Did a couple rides this weekend. Took the KTM up Mt. Lemmon Saturday. It's interesting. Even though it's basically a dirt bike, with dual sport tires on it, it handles quite well on the road and in the curves. It has quick steering and is light. In fact, it's awkward to get off of it and then to go ride the Ulysses, which feels heavy and lumbering in comparison. I took the pavement up from Tucson and rode down the back side, in the dirt, to Oracle. It's about 30 miles or so of dirt. I saw some hunters on ATVs. This guy was at the top of this crazy steep hill. He was coming down on his quad. I figured I needed more practice before I'd attempt going up there. It was a pretty good day. Total of about 125 miles, including 30 or so on dirt. Sunday, I met up with the guy who is the previous owner of my KTM. He has a thing for the bike being black. So, he took the new white plastics off the 2014 when he bought it and put them on the 2013 that he traded in, and which I now have. We rode out to the east of Tucson, where Tanque Verde turns into Redington Road. At about mile marker 3, it turns into dirt. We rode to MM 22 or so, through all kinds of stuff: gravel, sand, washboards, big rocks, etc. Eventually we got to this small peak with a great overlook. I thought for sure we'd get wet, but we didn't. This is the road to the little peak: This is Dave coming down that road back to the main road: In all, it was a very fun two days of riding. I'm kind of sore now since I have not done really any dirt riding in forever. Good times! PS: Isn't tomorrow the first Monday? What's the plan? Or is there a plan? |

Cool ride CJ. I got in some gnarly nasty rutted single track on sat and Sunday. I need to find a way to make my phone more accessible for photos. I'm going to miss the meeting today. We have a home inspection on our potential new place in north Scottsdale at 430. Not likely I'll be able to make it back down to chandler after. If by chance it works out just right I'll stop by. |

CJ, You need to get a set of racks like that guy has on his KTM. Ride, and ride some more, the soreness is a good thing. You going to ride the San Juans with us next summer? |

Doesn't look like I'll be going to the meetup tonight. Stuck here at work still and it's a two hour drive, so... Bart: those racks are the wolfman racks. They don't make them anymore. Wolfman stopped making racks and now just makes bags. I looked and found some happy trails racks that are reasonable, and also Touratech makes some that are inexpensive, believe it or not. As for the San Juans, I gotta go with yes. I'd love to do it. In the meantime, I just need to get gear, get practice, and get better at this. We were on totally easy stuff, really. It's a road. A guy going the other way was in a f*cking Toyota Celica. It's a rutted, rocky road and it probably tore the shit out of that car, but you know... That bit with the small mountain where I took his picture coming down... that bit was tougher. All rocks, it's dual-track, but obvious nobody has been up it in a long time. I'd like to get more comfortable in the tough stuff. I think what I might do is get ahold of the original type plastic for this bike, which is supposed to be kind of cheap, and take the tour tanks off for a while. I don't want to damage them and don't necessarily need their range until I take a trip. That way, I'll be able to tear ass around the local area and not be too worried about ruining the expensive add-on bits. |

Well... I guess it's a good thing I didn't leave to go to Chandler today! Sadly, I'll be working Saturday, so doesn't look like I'll be able to go to that event. I was thinking about joining that group, though. |

I thought it was o.k. nothing special aside from seeing the slingshot and the live Wire bike. I would like to take a ride on the Livewire and a ride in the slingshot. I didn't do any test rides. I do like seeing the bikes though. I kind of Like a couple of the new Indians although I have seen them before. I may go test ride one to see and feel how the ride. I missed the Livewire experience Saturday at Arrowhead Harley. I aim to ride that electric bike when I get a chance too. |

I agree with the nothing special. I went to the show in Long Beach back in 2006, and THAT was a show. It was probably four times as big as this one. It was nice to see all the new models. There were actually a lot of brands: Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Harley, BMW, Ducati, Victory. There were some Indians, but I couldn't tell if that was because of Indian being there or because of Eagle Rider. Eagle Rider had a big booth and I guess they were selling tours on their new "monthly payment" program. I'm not sure how that's going to go over. There were a number of vendors so you could try on a lot of helmets and jackets and stuff. Got some catalogs and brochures. Probably the two best things I saw were the Moto-Skivies and the Belstaff Jackets. I can't afford them, but they were neat. The band was alright, too. Turns out they're all teenagers. They played pretty good. Also saw a new chinese adv bike. $3500 brand new. 250cc, 28hp, 325lbs, 31" seat height, comes with bags and crash bars. 70mpg. Would be worth it just to commute on that thing. |

Here's some photos I took: The show: Here's a ZX-10R. My son Anthony has been making noise about wanting one of these. He's 21, so of course, he's 10ft tall and bullet-proof. I think it's a bit much for a 21-year old guy. They had a small area of vintage bikes. Here's a CB750 that's pretty sweet. My father used to have one like this when I was a kid. 1928 Indian Scout Norton Commando 750 Cool custom Honda Cool CB1100R race bike GPz1100 CBX Chinese ADV bike. $3500 bucks. Triumph Tiger 800 rally bike Cool Gary Nixon replica 675 race bike Another cool race replica Thruxton This is Don Emde's Super Tenere used to trace Cannon Ball Baker's trail from his 1922 record setting cross country trip. San Diego to NYC in 11.5 days. Previous record was 20 days. The new Yamaha R3 Supersport winning bike (I forget the name of the guy who wears the #1 plate) Somebody call me a doctor Josh Hayes Graves Yamaha R1 This S1000RR set a new speed record at Bonneville like two weeks ago. A woman rode it to 217.5mph. Cool old knucklehead by the entrance This Gold Wing was in the Honda booth. 1940's Vincent HRD Now you've attended the show, too! |

I liked this one. I didn't take many pictures because I took a bunch last year of the vintage bikes and they had the same ones again. I am a fan of the Shovelhead. The $ 22.000 Indian Getting a ride ? Soon little man.. |

good photos. I was a little disappointed in the show. Mostly just dealer bikes. they should have given more space to vintage bikes, cafe Racers, etc. they had space around the edges. People love looking at a lot of motorcycles, not just new. I was used to the northern Cal show, more buildings, more space devoted to vintage japanese, vintage european, etc. the slot car track was neat by progressive. the hd electric bike was nice. sideways view, you could put an inline twin, or triple there, front to back in line, not crosswise..... |
