Dude, there's no snow. Thus: it's riding season. Let's ride! BTW: I'm going to the SW Buell Rally in Taos, NM August 22-24. I left the Uly in Albuquerque last month, so I'll be driving the truck up there and then bringing the Uly back after. Then I'll have TWO bikes here. If anyone wants to go, let me know. We were talking routes the other day and I pitched a few really nice day rides for Saturday. Here is what I proposed, just in case anyone is interested and likes to actually ride: Some Taos day ride options: Option 1 (short ride): Enchanted Circle: North out of Taos on NM 522 to Questa. Turn right on NM 38 through Red River to Eagle Nest. Right on US 64 past Angel Fire to Taos. 88 miles or so. Option 2 (medium ride): Enchanted Circle Plus: North out of Taos on NM 522 to Questa. Turn right on NM 38 through Red River to Eagle Nest. Right on US 64 to Angel Fire. Left on NM 434 to Mora. Right on NM 518 toward Taos. Right on NM 68 back to Taos. 151 miles or so. Option 3 (long ride): West out of Taos on US 64 through Tres Piedras to Tierra Amarilla. Left on US 84 to Abiquiu. Left on NM 554 through El Rito to US 285. Left on US 285 to Tres Piedras. Right on US 64 back to Taos. 220 miles or so. Option 4: The Chick Hancock/Jack Dempsey Ride: North out of Taos on NM 522 through Questa. Enter Colorado on CO 159 to San Luis. Left on CO 142 to Manassa. Left on US 285 to Antonito. Right on CO 17. Enter New Mexico on NM 17 to Chama. Left on US 64/84 to Tierra Amarilla. Left on US 64 to Taos. 254 miles or so. Option 5: Low Road / High Road: South out of Taos on NM 68 to Espanola. Left on US 84/285 toward Pojuaque. Left on NM 503 toward Nambe. Left on County Road 98 to Chimayo. Right on NM 76 to Penasco. Right on NM 75 through Penasco, toward Taos. Left on NM 518 toward Taos. Right on NM 68 back to hotel. 111 miles or so. Option 6: The mini-Iron Butt: South out of Taos on NM 68 to Espanola. Right on US 84/285 and quick left on NM 30. Right on NM 502. Left on NM 4 through White Rock, Jemez Springs, to San Ysidro. Right on US 550 to Cuba. Right on NM 96 to Abiquiu. Left on US 84 to Tierra Amarilla. Right on US 64 to Taos. 338 miles or so. Option 7: Modified mini-Iron Butt: (reverse high road) South out of Taos on NM 68. Left on NM 518. Right on NM 75 to Penasco. Left on NM 76 to Chimayo. Left on County Road 98. Right on NM 503 through Nambe. Left on US 84 and quick right on NM 502. Left on NM 4 through White Rock, Jemez Springs, to San Ysidro. Right on US 550 to Cuba. Right on NM 96 to Abiquiu. Left on US 84 to Tierra Amarilla. Right on US 64 to Taos. 345 miles or so. I'd happily haul someone up with their bike in the truck, but you'd have to ride back. It's actually not bad at all. (Of course, I've done an Iron Butt and a 15K mile trip, so going 500 in a day is no biggie to me.) Let me know. I'm sure you guys would really enjoy the roads up there. C.J. I have no intention of riding my Buell that far. Not ashamed to say it either at 50 years old with two hip transplants I could give two shits what anyone thinks. :-) I would ride my FLH that far and have done so many times but I am bringing my wife and Grandson along . So until I finish my sidecar bike restoration we will trailer the Buell . If there is anyone who wants to go and needs bike transport I can do that too just need more bike clamps for my trailer.
