How does one top the annual SPLASH ride? Well... it can't be done. We've just got to look ahead to the annual Labor Day Border Raid weekend! Here's the dates and some basic information so far... Saturday, September 4, 2004 meet in Vancouver, BC and ride to Whistler, BC. Meet & greet with riders Saturday night. Sunday morning: RIDE DAY. Riding from Whistler to Lillooet toward Cache Creek. Lunch at Horsting Farm for fresh soup & sandwiches. Head south toward Sunday night's destination, still to be determined. Could be Penticton, Oliver or Osoyoos. If you're into the ride, give us your input too! Ride on, LO |

Well I am going to try to make it for sure. I have never been to canada before so each place is just as good as the next. What, if anything, do I need to get into canada? is there a way to find out if you will be denied before you drive all the way up there? I mean for like speeding tickets or anything like that? Not that I have any, but i have heard of people not being allowed if for all sorts of reasons. Can someone post that is american and goes into canada a bit? Anyways cant wait to get up there and check out the roads, see everyone again ect ect

Brandon, you will need either passport or birth certificate, a drivers license is no longer enuf to cross the border. Other than that, and a Canadian dictionary, nothing special needed. |

Brandon, you should be able to get up here with a birth certificate and your driver's license. Just remember to pull up and shut off the engine, remove sunglasses (and helmet if necessary). Also, safety in numbers. If you can meet up with others and go through border together they don't usually hassle you. Oh yeah don't forget the obvious; no guns and no felons. Looking forward to seeing you and Tracie again! Shotgun I've got your name on the list of most likely to attend. Will be looking into hotel accomodations when I return from the lake during second week of August. Need input for Sunday's destination, got to nail something down so we can look for accomodations. Ride on, LO |

Mike and I won't be able to make it this year, Cody is racing that weekend and it is a national race. Besides, I am still without wheels. Damn it sucks, the weather has been so nice too. It is my own fault, I am looking forward to be able to move forward though - damn insurance companies. Still no answer or should I say reasonable settlement. Brandon - you will absolutely love the ride, it is amazing and if Tracie goes she will love the scenery. I love everything about it. Kimberlie |

Yeah that's a bummer Kimberlie. We didn't get much time together this year either. I'm really glad you're doing better though! I know it sucks, it's never easy to be without wheels during the riding season; bin there dun that. Hopefully it won't be too long. Do you keep receipts from the aftermarket items you buy for the bikes? That's what helped me settle quicker when my bike was stolen... we keep everything! If the insurance company does their job, they should be able to figure out the cost of things, it's all research. Damn insurance company... wish they could just insure that NOTHING will go wrong. Now THAT would be good service! Take care Kimberlie! LO |

Border Raid lodging update! Whistler I spoke with the good people at the 'Newly Renovated' Blackcomb Lodge. We've stayed there before and the central location combined with group rates makes this a pretty good hotel. Blackcomb Lodge (located in the central village) 4230 Gateway Drive Whistler Reservations: 1-888-621-1177 or 1-604-932-4155 You must quote “BORDER RAID” when making your reservations to get these rates! Studio Suites, King-Twin split (2 twin beds that can be combined to make a King) + pull out couch & kitchenette. $99.00/night. Studio + Loft Suites, King-Twin split (2 twin beds that can be combined to make a King) + pull out couch and two Twins in loft, with kitchenette. $139.00/night. Penticton It was suggested that we stay at the Penticton Lakeside Resort & Casino in Penticton on the Sunday night. The Penticton Lakeside Resort & Casino is right in the heart of Penticton, and offers one of the areas finest locations. Easy walking to excellent restaurants, pubs and leisure strolls on the lakeshore. Penticton Lakeside Resort & Casino 21 Lakeshore Drive Penticton, B.C. www.pentictonlakesideresort.com Reservations: 1-800-663-9400 or 1-250-493-8221 You must quote “BORDER RAID” when making your reservations to get these rates! Standard room with 2 Queen size beds Parkside $129.00/night Lakeside $139.00/night Parking is available at a rate of $5.00/day per parking spot. There is a new Border Raid route that I will post ASAP. This route will offer a better lunch stop than in previous years as well as a few new roads to discover. The total riding time and distance from Whistler to Penticton should be approx. an hour less than last year. Time measured without mechanical and medical delays. So the actual will be more like 2-3 hours shorter than last year. Stuart is hoping that we are all planning to meet at Deeley’s House of Buell on Saturday afternoon. He has generously offered to provide lunch for all attendees at Deeley’s House of Buell prior to our ride to Whistler. Stuart needs to know if this is the wish of Border Raid participants, so that he can cater the lunch. Please advise. Route details to follow. Cheers FunJimmy |

Unless some miracle happens we are going to have to miss the raid this year. We will have it in the cards for sure next year though. Shotgun, Thanks again so much for all of your help the other day. Steve took me to harley and we also took some parts off the bike, but it is sounding like the motor needs some attention. I think the exact words of the mechanic was Piston Slap...I dont know though, I guess the heads and stuff have to come off first to check. I look at it like, if Im going to spend 1,000-1,500 for a regular rebuild I should spend 2,000-2,200 for a NRHS setup..So who knows...soon as I finally get paid from my last job and pay shogun for the blast........ |

S1Hooligan, I re-jetted the Blast yesterday and took her for a ride. She'll do a century easy with me on it, I'll bet two light-weights like you and Tracie could keep up 2-up just fine. That is if Tracie will even let you ride it. I know, I know, waiting for the money man. It sure would be nice to get an idea of exactly what you're looking at on the S1. Did your step-dad have a chance to listen to it? I know you 2 would love Border Raid. You could always drive up, have lunch at Deeley's and enjoy Whistler Saturday with all of us. |

In case anyone is keeping count, I would like to confirm that Craig, Jim and myself will be joining the raid. My cousin Scott is going to join us for the ride to Whistler as well, but he has plans to get some work done, and will be heading south instead of north on Sunday morning. Craig is going to see if a friend of his will join us as well. |

"But first, my route into Vancouver would delight me with a road I would later rate as one of the great motorcycle roads in the world. Highway 99 began among the dry hills of pine and sage near Marble Canyon, then after Lillooet it went snaking through the deep forest, up and down past fast rivers and aquamarine mountain lakes. The sky remained bright, the air cool and delicious, and the sinuous road coming toward me was so challenging and rewarding that i was tempted into the adrenaline zone. Turn by turn my pace increased until I was riding with a complete focus spiced by the ever-present danger and occasional thrill of fear, racing against physics and my own sense of caution in a sublime rhythm of shifting, braking, leaning deep into tight corners, then accelerating out again and again. I felt a charge of excitement I hadn't known for many months, and found myself whooping out loud with the sheer existential thrill." –- Neil Peart, “Ghost Rider - Travels On The Healing Road” y’all have a safe, dry, warm Border Raid this weekend, and fling a pair of panties on the antlers for me. ride to lean, Ferris Bueller |

Ok, Portland crowd. Instead of my usual ride up to Port Angeles Friday, cross over to Victoria, spend the nite in Naniamo, be at Deeley's Saturday, I'm planning on riding 101 Friday to Port Townsend, spend the nite then take the ferry to Whitby Island Sat morning and runnig I=5 up to Deeleys on Saturday. Anybody want to join me? 101 is quiet, a good road, interesting and fun. |
