Nightmare1, nope - mine is all black. I was doing roof repair today so the bike stayed parked. This windy winter/spring has wreaked havoc on my roof and it needed some more help again today. I still have yet to see another buell on the road since I got my bike. At least when I am looking around at the other bikes. Cheers all! |

Welcome aboard Jeff, glad to have another Utah Buell guy with us. Enjoy the ride and we'll catch you on the road somewhere. Mike, sorry you could not make it. It was a great day for the weather and for EBR. Kerri, did you see EBR's pit area? They have really stepped up to first class with Hero's backing. |

Almost forgot; it was nice visiting with Robert(Saxon59)and his son on Monday at MMP by EBR's pit. We had a nice talk but were parked at opposite ends of the track so did not watch the racing together. Looking forward to riding with him sometime again. Hope we can all ride some this year and I'll be "in the wind" almost every Sunday, somewhere, weather permitting for this old GoodWeatherBiker. |

Bob, no, I didn't. I wasn't out there but a couple hours Sun and Mon. Geoff and Danny sure did great during their race! Get some traction control on that RS and they'll be on the podium consistently! How 'bout them Beemers! Don't think I'll be doing many group rides this summer...I'm in school full time and working on some weekends. Gotta pay the bills! Mike, I sent you an email about your buddy and the classes. OH! I also asked about transfering my credit for you to do an ART and they said no problem...they just need a date and a name. Lemme know! Lrholy06,if you're in the Provo/Orem area, you should head south to Spanish Fork(hiway 6)then take the turn off at Thistle (hiway 89) to Fairview and up the canyon. From there you can go to Huntington and back toward Price,or at the top of the mountain you can turn on 264 and head to Scofield and back to hiway 6.My wife and I rode to Huntington 2 weeks ago then to Carbonville to a place called Groggs for some good food then back on 6 and home. This is a great ride with great scenery and fun roads. If you want to make it a little longer(and Funner) ride ,you can take Indian Canyon to Duchesne then to SR 87 to SR 35 to Hanna and over Wolf Creek Pass. Long day,but a great ride!!! |

Hey fellas, I wanted to present a question that some of you long time Buell owners may have an answer to. Is there a mechanic local to Utah (wasatch front) who is good at working on Buells that is unaffiliated with a Harley shop? I ask only because should I ever get over my head, or not want to do a particularly difficult job, if there is someone I could turn too and trust both with my bike and the fee the repair would cost? I know owning a Buell requires us to be willing to get down and dirty with our bikes, which I am more than willing to do, but some things just scare me not having ever been into any motorcycle engine more than beyond the cylinder head. Thanks, Jeff |

(you all knew I was gonna pipe up here! ) Jeff, there's a shop called Trackstar up here in West Haven. I'd go there. Kelly, the owner/mechanic is very knowledgeable about all things motorsports. They're having a bike night this coming Saturday, if you want to swing by and check it out...starts at 3:00pm and goes until whenever. He's very honest and won't BS you about anything. |

Kerri, duly noted, and thank you! I will have to try and make it to bike night. My son has some baseball games in midvale late afternoon on Saturday - if I get home early enough I will try to stop by. |

Jeff, I agree with Kerri. Trackstar would be a good place to go. A good mechanic is a good mechanic no matter what they work on be it aircraft, cars or bikes, even machinery and I think Kelly is fair. With that said, there are enough of us Buell owners here to help with many things you could do yourself with our help. All Buells are fairly easy to work on especially the older tubers and XB's. Just post up here and ask. And don't forget to use the "knowledge vault" here on BadWeb, its got a treasury of info. (Message edited by Bob_thompson on June 22, 2012) |

Bob, thanks for the words. I am fairly smart, at least I tell myself that, and have a high *aptitude for mechanical things. However, that aptitude comes with an asterisk next to it. First time for everything with me can be subject to error, as it is with most people. I just try and limit my mistake costs because I am a cheapskate! if only I had crappy "demo" gear to work on and get that first time under my belt. After that I become quite competent. I will use and have used the knowledge vault here and it already has been very valuable. Ideas I found there for alternatives to tools for redoing my fork seals was awesome and worked out great! (except the snapping of my damper rod via a slip of my hand) |

SCJ - Welcome to the madness!! If you don't have them already, grab the service manuals. Absent a major catastrophe, most of the service work is pretty straightforward with relatively few tools(once you work out how to drop/rotate the motor quickly). I got an extra couple of damper tubes if you can't find one.

Stirz007 - I do have the manual for my bike and it has been useful. I still need to get a parts manual, but for the interim I can get by just asking for the part number on the forum. My question about mechanics is more for jobs that require splitting cases, etc. other than that I hope to do it all, maybe even that type of job if it ever comes to it. I did find the rod I needed for a good price from surdyke.com. Thank you for the offer! Mine will be here Monday, unfortunately it wasn't fast enough for my trip to the Black Hills of South Dakota this past week. I had to view the area through my truck window and that sucked! Should I ever return on a bike though I know now where to go on the bike to maximize my time and pleasure. |

Just FWIW and your consideration: had a nice ride on Sunday but made a few observations as follows. As this very hot summer heat has taken effect I noticed people appear to have their heads up their butts so be very aware and careful. The tar snakes are everywhere and there is some buckling of the road surface in spots where you least expect them. Some roads appear to be have very good grip but as the day wears on the oil starts oozing out making them pretty slippery especially the snakes. The best grip seems to be on the old fashion wet tar over stone which when seasoned is great grip but highly abrasive. Lets all enjoy some absolutely great riding weather and stay focused and safe. Catch you "in the wind" somewhere. Bob |

"Some roads appear to be have very good grip but as the day wears on the oil starts oozing out making them pretty slippery especially the snakes." - A very interesting observation, and thank you for it Bob! Hope everyone is well. Chuck sold his Uly, now Jeff has his up for sale, what's making these so hard to own? Okay, Chuck's was an electrical mess it seems, i wonder if the new owner has got it working properly yet? There's some gnarly, wide tar snakes on the east end of the East Canyon ride, not far from the exit of the canyon as you get nearer the resort. They are right in the middle of the lane, fortunately in a straight section there. Gave me a hell of a head-shake briefly as I rolled over one and then the other. Wow, that was a brief but exciting little moment, there was also a lot of gravel in a number of the really good turns, slowing my ride down significantly. Has anyone seen or talked to Brandon this year? Wonder what's got his so quiet... haven't seen his bikes on ksl dot com for sale yet anyway. |

Yes Mike, the tar snakes are a real troublesome problem in the exceptionally warm weather. Be careful all. Brandon and I, with two other people road together a while back to East Canyon resort but did not go over to Little Dell. I had a scary moment also when I accelerated pretty quickly going toward the resort to about 90 mph and a large bird, probably a crow or magpie flew up from the shoulder and we met. No way to avoid him so I just broke fairly quickly with a stoppie and a real good tank slapper but kept control and settled back to go on to the resort. No damage at all and the guys behind me said the bird disintegrated. It must have been hit by the front wheel only and got chewed up. I have a newly found respect for the critters out there in our beautiful canyons. Be careful! Brandon also has been boating quite a bit and I don't blame him a bit with this weather. "now Jeff has his up for sale" I assume this was in reference to me. I did have my bike on KSL for a few days...was thinking a newer year was more up my alley with a higher rev limit, maybe fewer bugs, etc - I had a few bites and even one guy wanted to buy. But the idea of paying taxes on two bikes in a single calendar year kept me on my 06, not to mention finding an 08 or newer that I liked and was near was more than I wanted to deal with right now. Who knows what spring will bring...I do rather enjoy the heck out of the bike, just some of the features of the 08+ bikes are intriguing to me is all. I took it to Boise yesterday (High Desert HD) to have some recalls addressed that were not done yet. (I know - how could an 06 still have open recalls right? previous original owner either didn't know or care about them I guess)It was a painful day on my tailbone as I did the out and back all in a day. It was even more painful to watch my gas mileage drop into the low 30s when that thing was at freeway speeds for that distance - but 90+mph over 300 miles in the heat of July - what can I expect right? No fears all - the Buell is still with me! |

Bob, that sounds like an exciting moment or two for you, one of those pull over and check your heart rate, and pants sort of moments! I had to duck under a starling last time I rode up there with a friend, he got a good laugh out of it, thing was headed straight for my head. Glad you are still with us Jeff. One of these days maybe we can all do a ride or something. A meet up for burgers or pizza in the evening would even be cool since I seldom can make the Sunday rides everyone tends to favor. I know what you mean about the newer Uly's. I was scrutinizing the 08+ years closely (for the extra steering clearance)before I found a great deal on my Super TT. Boise is a long freakin' ride, I cannot imagine doing the whole there and back in a day... boring! 90+ makes sense for that sort of "adventure". I got some bad gas the other day, gonna siphon it out into the wife's car and get a few gallons of ethanol free stuff at the texaco by the U, see if that makes my XB run right again, this bike sure is sensitive to the fuel I put in it. The M2 is down, clutch hub is notched up, leading to the poor engagement problems I have been having for a few years. I'm gonna price out the aftermarket parts at SLHD tomorrow, might get lucky and come in under a hundred bucks, maybe! Hope everyone is well |

Hello all, Name's Roderick (Rod). Am way out here in EM City Center. Mine's a '98 S1. Current color is red but I hope to have it all gloss black over the winter. Old Buell was an X1 until it got stolen and eventually wrecked when the thief tried to run away from 'The Man'. Was living in an apartment then but now finally (recently) with a house and ten yrs passed, saved enough to pick up this S1. Basically, I was too scared to go thru another loss. Geez...That sounded like an echo from my divorce. The reason I got the S1 was because of Buell went out of business. Not sure if I could get quality service done on the newer designs. Figured that other than engine and transmission work that is basically a Sportster that any H/D shop can handle, I can do the rest. Am more of an electrical guy myself thanks to my 10 yrs USAF. Got out back in '92. Three reasons why I ride a Buell: 1) Am short, only 5'6. I like that low seat height. 2) The Buells, particularly the Lightning, just simply look too different. 3) Do not like bodywork. Ten yrs passed and my riding skills have deteriorated badly, so am making up excuses to ride whenever I could. Actually, it is more like 11 yrs passed. I work at IM Flash Tech (IMFT) out in Lehi. So if anyone have an iWhatever, we make those NAND memory for them Apples. I work the night shift and the back end of the week. That means Sun-Tue is my weekend. Hope to see the other UT Buellers someday. |

Welcome aboard Rod. Always glad to have another Buell enthusiast with us. We started this board up again as a Buell support group after there was some loss of interest years ago, to help with the loss of any HD dealers that were willing or able to work on our Buells. We have a pretty good variety of models represented here from the tubers to the latest 1125's. We are scattered all over the Wasatch front so its sometimes hard to get a group ride going but are always willing and ready to help our fellow Buellers with any problems or questions. So feel free to shout out if we can help in any way. We have some pretty knowledgable people here that are always willing to help and some good mechanics also. For everyone else, maybe we should think about a nice get together this fall when the weather moderates some for a little eating and a nice ride. Think about it and let me know with where, when and how your schedules are. I'll be gone until mid-Sept. Stay safe, ride safe and enjoy. Bob |

Rod, if you don't mind my saying so, it sounds like an MSF Experienced Riders Course might be a good idea for you. You use your own bike and it cost less than $100 ($70, I think). UT Rider Education has lots of times available for the ERCs. You can either find them on the web (www.utahridered.com) or you can give them a call at 801-394-6564. Going over some of the basics might knock the cobwebs off without some car doing it for you! (If this sounds like an ad, it is! I'm one of the instructors!) I miss riding with y'all! Life's been crazy hectic...I just hope the summer doesn't pass me by without getting one or two nice local rides in! |

Not sure how many of you ride south to Arizona, we have a small rally every year we call the SpringFast event. Going into it's 9th year now. Would love to see some of you Utah folks down here to enjoy some of Arizonas finest curves. HWY 191 from Alpine, AZ down to Morenci, AZ. Makes the Dragon look like a puppy tail The dates for the 9th annual SpringFast in Alpine, AZ are: MAY 17, 18, and 19, 2013. You can make reservations through the Tal Wi Wi lodge, in Alpine, AZ at: 928-339-4319. Mention that you are with the SpringFast group. Any questions you can email me at: Buelligan63@gmail.com Hope to see you there! |

Bart, did some research after your post and boy does that road look nice! I'll be putting that on my "to do list" hopefully for next year. Looks like about 120 miles of great snakey road. You did not exaggerate one bit. I did a few "street views" on Google earth and the road bed looks great also through some pretty scenic country. Kind of out of the way too. Where do you come in from and do you ride in or trailer? Tal Wi Wi lodge looks real nice with a place to eat or drink right there. How hot is the weather there around the time planned for next year? Might not be too bad with some elevation along the way like it is here. All in all it looks great! And thanks much for checking in. Bob |

Bob, I ride in from Albuquerque, NM. Often, the Colorado riders will ride down and overnite at my house, and then ride out with me. I ride in through Quemado, Reserve, Luna, NM. Then right into Alpine on 180. I try to stay on the curvy roads as much as possible. The AZ riders come up through Payson, Showlow, Springerville, or through Globe on US 60. The Tal Wi Wi has space for trailers if the need arises. There is lots of space there, it is a nice facility and they are very accomodating to motorcyclists. HWY 191 IS a great road that you will never forget. I ride it about 4 times a year. There is a restaurant on site, as well as a bar attached to the lodge. 3 or 4 restaurant/cafe's in Alpine, as well as a gas station/general store, and a town bar. With the elevation, being Springtime, the day temps are in the 70 to 80's. The evenings will cool off nicely, and sometimes, in the morning, you will see frost on the seat of your bike. Heat is not really a problem as much as the early morning chill. We usually roll after breakfast around 9AM, and it's in the 50's by then and getting more comfortable with every mile. Bart |

Hey does anyone know where I can buy a #32 drill bit locally? I need one to set up the shifter pawl gap properly on my M2. Lowes doesn't carry them, Grainger Supply lists them but you have to have a business account to buy from them. Thanks |
