Torqer..I saw Prince when he was here a few months ago. I agree..best show I have seen and I not really a Prince fan per say.

I did a test on the plastic of the belt guard this morning. The resin that I use for the carbon WILL NOT stick to the plastic. I guess there is some petro in it. So all the pieces that I want to do have to be custom replacements not cover overs.

Torqer..my idea with the air ram of covering it instead of fabbing a new piece is nill! Shiznit!

Guess I will have to see how good I am copying that crazy contoured piece.

I doubt I'll be able to get away.
The ridge run is during the week and I don't have anyone to care for my daughter. If I had family here that might be a different story but I don't think it's cool to ask one of her friends to let her stay on school nights.

That and the whole bike thing.
There is NO way I am taking the bike I have up there and I don't know if I would have enough experience on a 'new' bike to feel comfortable going.

So unless there is a cosmic shift in the universe I don't think I'll be going.

Wait'll you see the roads up there!
B_S, how about making a two piece mold, then after the parts are made, glue them together. May not look exactly like the scoop, but maybe better looking.

That's an idea Glitch...you could use some sort of epoxy or actually some sort of bracket from the inside where no one would see but you. I will attempt the belt guard some time this week or next. The problem is the deep wells that the screw hole are. I figure you cannot change the depth without the guard rubbing on the belt. That would spell trouble.

Since the carbon fiber won't stretch, how would you over come the depth of pull so deep and narrow?
Could you have a hole in the fiber at the hole and have no fiber being pulled down, only the resin?
Seems like if you tried to pull that down that steep and narrow that the fiber would deform/wrinckle....not look so good.
Hm, something to ponder....

#2 bingo..That is my plan to use just resin and cut the fiber at the hole. Glitch...your smarter than you look!!

The problem is actually getting the inner bag to get in the hole.

Who's heading to Cycle Gear tonight???
Michael/ Shred will be down there about 6pm with some friends.

I am probably going to make it for a bit if I can get my headlight and clutch adjusted. Apparently after Sunday's little adventure my clutch is now ten times tighter than it was previously. I was wondering why my forearm felt strained but I just figured it was par for the course from Sunday.
Then when I left my friends house last night after dark I realized my headlight in now aimed 5 feet in front of my bike. Not cool!!!
So I have some adjustments to make to be able to go tonight but I think I can pull it off with a little help.

Anyone else interested in going??
Glitch??

If you put the bag over something, shove in and out... in and out of the hole with the appropriate lube, you may get it to feel good... wait... I lost track.

Huh? What? Why? How?

torqer...mind in the gutter as usual

Actually...Glitch...heat dries it out witch makes it stiffer. Water makes it plyable with out breaking it. Its like a condom, you want it as thin as possible so it will conform to the shape but not so thin that it will break. If it breaks then you will have a bunch of carbon fiber babies runnin' around.

I am out for tonight. My grandfather is in the hospital.

I'm not sure about the why... but, in the '05 P&A catalog, the new d208s fit all XBs except the XBSX. and the Syncs fit only the XBSX. I'll scan and post Wednesday. The one who should be most concerned is Shred... 'cause he just bought the wheels!}

Honestly, I think it's marketing hub-bub.
From the Buell web site Dark wheels enhance the attitude and appeal of your Buell.
Fits '03-later XB models. Stock on '05 XB9SX models.

B_S: Man I know what you're going through, Ann's Grand Dad ain't been doin' too well either, that's why I've not been able to just take off like I'm so used to.
Our thoughts are with him and yours.

Edit: They just want to make sure that everyone doesn't just drop Dunlop and run to the Perellis is my guess.

You ma be right. If you look at the tires on the wheels side-by-side you can see a little difference. The hub and axle specs can be the same and rim different.Fits '03-later XB models

Well, sorry to say that the front belt guard was a failure!

Glitch...the undercuts and ridges were too severe and caused the resin to pool up and bubble from the excessive heat of cure. I will however attempt it again by altering the shape of the guard. I will remold the piece by taking out the curves. It will not look exactly like the factory part but that is why they call it a custom...right?

Anyway, back to the drawing board. I have to wait until I order more carbon...I used it up.

undercuts and ridges
I was afraid of that, when I looked at it last night.
Buell doesn't even sell one for our bikes.
All they have is the upper one for the '04s and up.

Might I suggest a nice front fender, or flyscreen perhaps?
I have to wait until I order more carbon.

I don't think I could do a fender with my set up. It would be too large for my PVA bags to fit over. THe fly screen and chin faring is about my limit on size. That is why I am sticking to the smaller plastic bits as accents and not the body work. I promise I will get to the fly screen eventually. I want to work out the bugs on this belt guard first. I am not making a fly screen for me but yours could be the trial run. Doesn't seem hard at all.

The problem for me is that the ones I am fabricating is finished differently that the ones you can buy. Those have a clearcoat finish that would be an extra step if I did that. I like the raw carbon look. So, if I buy a ram air scoop or belt guard it will not match. Those little details would drive me nuts.

I am somewhat of a perfectionist w/a health dose of OCD.

Torqer..I just got a crazy idea. I am going to try something at work today...if it works I believe I can make some RED transparent bodywork!

Yes..I said transparent. I have some plastic here and some red transfer paper that cam give a clear look (I think). If it works I can then try some surlyn. THe transfer paper only comes in red, yellow and orange. No Black (smoke) Damnit!

I kinda slow here today..Time to play.

Torquer-
Shred talked to the people with Atlanta Freestyle last night and well, I'll let him tell you about it today when he picks up his wheels but you might want to check about getting that guy you saw at the dealership, was it Bubba somebody???
Also my friend Alex, the guy who sat in with us from GSB, he got some additional leads for us on stunt local riders. Hopefully you'll remember what he looks like and can approach him Thursday. He is going to try to get on here and PM either Michael or I with the info.

lookie, lookie.

It is really rough but with some practice I think I can pull it off. I used Durr-plex instead of surlyn. Same effect different plastic.

You could vacuum form plastic over fly screen mold.
