Not really the Alps, but as close as you can get to them in the southeastern US... WHAT? Buell meet (sleep/eat/ride/talk) WHERE? Little Switzerland, NC. It's located about on the Blue Ridge Parkway 50 miles north-east of Asheville, NC, and it's more-or-less equidistant from Charleston, SC (287 miles), Atlanta, GA (248 miles), and Raleigh, NC (234 miles). WHEN? July 27-29, 2012, Friday/Saturday/Sunday. Show up earlier if you want; stay later if you want. WHO? Any interested motorcyclist, but concentrating on fellow Badwebbers and especially SC Buell Riders, 3%'ers (GA), and C3'ers (NC) WHY? Little Switzerland sits on the Blue Ridge Parkway at the intersection with 226A and 226B, which are both awesome roads. There are plenty of good twisty roads off of the Parkway nearby. The current owners have restored it and are really nice people. The hotel has some really interesting history behind it. It has free breakfast, a nice restaurant, and a store with the best beer selection in ~200 miles. Room rates vary from about $70/night to $100/night depending on what time you want and what discounts you can get. Check the thread from last years meet (link below) for more photos. There are a few other hotels very nearby (from "mom & pop" motels up to fancy resorts) and several major chain hotels down the mountain in Marion (17 miles south) http://bear-den.com/index.html - Campground nearby on the Blue Ridge Parkway; has tent camping, "camp cabins", and full cabins. Looks like a neat event - I will be somewhere on the south atlantic coast at some point this summer (likely Myrtle Beach), and if the dates line up well I'll try to swing through. | ||

Charlie- alright now, think positively! Kristi- Hope to see you and Carlos there. Mark- that'd be awesome. The roads and scenery in the area are really great. After a few days in the traffic and heat of Myrtle Beach, you'll be ready for the NC mountains. It'd be great to see this thing eventually develop into another major yearly Buell meet. | ||

No_rice, if anybody'ed make the ride, it's you. Come on down/over! well if i make it, it will be via car and trailer. my trips down to your guys neck of the woods are always a bombing run there and back. straight through. i hate wasting days off GETTING to my vacation! i put on a fair amount of miles, but 16+ hours straight on the bike is not my idea of fun! especially twice within a couple days of each other lol. plus, if i make it, jenn will be coming down with her bike also. and she would be a very unhappy camper trying to make that ride in record time...  | ||

Hugh, From what Ive read , this is the place folks are meeting Friday night. Got the Ft. Wm Henry lot as the saturday AM point . "I plan on meeting up with Dave DRM1125r up state. We should be in lake George by 6pm and have a meet and greet at 8:30 at http://www.kingneptunespub.com/ We will have dinner there Sat night where the free raffle will go off. We will have 2 $25 gas cards to give away ( i used the home depot one) and cycle gear is to far for me to pick up the $25 card so BP gas cards will have to do. 1 Rally t-shirt and Advantage Cycle (puzzled) is gonna try to send some stuff if we can meet up before this thing goes off. you're welcome to head north and try! As a follow up, I will not be able to attend this event as I'm in training to be an MSF Coach that weekend. Bummer - I always like heading South when I can. | ||

i hit up barker and fats about it at one point, but no idea if they would make it. jenn and i had talked about coming down, but i dont think it will happen. i think my riding season will be coming to an end sometime mid next month unless im lucky. so... that would rule out the trip. | ||

Now that my bike has caused me to miss my trip to mexico, If I can get my bike sorted, Im definitely going to this as a nice shakedown for a future mexico attempt... Hugh, do you mind if I cross post this to the advrider upcoming events board? Or you prefer to keep it 'in the family'? |
