Char- I'm here now- the hotel owner says Rubberdown was here last weekend- sorry I missed him. I've ridden the "Diamondback" loop (226-226A) a couple of times and the "Devil's Staircase" (hwy 80) once. I'll probably do the "Murder Mountain" loop tomorrow (see the route on Skyline's website)- it's about 120 miles or so. That might be a good route for the group next Saturday. See y'all soon. |

Hey do any of you SC Buell Riders want a "sort-of-official SCBR" T-shirt? I still have some for $5 ea. I have three (3) XXLarge and eight (8) Large, and can bring to the gathering this Thursday for you to save $5 shipping costs. Just PM me please. Not bringing any unless requested. Has to do with very little extra room in the bags on the bike!! |

Update from Skyline Inn- day 3 for us here. Weather has been fairly cool at night (mid-upper 60's) with highs in the 80's during the day. It's either rained or threatened to rain every afternoon but it usually lasts only an hour or so. I try to get my riding in before lunch, then get another ride in late in the afternoon if I feel like it. For those of you that will be riding up in the afternoon- better pack your rain gear just in case. I did the "Murder Mountain Run" yesterday- it was awesome. It's about a 115 mile loop up into Tennessee, great roads, beautiful country, and not much traffic. It takes about 3-3.5 hours to do. They have copies of the route map at the hotel, but you might want to print your own before you come: http://www.skylinevillageinn.com/mmrun.pdf Oh yea, gas is about 30 cents a gallon higher than in SC. There's a super WalMart with a Murphy gas station only a couple of miles from the hotel which is convenient for gassing up before heading out in the morning. |

NC loves its fuel tax. We're headed to the beach Sat morning, so cannot make it, but I'm sure you will all have an absolute blast and make sure Twig stays out of trouble. That's a great area for riding!!! Prior |

Sorry you can't make it Prior- enjoy the beach. Another very minor heads up for those of you staying at the Skyline Inn: they've apparently dropped the free breakfast, but they serve coffee, juice, eggs, bacon & a big waffle for $6.50 here at the hotel. There's a Burger King near the Walmart a couple of miles away if you're on a budget. |

Bill- I don't have any firm plans. I usually head out between 9 and 10. Henry (Coldwind) should be here tomorrow evening. Not sure if we'll have anyone else on Thursday morning. |

Well, Buells in the Alps II officially commenced this morning. Coldwind arrived yesterday evening and Thrux181 rode up this morning on his Triumph. Thrux181 led us on a loop down the mountain to Marion, NC, around Lake James, up 181 to Linville, and then back to the hotel via the BRP. Rcontroler showed up while we were gone, so we now have 3 Buells parked under the bike shed behind the Skyline Inn. I expect we'll get another ride in today, and several tomorrow. |

Hey Bill- it was great to see you, sorry you couldn't make it out. I got your PM and will respond shortly. We got in some good rides yesterday- Rcontroler and Scbuellkat did the "Murder Mountain Run" in "reverse" and ran over to Mt. Mitchell on the Parkway. Twig and I ran the "Diamondback" loop early and then Twig, Coldwind + daughter, and I did the Murder Mountain Loop. The weather was near-perfect all day. Twig headed back home at about 7 AM today; I think the rest of the group is headed out shortly. I'm hanging around one more day so I hope to get a good long ride in today. |

I rolled into the home '20' at 12:30 pm. Beat the heat with some cloud cover near the end of the trip home. Thank you Mother Nature. Had a Super Time this year. Looking forward to the next one. Thanks to Hugh for leading the rides and keeping things together. Enjoy that extra riding time too! |

Glad you made it home OK, Don. I tried a couple of new roads this morning; I took 226 to 197 and followed that up to Erwin, TN. It followed the Clinchfield Railroad (now CSX) in several places up through the mountains and followed at least a couple of rivers. It had some awesome twisties but unfortunately a lot of gravel in the corners. The southern part of it in NC (south of where I got on it) is supposed to be a great road too with a ~3-4 mile gravel (unpaved) part in the middle where it crosses a mountain. The gravel section keeps a lot of traffic off the road which leaves it mostly clear for 2-wheelers. I came back via 19W (I haven't figured this 19W and 19E deal out yet, because they both run north and south ). It had some good twisties at the north end but after that it was mostly sweepers. It followed a couple of rivers and was a picturesque ride. Another good couple of short roads nearby that I explored are Crabtree Road which goes from the post office in downtown Little Switzerland north to 19E (about 15 miles?). You can also take Chestnut Grove Road (the road in the middle of Little Switzerland that goes under the Parkway) north a few miles and then turn left on McKinney Mine Road which goes back over to Crabtree Road. Both of those are great twisty roads. There are a couple of cool-looking old mines near the intersection of Crabtree and McKinney Mine that are open for "gem mining". There were these huge caverns blasted into the side of the mountain right off the road in 2 places. I guess we'll have to check them out on another visit. I just got back from making one last run around the "Diamondback" loop (226/226A). I had a good last run with little traffic. I'll post a few more pics later. |

Hugh, you must exercise extreme caution on Crabtree...there a couple of twin ginger females in that area that are nothing but trouble...30+ years running and they are aging quite well. DAMHIK and never mention it if my wife is in attendance. Nonetheless, fine riding indeed. G2 |

We just rolled in from the 5 hour drive from Skyline. Man, I hate to come back to the heat and flatness after 9 days in the mountains. I hope everybody else enjoyed the meet as much as I did. Greg- Damn! Sorry I didn't see that sight on Crabtree! A proper Badwebber would take a pic or two the next time he was out in that area to illustrate the sights to be seen. Finding little roads like Crabtree just makes me realize there are probably HUNDREDS of similar roads in the area that we never even see. When I went to Erwin on 197 on Sunday, there was a ~5 mile or so detour up 226 and then back over to 197. It was an awesome road through a very pretty area. |
