I dont have either heated grips or gloves, so I really dont know what I am talking about. But my Uly has nice hand guards the help to deflect the windflow over the hand, so that helps, too. My car is in the shop right now due to a catastrophic engine failure , so my only real mode of transportation is the Buell. my gear keeps me warm enough to get to and from work, but much more than 30 minutes and my finger tips start to get a bit chilly. I look like the Michelin man with my big ass pants and jacket on, but I don't freeze to death. ran across this the other day. Short distances, they will do the trick. The main thing is keeping your body "core" and neck warm. That is what is supplying blood to your extremities, and brain An electric vest with heated collar will do the trick for most applications. Freeze your brain or your core, and your reflexes slow down, and judgement goes bad. You make bad decisions without even realizing it. Ive done alot of riding in cold weather and have tried alot of different tricks. On my 300+ mile trips below 30 degrees, I use my heated vest with sleeves attached, heated pant liners, grip heaters, and depending on which bike I'm on, heated gloves. (some of my bikes don't have wind protection for my hands). However if you have the grip heaters it really makes it nice. Living in North East Nebraska items like the muffs are almost a standard item, and the best part they are only $25 to $35 for a set. They also work great in the rain to keep your hands dry.   Agfish18 Posted on Friday, December 09, 2011 - 02:03 pm:        Bart, I got some heated grips today... well not the actual grips, but the heating elements that go under the grips/ on the actual bar. They came with a switch that I am supposed to mount somewhere on the bike, but dont know where to do so...the instructions say to drill a hole somewhere in the plastics, do you have a switch for yours on your 1125? if so where did you mount it?   Bartimus Posted on Friday, December 09, 2011 - 04:59 pm:        I'm not a fan of those type of grip heaters because you waste some of the BTU's heating up the handlebar. The ones built into the grips are isolated from the bar so all the heat goes into the grip. Cycle gear had universal ones one sale for 39.99. You should have searched eBay for a set of Uly grips they bolt right on and plug right in. That's what I have on my 1125. That being said, you can come by and I will fabricate a bracket for your toggle switch. No problemo. We had a job fair at work today, I was one of 16 interviewers. We had about 850 people show up for 50 positions on the production floor. Don't people realize that appearance plays a big part in the interview process? I interviewed about 75 applicants, rejected 30, hired 8, and recommended about 35 for a second interview with an actual HR person. One guy, claimed to be a professor that used to teach at UNM, had three degrees, and written a book. (I rejected him because he tried to sell me the book during the interview) AND he thought he was godlike. wow! Another guy smelled bad, said he just wanted a job, and would take whatever we offered. He didn't even know what positions he was applying for, he just wanted a job. Felt sorry for him, but had to give him the boot also. They shut the security gate at noon, and we wrapped up around 1330 hrs. I could not wait to get home, gear up, and get out on one of the bikes! Took the Honda, and headed through the pass, and down 14 to the Ponderosa for lunch, and some coffee. Nice ride. traffic was light, and I pretty much had the road to myself. big grin. Sitting at home now, posting this from my phone, as I bubble away in the jacuzzi, sipping a beer. Nice end to a hectic day! OH, and my friend Kelly text me a picture of him, and the AZ Buellers out on a ride and said, "it is cold out today, should have took the Kawasaki with it's windshield and grip heaters" LMAO!!! Sorry, whining is not an employable skill in most fields. I ordered a set of Uly heated grips for the 1125. It'll be interesting to see how they do. My real goal is to keep my hands warmer on my way to work in the morning. People act like they don't really want to get a job. I think the unemployment people make them come out to interviews and job fairs. Then when they don't get it, they can still get their unemployment. I dont care what the job is, even if it is washing dishes somewhere or taking out the trash,it is the principal of the matter. That's FAIR.   1eyert Posted on Saturday, December 17, 2011 - 01:54 pm:        Okay, I need some advice from you fellow buellers, the shop I use recently replaced a leaking rear cylinder exhaust gasket, they did not torque the header bolts tight and they worked off, it happened at night as I was coming home from work. I called them and they picked up the bike, apologized and fixed it at no cost. When I picked it up there was a "noise" new to me, and I took it back to them a few days later. The tech said it sounded top end and to see if it got louder as I rode it. The next day as I rode home from work again the noise got noticeably louder and the vibrations got worse. I took it back to the shop and they now say it needs top/bottom end work. They recently moved locations and do not answer there phone, I had to personally go into the shop to get any information. So far they don't even know for sure what it needs as they haven't actually worked on the bike yet, this is all from listening to it run. I am not sure how much I can now trust them, also, how much should this cost me and how much are they responcible for? Any other shop in Tucson I should use instead? BTW it is Bikers Bay in Tucson. Perhaps find a dealer that can give you an assessment of it based upon this background? I'm still partial to Santa Fe HD even though some others are not. I have never been let down by their service department. If something has gone wrong, they've fixed it without issue. They have several guys there who ride Buells, so I think that helps us. It's a hike from Tucson, but could be worth it.   Bartimus Posted on Sunday, December 18, 2011 - 09:50 am:        CJ should know I would shoot him down on this. DO NOT TRAVEL ALL THE WAY HERE TO LET SANTA FE HD SCREW UP YOUR ENGINE! I lived in Tucson when I brought my S2 there at the urging of Murrae, saying, "we will take care of you, BRO". Stupid me. It took almost 3 years to get that engine right, everytime I brought it back they would screw something else up. Wrong gaskets, wrong cylinders, forgetting to clearance the heads for the valves. ( Murrae told me ALL big bores make that knocking sound). Really? I finally brought it up to Aaron at NRHS and HE fixed it right, and it's been problem free for 25,000 miles. They screwed up Mona's X1 both times they worked on it. And they installed Kim's forks wrong on her city cross. Art, I don't know any shops there in Tucson. Up in Phoenix, I used to take my S2 to a shop in Chandler. I know of a certified, Buell tech in Peoria that does work on the side. I can get the two of you together. I will find a way to get the bike to him if need be. I'm just bummed that I can't ride right now...anyone know where I can borrow/rent a buell for the time being? I have no idea who worked on his bike, but I've been incredibly happy with Scott's work on my 1125. I had an interesting Monday as the family and I went up to the mountains to go sledding for a little fun in the snow. The Capulin Sled area was closed when we first arrived, so we had to look for another place to do it. Just ahead at about the 10K trail head, we noticed that there were a lot of people sledding, so we too decided to join in. Everything was fine until my first and only run of the day. As I started to go down the hill on my sled, I was heading directly for a tree, but couldnt stop or really steer the sled very well and I ended up colliding with it. I dont remember much until about 15 minutes later as my head hit the tree and I was knocked unconscious. There were reports that I was seizing and having difficulties breathing, so the natural thing to do was call 911. I was nearly evacuated by helicopter, but I re-gained consciousness and they decided it was better to take an ambulance. I was taken to UNMH and released around 6:00 that night... CT scan and chest x-ray reported nothing out of the ordinary, but I still feel like I got hit by a freight train... on top of it all, The medics had to cut through my brand new fleece coat and t-shirt I got for Christmas... Im surprised the hit didnt break any skin, or fracture my skull...I just have a massive bruise on the back of my head now. I think I may have done something to my rotator cuff as well. I've been getting these sharp pains in my shoulder every time I move my right arm... hopefully nothing too serious, but looks like I wont be riding for a while until that starts to heal I did get some nice EBR etched beer mugs to aide in my recovery, and an EBR long sleeved t-shirt to keep me warm. My wife being the truly wonderful woman she is says I should buy another bike, my S3 is out for a while with an unknown engine issue. The shop I hold responsible will not admit it and wants to swap out my engine instead. Thanks to Bart for getting me in touch with a former Buell tech in Phoenix that will fix it for me, I will be taking her up to him next week. Now I am in the market for an used bike, I'm thinking xb12r, s or scg, 2004-2005 in the 4k price range. Any ideas or advice? Thanks in advance, Art.....
