Well I finally pulled the trigger on surgery on my left knee. I have osteoarthritis and have been dealing with it for over 3 years now. The length of time between episodes have shorten and pain increased. Next Monday it's under the knife for an allograft. Has anyone had this done before? If so, what can I expect? Advise please. Doc says 6 weeks on crutches minimum. Looks like I'll have to store the Buell early. |

Hellraged- Buelltoberfest is October 14-16 at Suches, GA. Since TWO is closed down, I don't know what the central meeting point will be. Probably the gas station in Suches. Robert- I'm staying at C3 Central; it's a house traditionally rented by a bunch of NC Buellers. It's located about 10 miles west of Suches off highway 60. |

Looks like this coming weekend will be free.Any upstate Buellers want to ride? Also, been meaning to post this for a while.Last I saw in the local paper the land agreement hadn't been renewed,so it looks like it might not happen. This would be like fifteen minutes from my house. Oh well... http://www.racersparadise.us/ |

Took a ride this afternoon to do some exploring.I head out about 1,to let the sun warm things up.Went through Lake Lure to Black Mtn.A pretty good storm must of went through a few days ago as there were some pretty big trees uprooted and limbs down.I take the new little twisty road only to find ALOT of gravel in the corners. Not a good pic but here it is Made a loop back to 9 and I see two bikes, blue lights, and a couple of cars pulled over.Didn't see any damage on the bikes but really didn't look too close.I did pass a ambulance so I hope no one got hurt. Back to LL,took a water break, looked at some of the bikes going through, snapped the other pic I took, and rolled home. You could smell people had there fireplaces and wood stoves burning.Ah,I love this time of year! |

Sorry none of the rest of the SC contingent made it to Buelltoberfest. I stayed at C3 with mostly a bunch of guys from Tennessee including Barker, Ft_bstrd, Chadhargis, and several others. I was out of town for work last week, and was SUPPOSED to get back to Charleston at midnight on a flight from Harrisburg, PA. Well, our plane was the last one scheduled at 7:30 PM and after several delays, they canceled the flight at 8 PM. We found a hotel, got up at oh-dark-thirty Friday morning for a 7:30 AM flight. After BARELY making a connection in Chicago, I got back to Charleston at noon on Friday. Rushed home, threw the bags on the bike (luckily I had already laid everything out), grabbed a bag of clothes my wife had thoughtfully packed for me, geared up, and headed out at 2 PM. I kept the wick turned up pretty good and made it to Copperhead Lodge at 8 PM Friday night in time for the group dinner. We hung around there a couple of hours and then headed to C3 Central; had a cold ride back. I wound up in the basement again on an air mattress. I about froze again even though it wasn't as cold as it was a couple of years ago (remember that Matt?). We rode all day Saturday including one long stretch of gravel. Saturday night, we had supper at Skeenah Campground (on highway 60 about 8 miles from C3, right where you turn to go to Copperhead Lodge). Here's a pic of our group taking a break in a church parking lot on highway 60 west of C3: Despite moving my mattress and adding another layer of blankets I froze AGAIN Saturday night, until I said the hell with this and moved my crap to a chair and stool. Sunday morning, everyone was up pretty early as most had a long ride or drive ahead of them. No_rice was riding his 1125R all the way back to freaking Iowa- 12 hours away. It was kind of hard to complain about my 7 hour ride back knowing that. I stayed off the interstate most of the way back and had a good ride home. I even found a fairly twisty road north of Due West, SC. I rode SC 24 to 28 to 185 to 178 and took 178 as far south as Orangeburg where I jumped on I-26 for the last ~40 miles home. We couldn't have asked for better weather and temps were perfect. AFAIK nobody got ticketed and there were only a couple of fairly minor get-offs. I'm taking today off work to recover- 3 days is a little too "compressed" for this to be as fun as it should be. Last year, I stayed the whole week after which worked out well. I'm sure I'll be ready for March Badness in a couple of weeks... |

Kristi, the room wasn't that cold, it just seemed like the mattress stayed cold no matter what I did. I remembered that from previous stays, and put down a folded over quilt under it. Despite that I got cold Friday night so I got up and got a 2nd blanket to go between me and the mattress. That helped a little. Saturday night I thought I'd fix it so I moved the mattress on top of the rug in front of the fireplace and added another top blanket. Whatever side of me was on the mattress STILL got cold. I guess I'm just cold-blooded. If I wind up in that basement again, I'm taking extreme measures! |

I love the fact that the basement is open, but maybe we need to reconsider how many people we put in the cabin during the fall months. I hate for anyone to be cold and uncomfortable when staying in the cabin. If we didn't mind the cold, we'd save a lot of money and camp! |
