Does anyone know where I can get a trailer for my bikes return trip from North Carolina. I'm riding down solo and I want to ride in the truck on the way back. Does anyone have one I can rent/borrow? Is U-haul my only choice? Also, where can I get instructions on how to properly tie down my bike? JT |

Bomber, I'll work on the arm bands and batons(you aren't talking the kind you twirl like a cheerleader are you?). Impulse, First off don't get the tie downs that are 10.00 for 50 of them. Get good ones! Get four of them and some soft ties as well. On the front, wrap the soft ties around the fork, just above the lower triple tree. Then hook a tie down to each, a little trick if you are doing it alone is hook up the kickstand side first, just snug it, then do the other side. Pull down on the handlebar as you pull the tie down tight. This keeps you from having to rock the bike back and forth by yourself. Make sure you put a half-hitch knot just below the tie down buckle to eliminate any chance of slippage. Just make sure you undo this before you hit the "loosen" button or you'll be cutting your new tiedowns off with a buck knife. Don't ask me how I know this. At the back, just find a place on each side of the bike to hook a soft tie to and then a tie down and go to the hooks on the trailer. These just hold the bike from skipping around. Uhaul trailer usually do not have good places to hook tie downs. You also need to be concerned with what the front tire goes up against. It has to be able to be tight against something or it will turn and loosen the tie downs. Questions? Give me a call or stop up. Be glad to help. Dave |

Daves also, ratchet tie dodwns are a blessing! it's good to have them angling down, as opposed to horizontal, like hooking to the rings on many uhaul trailers . . . it's a lot easier with help, as you intimated, but possible alone . . . just triple check everything, and then stop after about 5 miles to check it again (specially if you've not done this alot before . . . . ) batons -- I was thinkin more like what the CHIPs carry, ya know, to keep outie and dyna in line! Hey, someone's gotta do it, yes? edited by bomber on July 13, 2004 |

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2484490684&ca tegory=34284 Use four 1 1/4" to 2" drywall screws to mount this to the trailer. keep it back far enough so the front wheel is as far forward as you can go. As for where to mount the tie downs. Go to the hardware store, pickup 4 tool box handles and more screws. Mount the handles to the trailer bed. It worked for me when I rented a trailer… edited by jon6516 on July 14, 2004 |

Thanks for the tie down advice guys. That wheel chock looks like it might be pretty trick. Anyone have an idea about where to get a trailer? Is U-haul worth it? One bad piece of news today. The neck bearings on my bike are shot, as well as the swingarm bearings, the isolators and a couple of other "minor" parts. The good news is that I got the extended warranty with the bike, so I don't have to pay for too much. It's going to be like a new bike when I get it back. I just hope it's not too long. JT |
