I just got a call back from Diamondback, the Diamondback lodge didn't have a room available for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I guess I'll look a little further. |

Don- Thanks, that looks pretty decent. Some of the other "mom and pop" motels nearby got some really bad ratings. I just sent them a request for availability. If that doesn't pan out, I may get one of the "camping cabins" at Bear Den. |

All this talk about Lil Switzerland made me get up at 6 this morning to head that way.Stopped to eat a biscuit and head for 226,a nice country ride with no traffic.Right before I get to 221 I run into a little sprinkle but nothing major.I make the left,then right with a car in front of me,which was fine by me as this was my first run up the Diamondback.Also never know where that troublesome gravel lays in wait in the corners.It was cool enough I flipped on the heated grips and was thinking of pulling over to put in my jacket liner.Heated grips on in July!Made the whole loop,went and filled back up at the gas station on 226($4.09 gallon) and headed back up.
Jumped on the BRP to head towards Lake Lure to meet up with a buddy.I was gonna run the parkway but pulled out GPS to see where it would take me.
Get to 80 south and what a surprise,a nice twisty road that was a little wet in some spots that I'm guessing from a late night rain.I came through one corner and see a white car taking pics.Kinda surprised me and really couldn't make the name on top of the car out(Blindkenny on a goggle search)of the corner of my eye.80 is now one of my favorites.On to Old Fort to 9.Nice corners and one had spray painted in the road "gravel in corner".Thank you.I am pretty familiar with 9 and keep rolling to the tourist trap.
I arrive at LL and stop to get in touch with my buddy.Damn Viper had to get in the pic
Gps eat up my cell battery so it's dead now.I deceided to head home but at the last moment head to Bear Shoals Road(or something Shoals Rd)for a spin around the Lake.Thanks again Darren and Don!One of my favorites also.Now it's to the house time.
Got comments on the bike at just about every stop.I like to ride early to avoid traffic and today was great.The only problem I encountered was when I got close to home I was getting into a turning lane and a car made it three wide ,coming head on with me.She cut off about three people to get back in and flipped me off!Very close being hit head-on,but I made it.223 miles and back home at 1:30. |

The very reason I seldom ride with a firearm!! Would be in the pokie serving time for shooting somebody!!

David- thanks a lot for the pre-meet report on Little Switzerland. Hope you can make it to the meet. Thanks for the info on the bike show; IIRC, someone on ADVrider posted a bunch of pics from that show last year.

I think this is great! Now you can add info for two emergency contacts that are only accessible by the Police/EMT/Fire departments to your drivers license information. They call it a transaction but there's no charge.
Sounds like a good deal. |

i would like a scbuell thingy teeshirt :P if they shrink alot when washed get me a xxl but if not xl would be good ( i buy xl at the store) ill meet up with ya somewhere in westcolumbia or barnyard or something and pay ya, let me know when you wanna meet! |

I'm booked in the Skyline Village Inn (between Little Switzerland and Spruce Pine, NC) for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Don is staying there too. Looks like a decent hotel:

Latest weather forecast for the weekend:
Temps look great, but you better pack your rain gear. OTOH- I'm sure this will change COMPLETELY before Friday. Ther is nothing like planning for a motorcycle trip to make you realize how completely useless weather forecasters are for anything more than a day or 2 in advance. |

Not sure what time to leave on Saturday. We are planning to head up 26, to 108, to 221, and take 226 into LS to meet everyone for lunch at noon. Also, might try to stop by the Chesnee bike/car show that xbslim mentioned, on the way back.
Guess we'll try to be on the road by 8 or 9. What do you think? |

29 & 26 sounds good. There is a McDonald's on one west side of 26 and a Chick-fil-a on the east. Preference? I'll be heading back Saturday as well but, I was thinking about stopping by Chesnee to have a look at the bike and car show.
