McKenzie Pass still closed from snow. They have one lane open for bicycles and pedestrians. We still have a few weeks to get some warm weather in so keep those fingers crossed. What the heck!! This is not good....  ODOT maintenance crews report that 20-foot snow drifts can still be found along the edge of the cleared lane. Maybe next weeks expected good weather will help... | ||

I've been stalling on booking a room or making any commitments for SPLASH until I saw how the career change was going. I've now established that it is stalled out to the point that I'll proceed as usual. Which means I also need a bunk-mate.I guess back-up plan for those who don't commit on time is the hotel across the highway and staying somewhat more sober than usual. Bummer. | ||

Update from Bend: There is a place just on the north side of town if anyone is still thinking about camping. It's Tumalo State Park - if you want to camp over the SPLASH weekend you should probably make reservations ASAP. A likely lunch spot on the Saturday ride would be a cafe in Oakridge. It is about half way along so makes a good stopping point. I have said that we intend to host a BBQ Saturday after the ride and have been thinking about the logistics so I want to share my thoughts in case others have other ideas ahead of time. The ride on Sunday typically takes us about 6 hours. I expect that it will take our larger group a bit longer. If we leave at 9 that will still put us back in Bend sometime in the afternoon. We live right off the highway as you enter Bend so we are planning on BBQ'ing some Salmon and having other appetizers and beer for the gang as we arrive back in town. There is plenty of bike parking in front of our house and it's only a left and 2 rights off the hwy. We're not thinking this is dinner or that there will be time to head into town and clean up before coming back to our house. "Balloons over Bend" will be happening that day and we will be heading down to the park at 8pm to view the lighting of the balloons. We hope that you all will want to stop in for a bite and a beer or two before returning to the hotel for evening festivities. Also, I rode the Saturday ride last weekend and will have some statistics for you coming up. There are some back roads out of Portland and into Bend that I plan to ride. I will try to get detailed maps and directions ready before the ride. If you would like me to send a copy to you please email me at mginbend@q.com. Correction to last post: Oakridge and open house BBQ are on Sunday's ride. Damn, I keep getting those days confused! Balloons over Bend is on Saturday. Saturday's ride will include 123 miles of fun roads, 55 miles of main hwy & 35 miles of urban freeway for a total of about 215 miles. For those who might want a longer ride there are some more options like riding the McKenzie Pass road the opposite way of the Sunday ride... | ||

Had a reason to get away and go for a ride. Got all dressed, pulled the bike out and ....dead battery. Huh? It was on the battery tender. Fark! Off to Western Powersports for a battery tomorrow. The good part is, I'm going to take a Triumph Tiger 800XC for a rip. Can't wait. | ||
