Good luck to Kerri and Jeff today at MMP with their track day. You guys paid your dues over the weekend with helping with track work and now you have some good weather finally so ride well and keep it rubber side down. Stay safe both of you. Sorry I missed seeing you both yesterday. Let us know how it goes. Bob |

Well, it was an interesting day, but I'll let Jeff explain it. Me? I only did a few sessions...way too crowded, way too windy, way too many crashes, and I was way too tired to try to keep up with the cool kids anymore so I left while I was ahead of the game. Interesting day indeed... |

Thats got to be good enough then Kerri. You did what felt right and thats the most important part of riding weather street or track. At least some seat time and it had to be fun while you were riding. Good call gal. Hows the new place coming along? Stay well and stay safe both you and Mom. Bob........Jeff? I need to figure out a way to stay home long enough to actually unpack a box or two...seems like I'm either at work way too long in the day or out all weekend. Mom and I are still going through some 'growing pains' but it's getting better. |

I've got a cure for that kind of stuff Brandon in the form of 230G hardball. Especially bad when you think we are all out there to just enjoy the racing and some good? biker comaraderie. It just plain sucks! |

FYI: caged it over Wolf Creek pass today and as said other places, its open and very ridable. The place the roadbed sank is filled in and temporarily covered with blacktop. Two places water is lightly running across the road and again, no problem. Still a lot of snow up there but the roadway is clean and dry. Two deer crossing the road so be careful! Sheep and cattle may be moving up soon so again be very aware and careful and have fun! If you want to see our pictures of it shoot me an e-mail address. Bob |

Wow, you are teaching too? I think I missed that somewhere along the way. From the sound of the last podcast I believe Chuck (Testcase) is also teaching. I think that's cool is all. Until I stopped teaching I was the only Buell rider teaching, now there's more. I hope to get back to it someday. Maybe if I get this four by four shift (12hr shifts) I can do it sooner than later. That is if they need teachers I guess. |

I think Dale always needs willing teachers! I like being a sportbike rider 'cause some of the students are like, "oh I have a sportbike, I can't do some of those moves", to which I respond "oh really? watch..." It's kinda funny...had a kid on a ZX-10 who could NOT do the box. He said he couldn't do it because of his bars (which were stock). I started talking to him about counterweighting and riding the back brake, and he looked at me like I was speaking Greek. Ok, bud...have fun, I'm not riding anywhere near you... LOL! |

East canyon is still closed from the Salt Lake side. I was up by Research Park yesterday and had some time so I headed up Immigration and figured I'd head up East since the ride was going well). There's light construction taking place in Immigration, it affects traffic but the road isn't torn up. Anyway the gate at the East Canyon entrance was closed and locked, bummer. I'll have to head up Big Cottonwood to get a riding fix I guess. Funny thing, after about 60 min riding time, I pulled in to my garage and shut the door, went back in there a few min later and the garage REEKED of gasoline. I've got rocker box leaks on the XB but that shouldn't be cause for the smell. Suggestions? Thinking maybe just injector seat seal are bad... |

Mike, simple things first. Did you fill up with fuel before going home and parking it? That usually makes fuel expand after being in the cold ground tanks and then into your tank and heating up. Usually just fumes but sometimes gasoline will expand and flow out the vent line evaporating quickly and leaving a strong smell. Just a guess based on others experiences especially in warmer weather. And thanks for the current report. Its (East canyon)our link to southside and northside riders. (Message edited by Bob_thompson on June 23, 2011) |

Thanks Bob, I've experienced fuel leaks from the M2 with a full tank, just from sitting in the summer sun, especially with that nylon tank it seems to pressurize pretty fast. I should have mentioned tank was filled up before the last ride, so I'm down a gallon or two. Fuel mileage has not been what I expected of this bike. I guess elevation has something to do with that? |

Todd (the other guy in the podcast) teaches for Dale. My time's spread thin enough, if I tried to take up doing that, my wife would eviscerate me! My wife has complained the Uly reeks of gas after I get home from a long ride. (Message edited by Testcase on June 23, 2011) |

Mike, let us know what you find out. AND: After hearing Monte Christo is open I caged it over to Woodruff from the Sinclair in Mt. Green. All roadways are dry and very rideable except a few places where water is running across the road and only about 6 ft. wide. Some dirt, dust and small rocks on the road (CR39) especially on the other side toward Woodruff but not a problem. A lot of bikes today for a weekday. Quite a few high mounds of snow on the shoulders from the snow blowers and cats up near the summit which is also not a problem. Road is still dry in those areas. The overlook is pretty full of snow but you can stop there. The campground is still closed. Time to RIDE IT! Wolf creek open also and just waiting for East canyon. More choices......great! Bob |

Cool, thanks for the input Chuck. Perhaps it's normal then, your bike being the trouble free vehicle it has been ...normal-ish anyway. Eviscerate, now that's a word you don't hear every day, that's the sort of thing you'd rather your wife didn't do to you. Guess I need to listen closer, I thought I had your guys's voices figured out. Bob cool stuff. Might have to do a ride up Wolfcreek next week then. Rode up Parleys today, just to check East Canyon again. I was thinking "any day now they'll open it" and hoped I'd get lucky. Maybe tomorrow... or the next day perhaps. XB is getting 43MPG. How's that compare Brandon and Chuck? I think the M2 gets about that mileage too, except when I ride with extra enthusiasm. |

I think you can attribute that smell of fuel to heat soak. After you shut down, your bike absorbs and distributes that engine heat. Your frame / fuel tank is a giant chuck of aluminum, and due to the engine placement, absorbs a fair amount of that heat. I think your fuel is vaporizing, increasing pressure in the tank, venting, and re-condensing somewhere near the end of that vent line. My vent exits near the passenger pegs, where it's much cooler. I've watched fuel drip from my vent line on the 12R an hour after I've shut it down. I haven't had this smell from the 12SCG because it's 50 state legal, and has the emissions canister. I'm not going to sit here and tell you that's exactly what it is, just throwing out my idea. It probably wouldn't hurt to keep that garage door open a little bit to keep those vapors from building up. Also Mike, what's your work schedule like this weekend? I think I'm going to run the cottonwoods either Sat or Sun. |

Thanks Brandon, that makes sense. I didn't think to trace the vent line. I should probably do that to see if that's where it's coming from. I'm actually off this weekend and would love to meet up for a ride, and the Cottonwoods are my favorite. |

LOL. I let Todd know you're confusing our voices and he'll retreat back to his post-processing gear and fiddle around to figure out to make me sound more like a knuckle-dragger! I don't mind at all, as long as you don't mind helping scrape me out of the ditch when I try to keep up with you guys. Or at least call EMS for me. I'm good for Sunday, after 12:30 or so. |

Ok, sunday @ 12:30 it is..... How does Java Jo's at 6895 Highland Drive sound? From there we can hit Big Cottonwood fairly quickly. At the intersection of Highland and Fort Union, head south, and it should be about a quarter of a block away. If you have a different spot in mind, let us know. |
