Don't let Bart fool you. He knows all about it. He just doesn't attend because he doesn't get along with something like 50% of the people. I'm not sure if it's him getting crankier in his old age, or them. Either way, bring a camera if he does attend. There will be fireworks. |

CJ, thanks for giving me the benefit of the doubt. But I really have no clue what rally you are talking about. The only rally I knew of that you put on was the Taos rally. As for the 50% remark, that may or may not be true. I prefer not to ride with squids, or anyone else that likes to ride like an idiot. And yes, I usually won't attend a rally that Murrae the snake oil salesman and backstabber is attending. I can be congenial to the fellow, when I want to be. So tell me again about this rally I know all about? |

Does murrae attend the rally usually? |

The Taos rally that Chick used to put on morphed into the SW Buell Rally when our Zia Thunder group started doing it in 2006 or so. We've had a moving rally since then. 2006 was in Santa Fe, 2007 was in Taos, 2008 was also in Taos (I think). 2009 we did a moving thing, one night in Pagosa and one night in Gateway, CO. 2010 we were in Red River. 2011 we're planning on doing Durango or something around there. I need to find the hotel and plan the routes, lunch stop, group dinner, etc. Now that it's creeping up fast, I need to get the ball rolling. We generally get a fair turnout from NM. Myself, Ed, Nick, Murrae, Mabel, etc. Last year Russ came up and we got a few guys from the Taos area. We get a pretty sizable turnout from Colorado, Dave Kaminen, Carbon Fiber Bob, Roger, etc. Usually they'll bring wives, too. Frank Skinner and Jody Leavell, too. Kim & Cheryl, some friends of Frank's who apparently used to organize lots of Buell gatherings in the 90's. Also last year we got the Baldwin saddle couple, Buellhusker, a couple from Texas, etc. It's a good time. And while he doesn't ride a Buell anymore, I got Luis to be the ride leader for the "fast" group. We had like 30+ bikes last year. Murrae does usually attend, but recently it's been a challenge for him to get that weekend off of work. He came up only for the last night in '10. Bart's buddy Bill Conway hasn't attended in a few years. Kim Ingraham also hasn't attended due to health problems. Warren "wild man" Peary hasn't been seen in a while, either. Kim Prichard is usually racing, but we went out of our way to put the rally on a non-race weekend last year and this year. Overall, it's a good time. It's not ONLY for Buells. My son rides his Suzuki, Luis rides his Ducati, Kim & Cheryl ride HD and Triumph. Actually, that makes me wonder now if Kim Prichard actually went last year on her Triumph? I can't remember. Anyway, Bart, there's a sizable contingent of spouses and spouse equivalents, too, many of whom ride their own bikes. Lynn, Nick's wife Jackie, and a couple others all ride Buells. Sounds like Russ' girlfriend, too. So, maybe if you and Deb wanna join, it would be fun. Invite Kelly and his girl, too. Or whoever. We normally charge $25 per person and provide rally t-shirts for all, awards for things like highest average mileage on the bike you brought to the rally, youngest or newest rider, people's choice for favorite bike, etc. There's a planned route the main day with a planned lunch stop (on own for lunch) and then a big group dinner back at the hotel or somewhere nearby (again, on own). It's fun. |

It is pretty likely that we CAN have Zia Thunder patches by then... I can get the ball rolling on that if you would like? I dont have much in the way of classes this summer as the only class I registered for at UNM was cancelled the day before it started. I usually have some free time on the weekends and can probably get to the local patch shop to get a few quotes in the next week or so, and maybe a "sample" to show off soon after. I would need a definite number of patches to order as I dont want to order 50 and only use 10... that is a waste of money. but I dont want to order 10 and need 50 either because they nickel and dime you for small orders. Usually most require a minimum number of patches to be made...usually 10 or 20. our group is fairly small, so I dont know how many or what size to get ordered. some input would be nice. |

I would recommend something like 50 since that would likely satisfy the order minimum and we probably won't go over that number in our group. |

Probably not... do we have a size that we are looking for? I was thinking around 4 or 5 inch, but looking at my tape measurer, 5 inches seems too big for a patch...at least for a shoulder patch... maybe ok for chest any thoughts? |

I contacted Zia Graphics and asked for a quote for the design. a 4" patch will run $342.50 for 50 of them ($6.85/ patch) a 5" patch will cost $376 @ 50 patches ($7.52/ Patch) Production time is about 3 weeks also. Let me know if you would like me to keep shopping around. (Message edited by agfish18 on June 16, 2011) |

The unit price seems a bit high but Zia Graphics has good reputation for high quality products. I'm OK with the price and I'm looking at getting 4-5 of them... |

I think it's high as well, but I suspect that's because of the low count. If he had a higher number, it would spread out production costs more. I would also buy several, so I am ok with it. |

ok, I can get these ordered if you want I am going to ask if they need payment upfront or after completion, and I'd like to at least see a sample product before I make the order. I dont want to have it look like crap and be forced to buy them. |

Hope they can give the two "Pegasii" enough definition on a 4" patch. A 4" patch is also my preference. |

Yeah, I'd push for a sample first. Then, if we need the money up front, we should arrange to send you some so it's not all out of pocket. |

That sounds great. this is their response "We require half down at art approval and the balance at delivery. If you require a sew out first, then we need $90.00 down for that. If a sew out is required then you have to add an extra week." Brenda I am assuming that a "sew out" is a sample... |

Huh... is there some other way for them to show you what it's going to look like? Do they have some sort of digitized sampling images? Idunno... it's up to you guys. If you do it, let me know and I'll kick in. |

Hey CJ, I know this is off the patch topic, but are you still planning on going on the Lake City ride? I sent a group email a few days ago and I've not heard from you. Drop me an email at rowbilt@msn.com Oh, I'd like a patch as well. Sorry for the interruption, carry on. Bob |

So are you really having the rally in Durango??? I actually have the time off and I'm planning on attending, unless work gets in the way. |

No,Bob, unfortunately, I cannot attend Lake City. Long story. Yes, Kim, the rally is in Durango. I suspected you may have the time off since I went pretty far out of my way to ensure there were no races or track days (at Sandia, anyway, I don't know the schedules at the other tracks). I really hope work doesn't get in your way. It often gets in mine. I should have more on the rally in the coming few weeks. Be on the lookout. |

Awe thanks... I'm glad you guys planned around the Sandia races. There is a race in UT that weekend, but I'm not heading back over there until Oct. It's been so long since I've had the time to ride with you all that I'm working hard to be able to make it to this one. |
