Seriously? Hail downtown? Glad I made the smart decision and ran back inside rather than trying to ride home in it. I don't think my rain pants would have done me any good today. |

Anybody alive out there? Hopefully Joel survived the hail. Hopefully he's getting that S1 put back together too! I'm making slow progress on my Uly revival. Got all the parts I need to install the "new" 09 engine except for a proper wiring harness. Hope to make a decision on that today. Matt- you interested in some of my left-over engine parts? I'll probably also have a few good 2009 XB12R parts leftover if anyone's interested, including a clutch cable, throttle cables, kick stand, and wiring harness. |

Hugh, Glad your making progress.....I know that was a real kick in the teeth. Do you see much difference between the two motors? |

Hey Charlie- well, the "new" engine is mostly crinkle black (like my 2000 S3) instead of champagne gold; I think I'll like that. Mounting points are identical. Oil line connections to swing arm appear to be identical (fingers crossed). Several electrical connections to engine are different (as expected): crankshaft position sensor, voltage regulator, idle air valve (new part), and I believe the fuel injector wiring connectors are different. The wiring in front of the transmission output pulley is MUCH cleaner than the 07. The throttle cables attach to the throttle body differently and the pulley has an eccentric shape to give a gradual opening at part throttle and a quicker opening as you open it up. Of course the right side of the engine looks very different with the new oil pump arrangement. I'm pretty impressed with seeing all the changes in the 08-up engine (as opposed to just reading about them). Buell definitely made this engine better. I'll bet they weren't done yet when Harley pulled the plug. Oh yea, I'm looking forward to having ~400 RPM more to play with! (Message edited by Hughlysses on April 27, 2011) |

Hugh, Well at least for all the money you had to put out to get back on the road, your getting some decent up-grades. Hope everything goes smoothly for you. Looking forward to getting a ride in sometime before it gets too hot. PS....Does both motors use the same cams? |

Yea, I'm looking forward to riding the Buell again. I've been riding my Honda Ascot a lot, but it doesn't have nearly the grin factor of the Buell. No, the 08-up motor has different cams. The back two cams are longer as they directly drive the new oil pump gerotors. There aren't any bronze bushing inserts in the cases for the cams either; they run directly in the aluminum castings. The cam bearings do however get full pressure lubrication now as opposed to the "splash" lube they apparently got on the older engines. Here are some pics from the "2008 Technical Forum" booklet the factory put out showing the changes:
The big advantage is no more pesky crankshaft/oil pump drive gear that's prone to wearing and fragging. The new oil pump also apparently puts out significantly more flow. |

With this better Oil pump I would strongly suggest adding the latter and larger Oil cooler. You said the injectors wired differntly, I wonder if they share with the 1125 fuel pressure monitoring? You will love the stepper motor for warm ups. |

With this better Oil pump I would strongly suggest adding the latter and larger Oil cooler. Mike- the "new" engine came complete with oil cooler and hoses so I'm good to go there. From what I can gather from the Technical Forum publications, Buell added the fuel pressure monitoring in 2010, along with the second O2 sensor. |

Matt- heads should be fine. Rear cylinder intake valve had a good bit of gunk built up on it (probably from PCV system) but I've been soaking port with brake cleaner and I think it'll all come out easily. Let me know if you're interested. |

one? I would have been lucky, my helmet is covered in them Nick- apparently they're a lot more numerous on your side of the state than ours. Our band played for a wedding reception in Abbeville a couple of weeks ago. From ~1 PM to 4 PM, the cicadas were so loud it sounded like a 4,000 HP electric motor with a bad bearing in it. Jadow- Haven't heard anything about that. Any idea how many 1125's there are locally? I used to see one in Summerville every now and then but I haven't seen it in over a year. Big News- my Uly is running and back on the road with the "new" 09 engine. Only glitch has been that the muffler valve cable broke as I was putting it back together. I'm riding it with the valve wired open for the time being. This motor sounds like a sewing machine compared to the original. I'm wondering if my original engine had been grinding itself to bits for the last few hundred miles, so that the noise level gradually increased (and power decreased) without me realizing it. At any rate, I am G-L-A-D to be back on the road! Matt- if you want those heads, please PM me. I'm gonna list the left over parts in the classifieds in the next week. |

I am so glad your project is complete. I am impressed with your accomplishments. LCHD has taken in 2 1125s this month. one stock and one with a wicked D&D. both went up to MB for the rally sales. |

Jadow- I was in LCHD (getting some of those funky zip ties with a push-in retainer on one end) last Saturday and I saw the 1125 with the D&D. It looked pretty cool. |

This group is getting awfully quiet again. I spotted a Buell and rider yesterday just off the Citadel campus (they don't allow motorcycles on campus so riders have to park outside in a designated area). I talked to the guy for just a sec. I told him about Badweb which he'd never heard of. Hopefully he'll drop by and check it out. Bike has a Drummer so it sounded good...

Took a much needed ride today.I kinda had no idea where I was going to go.Ended up going up to Hickory Nut Gorge, thru Fairview to BRP.I had Mt. Mitchell on my mind but I stopped at the Craggy Gardens(15 miles away from Mt Mitchell) for a bathroom and stretch break and decided I would just go back down the parkway.I stayed at Craggy for about 20 minutes.I snapped this nice view.Cell pics. Then a few miles down the road ran into this The wind wasn't blowing so I don't know what caused it to fall.I was talking with some other riders at Craggy Gardens that pulled out a couple of minutes before me and they must of just missed it.I stopped to snap the pic and talk to a few people and decided to turn around and take a nice little road (Town Mtn Rd I think)and go through Asheville. It was a great day for a ride.Be safe and watch out for them trees! |

Nice pics XBslim. Hey, has anyone here got a left over muffler valve actuator from an XB12? If you've got a Drummer or a race ECM on your bike, you don't need it. I'm looking for one for my Uly; I figured out mine was toast yesterday. |

Eryc- I changed cell phones about a year ago, so if you texted me I didn't get it. Thanks- but I should be good on the actuator; I've got a used one I bought cheap on the way. Hopefully it'll show up Thursday or Friday. If there's a problem with that one I'll be in touch. BTW- it's about time for an SC Buell gathering. Anybody got any ideas for a date/route/meeting place? |
