Wow, Tony...I'm glad you're still more-or-less kicking. That is really scary. I know exactly where this happened. Did your body actually hit the car? That's just a nasty mix of injuries. I've had a couple scares with the sidestand down on my Uly - there's no sensor on it, just a floppy spring. It's a painful reminder to all of us. Thanks for letting us know. I was cruising through Sterling, VA yesterday and saw the motorcycle classes at the community college - stopped in to watch the beginners and the intermediate classes for awhile. Makes me realize I need to get into a refresher course. After I hit a deer, my insurance company proposed to replace every part that had a scratch, just like yours. I went through that list and started crossing things off. Now my bike has lots of "character". Heal fast...good luck with the rebuild... |

Hooper, Yeah, I checked the shop manual last night and was surprised that there is no switch on the kickstand. So it was strictly user error I know my clutch switch is broken so I just assumed the two might have been on the same circuit. If I get the bike back on the road, I am going to install a switch on the kickstand for sure. I thought most modern bikes had that safety mechanism on them by law. Yep, hitting pavement is everything I imagined it would be. |

Your bike doesnt look bad at all. If you can live with scratched parts as I have it probably would be worth fixing. |

That's what I'm thinking too. I called Progressive and told them I'm planning on keeping it. Once I'm moving around a bit better I can start pickup up parts as I find them. I'm pretty sure it will have a salvage title though and I'm not happy about that if I go to sell it one day. |

Lars & Paul, I think I may be getting to the bottom of the handling issue that Ben commented about. The forks / axle seem to be tweaked. Tire seems to be warn more on one side. The tire seems to be turned slightly when everything is pointing forward. Nice Ride. Glad to be back in southern MD. |

Well, "Sport-Bike" riders are being bashed in today's Washington Post. Lunatics on Rt. 50 in MD terrorizing the cagers. MD State Police are "frustrated" because they can't catch these riders. |

Took me a minute to get that. Yes, I was on Route 50 from 424 to Annapolis. I was on my black/gold Firebolt though. Did a vigorous run solo up Pax. River Rd. on the way to GF's house. On Route 50, I did no faster than the cars. Actually, some cars passed me. |

Have you ever noticed that the local traffic reports also always point out when a motorcycle is involved? Is that important? It think it's unintended(?) ghoulishness on the part of the reporter, knowing that when people hear a bike was involved, they get images of carnage in their heads (which sells news). They also tend to mention the make of the cars involved in car accidents if they're nicer, like "A BMW and a truck were involved in an accident on the Inner Loop today...", or "There's a backup on the Dulles Toll Road right now because of an accident involving a Mercedes and a motorcycle." You never hear "Interstate 70 was closed today because of a deadly collision between a semi and a Kia." Rant off... |

Hey Bman! When the cops in Maryland get radios, catching those folks will be no trouble at all!!! Bman....how is the 1125? |

I think they had to sell the radios to buy gas for the cruisers. The 1125 is fine. Just resting in the garage. Its clean and ready to ride, but will need tires in about 1K or so. So, the Firebolt got the whole 10K service done, by me, and it is getting ridden. Didn't ride it very much last year, so....... How is your "Buell collection" doing? |

If I get out these days it will have to be on a bicycle. And even that may be a while since I just started walking without crutches. |
