I also like #1. I am going to try to ride Jemez on Saturday 4/16 leaving from my house around 1100 or so. Wanna meet me at the Shell Station on 528 just a few feet south of 550? We can gas up there and be on our way. There was snow this morning in Jemez. I hope that in the next ten days, things warm up and clear off. |

Ed, I will see you there I suppose. CJ, I should be able to make that. and Jemez, as long as it didnt get too much snow, should be cleared off by then. anyone else going or just us? I will more than likely be 2 up, just to let you know. |

I'll be at the track this sunday and the next. I'd like to ride on Sat, but I've got a lot of work to get things ready for the track. My trailer is a mess from the trip to Inde. I've still got safety wiring to do on the bike and I've gotta finish drilling the spare body work and get it to the painter. Yikes, there tons to do. CJ, you and Anthony doing any track days? |

Now someone can contact either Blake or Froggy and have them add the emblem to the New Mexico thread header. |

Ah, smeg. Forgot the first track day was this Sunday. Hm... I may wander out to say hi, I don't think I have the whole day allocated clear to run. |

I'm sure we'll do some track days, but probably not before June. We're committed already all the other weekends before then. |

Jemez has become a funeral procession (if you start too late in the day)... |

It can get that way, but usually clears up past Soda Falls I've noticed. The beginning part before you actually get into town can get fairly slow, as car after car go down there, an no one knows how to pass, or are unable to with all the corners... and the ridiculous speed limit of 30 MPH is it? or 35? I know it gets down to 25 once you get close to the town. |

I've been stuck in long processions from La Cueva to the Ponderosa turn-off... too many times. You have plenty of time to look at the scenery... The dual purpose (Uly, STT?) riders can cut through Ponderosa... or through the Tunnel, or turn at La Cueva and then to Cuba... AVOIDING Jemez entirely. Fun too... However, it might be tough bouncing around gravel roads on road-only bikes. |

It is what it is. I'm hoping that there will not be too many folks out yet. And if there is, well... that's just the way it goes, I guess. It's just nice to get out on the bike. |

So... There's a purple 2002 Blast in my garage now. The gf can flatfoot it, and I actually really enjoyed riding it. Gutless wonder, yes, but it's light, it handles surprisingly easily, and it's fun to ride. Oh, and it'll do 85 into a headwind with me on it. It does have a bad fork seal on one side, but that seems pretty standard for bikes that have sat for a while. I'll see what fixing that involves, or take it up to Santa Fe if it's cheap enough for them to do it. |

Another Blast finds a happy home... Congrats. Hope the gf enjoys it. BTW: CJ, have you ever thought about doing some dirt roads with your Uly? |

Well, I have thought about it, but since I have the XT and not the X, it didn't get much farther than that. I remember in 2005 at the Riding the Rockies BRAG event, when Erik showed up and gave us a pretty lengthy presentation on the new Ulysses, which nobody had yet seen, he was really pushing the adventure aspect of it, comparing it directly to the R1150GS. It obviously had good off road capabilities. I asked him at that time when he was going to introduce another sport tourer, along the lines of the S3T. He said, "This is it." I didn't believe him. Adventure, yes. Sport tourer? I don't think so. But when they came out with the XT, I then knew that this was it. This is what I wanted because I wasn't all that keen on the off road aspects. Frankly, if I do need to go down a dirt road to get where I'm going, it'll go there. Any bike will. I took my Firebolt down the back way from Cedar Crest to Placitas and that road is pretty rough. But really, I bought this bike for it's two up capability, it's luggage and load bearing capability, and it's comfortable all day on the highway riding position. I rode it to California last year with a stop over in Scottsdale, and it was great. Even being an air cooled twin going through Yuma, AZ at noontime in late June. Why? You got some dirt roads you're dying to try? Bart just bought a Suzuki 650 dual sport. I wouldn't mind having something like that, but it's way down my list of things to get. |

I take the TT on dirt roads... Ponderosa, the tunnels road to Fenton Lake... Cochiti road to Rt 14. I used to have a couple of dirt bikes but not anymore. The TT is my multi purpose bike for now. I wouldn't mind having the new Triumph 800XC or a BMW F800GS for more robust off-road travel. |

Yeah, I heard a lot of good things about that BMW. Haven't seen the Triumph yet. I'll have to get over there sometime soon to see what they've got. Not that I'm buying. |

Russell, Congrats on the Blast purchase, I'm sure your GF will love it. CJ, I'm STILL waiting for Buell to come out with a real Sport Tourer. I found my XT to be lacking in the long distance department. The seat was certainly comfortable, but the bike itself could not handle the load of myself, Debbie, and all three bags loaded for a 5000+ mile trip. The front end was too light and tried to wheelie leaving intersections, and the handling was horrible. We did make sure that the bags were NOT overloaded, I think 15 lbs in each saddlebag, and 10 lbs in the trunk. I had the rear preload maxed out, to try and stop the pogoing that was going on, and it helped slightly. It's just not a REAL Sport Tourer, it's a great weekend bike though... I'm going to call in sick tomorrow and ride the Jemez, since it will be the only day with little or no wind... Priorities... |

You know, Bart, I noticed that. I haven't had the bags full when I've gone two up with Angela, but even those days, with the rear preload maxed out, it's squishy. Also, when I went to California, I had all the bags full (but within weight limits) and then a huge duffel on the seat that probably weighed in at 50-60 pounds. The front did seem light to me. However, it was windy for a good part of that trip so I attributed it to that. It was top heavy when loaded, confounding my mass centralization. I'm going to try it out on some other trips to see how it does. |

Bartimus: She does And I grin while riding it, so I can't complain. All in Albuquerque area: PJ's Triumph is having demo days next Fri & Sat, if you are interested. I saw a Triumph Tiger 800 mentioned... I want to ride one as well. |

Congrats on the Blast purchase! Hope you guys both can enjoy that. I am working Friday... so no riding during the day for me, but I am still up for Saturday. For those who went to track day, (I think just Ed, Nick and myself from here) check out some pictures at my dad's site...www.fetishbear.ifp3.com. He was out taking photographs most of the morning. He will be out there again next sunday for race day taking pics as well. |

I'm loving the Blast so far. It's small, handles light (despite not actually *being* very light... 360 dry?), and is fun to flog. 87mph feels like an accomplishment. The intake coupler came loose on Sat, but after tightening it back down, it's been a blast. I'm going to get new tires for it, and a new intake coupler, and then just go. More importantly, my gf likes it, and we've been potting about getting her some miles. Hopefully she'll be comfortable enough to try riding some stuff at the demo day too |

Man, I love having Moto Authority around here. They've managed to *substantially* beat the best online prices I've found for a set of MT75s for the Blast. |

Moto Authority is pretty awesome. I always take my track bike there. Steve is a good guy, and has good business practices... IMO I got my track tires for a heck of a deal compared to anything else I found online, and he gives reasonable prices for maintenance issues too (oil changes, parts installs, etc) any of you guys sore from the track? my legs are killing me lol |

I am pretty beat. First one of the season has pretty well ruined me for about a day. I should be good tomorrow. Forgot sunscreen so my face and neck got pretty crispy. |
