Xbslim...if Im not mistaken, theres a store on Hwy11 just north of 276, we can meet there. I figured it will take the group from Columbia 2hrs to get to 11 & 276. So we can meet at 11am. I will ride up there Saturday to see if theres a better place to meet and post back. |

Patrick- apparently the I-385 work finished ahead of schedule and it was re-opened earlier this week: http://www.thesunnews.com/2010/07/25/1601956/i-385 -reopened-after-7-month-closure.html |

Hey folks, we are finally out of Maine and in the area (North Charleston) and somewhat settled in. I look forward to meeting some of you soon. I'm off until Aug 23, but after having the displeasure of being in rush hour traffic when the heat index was 119 a couple days ago, I'm looking forward to the cooler weather. Any hills near this area, or do you have to go northeast? |

Hi Rich, welcome aboard. Yea, riding in traffic this time of year can be brutal. I've seen actual temps of ~110 deg. F in the stop-and-go traffic on I-26 during rush hour, so I'm sure the heat index is even worse. When it's that hot, it doesn't matter much if you're moving or not. The state gets hillier as you go north-west. There are some great twisties in the north-west corner of the state west of Greenville just south of the NC border. Highways 276, 178, and 28 are some great roads in that area. If you want to join us, a group of us are headed up to that area this Sunday. See info above. |

Josnow, there is an Ingles north of Travelers Rest that according to google street view seems pretty easy to get in and out of at 1500 Geer Highway. we could meet there if you don't have any other suggestions by 7 am Sunday morning. |

Drfudd, Ingles sounds good to me.... Xbslim, You ok with meeting there? If you are coming done hwy 11, its only about 7 miles out of the way. I am guessing it takes 2hrs to get to Ingles from Columbia so I guess we can meet up at Ingles at 11:00am? |

I got home about 20 minutes ago. I feel like a new man after some food and a brewski. Nick- you missed the turn for 178 in Pickens- I hope you got to Anderson OK. We figured it out and doubled back, but I think we would have been OK if we'd kept going the way we were going. What a weird weather day. I got in a hard rain ~10 miles out of Summerville this morning. I pulled over, suited up, and rode about 10 miles in a decent rain before it cleared up. The sun came out so I took the rain gear back off. We ran through misting rain several times throughout the day, then heavy fog going up 276 to Caesar's Head. I couldn't believe how cool it was most of the day. We didn't get to anything like hot weather until we were almost to Columbia this afternoon. It wasn't that hot but it was really muggy. Sorry you had to give a donation to the Man, Joe. I'll post up a few pics later. |

Sorry you missed it Matt. First time I've ever had a "cage free" run up 276 to Caesar's Head, but the dense fog we hit about half way up brought our brisk pace WAY down for about the last 5 miles. My total mileage was a little over 500 miles. |

Made it home.I enjoyed meeting and riding with ya'll.Not everyday I get to see a couple of Buells in front of me,especially when they disappear into the fog.I'm glad everyone got home safe. Joe,I guess I talked that speeding ticket up today. As Nick said, speeding tickets SUCK. I hope we can get another ride in again sometime soon.Be safe. |

the day started out good, i made my way up to Columbia, although I was driving into the sun the whole time. Seth and Huge showed up and we made our way up 26 came into 4 patches of mist/ misty rain. one of them I had to slow down a little bit, was stinging a little bit. we also hit a few patches of sunshine.
Met up with David and Jo, Jo has a really nice bike, profile pictures doesn't do him justice.
Jo leaded us up 276, it was going good until about halfway up we hit dense dense fog, couldn't see anything, had to slow down to a crawl. but the first part was a lot of fun. the plan was to stop at the lookout but it was so dense we couldn't see the entrance, made it to Brevard,
couldn't decide were to eat, so Burger king it was, which I like Burger king anyway, all of us like cheap food, although Burger king isn't that cheap. stopped at a few places talked alot, had fun. the way back down 178, seth leaded because he was in the fastest bike, we got behind a ford explorer but even behind a car it was still fun, no fog this time. stopped at 11 and 178, talked for a bit, talked with some other riders riding the pass. when that 1125R takes off, it really TAKES OFF. I had a hard time keeping up, had to downshift on one straight he supposedly made it to 120, I got to 110, and he didn't downshift, just throttle.
From there David took 11 home, the rest of us went to pickens, Jo took a right and presumably got a ticket, I tired to find 178 but didn't got turned around eventually I found 178, Seth and Huge took 183 to greenville and rode home. I took 178 to 123 over to 25, not like last time where i went through anderson. 25 was boring and very long, I took a very long break in greenwood I was beat, but I made it home alright. and no my chords on my tire are not showing....yet. I had a lot of fun, this should be a yearly thing. I had to do it this time because I gotta pay a lawyer for something we need so i'm gonna be hurting for a while. and I need to put some miles on the bike. although I payed for it today, hamstrings are killing me. |

Clocked me at 48 in 25...cut me a break for 34 in 25, 2 points & $81. I was no more than 1/8 mile from the red light where we split up. I knew I shouldve stayed with you guys and continued down 178. Glad everyone made it home safely. Nick, thanks for the kind words about my bike. |

Sorry 'bout the ticket Joe. I'm ALWAYS careful in little towns in SC- speeding tickets are their only source of revenue. A few more pics... Preparing to leave Columbia
Taking a break at the rest area north of Clinton on I-385
Debating where to get lunch in Brevard
Total miles for the day.
I felt pretty good for a 500 mile day (especially after going to bed sore as hell the night before after working on my roof for ~6 hours). I got a little too much wind because I'd removed my Laminar Lip thinking it was going to be a scorcher. I was getting a pretty bad case of "monkey butt" by the end of the day too. I may try one of those wooden bead seat covers to see how that works. Other than that, I was pretty dang comfy. I'm half-way to an Iron Butt! (Message edited by Hughlysses on August 02, 2010) |

I went to bed at around 8 last night and slept till 9:30 this morning, but I guess it didn't help that I was nursing a hangover Sunday during the ride. I got 346 miles round trip, had a little monkey butt myself. But loved every minute of the ride. Had a blast meeting you guys and look forward to riding again. |

Dang sounds great (except for ticket). I am glad I didnt try and make it. The wedding party was better than expected and I didnt wake until 10:30 and had hangover/headache. Maybe next time. We should do this more than once a year.... |
