I had seen several BWB photos in posts from some time ago showing Ulysses, both X & XT, in serious cornering, knee near draggin, and some on race courses doing the same. Seeing 8" of fresh white stuff outside this morning, it is unlikely I can recreate such settings nor likely such capability.
But I have need for a few of those shots for settling an argument with a wannabee sport bike expert.
I looked through the last couple years of photo section posts to no avail. I thought perhaps a Homecoming in the past with track day? Do you remember what the thread topics were that had those photos, or who the riders were? Better still, if you have some shots of a good deep lean in a curve on a Uly, can you please post them or PM me?
They were not posted by me. I posted some of a S2T on the track. If you have not already asked the Uly "girls" just post on the Uly board and I am sure you will get a lot of pics.
I have to admit, it is a debate with a friend back in Michigan who owws a '96 S1 Lightning since new, and basically Harley's before. Never been on a track, calls the S1 the first Buell Sport Bike, the one that put Buell on the map. He is ignorant & arrogant. Gives no credibility to the S2 selling 2,000 bikes before the S1 was introduced and the S3 being more powerful.
Since all the snow, my jacked knee from slipping and falling, twice!!! (and not ROTFLMAO when it happened last) I figure a good e.fight with a troll is a worthwhile endeavor to rid the world of ignorance in some small way.
He is truly a troll, living under the Big Mac bridge in Michigan, yuppers live north of it, trolls live beneath the bridge.
I just watched my underdog under powered Michigan Tech Huskies take on the #2 DU Pioneers in hockey in Denver last night. I guess I am still worked up over a clear gaol taken away that would have made it MTU 4, DU 5 with 8 minutes left to go. Instead MTU lost 3 to 5.
I knew the NBA paid off refs, but college hockey now too???
Jammer, let him know this. The S1 certainly was a significant bike for Buell. More so than the S2 however, the S1 was the first Adventure Bike for Buell. Yep, it was designed to go anywhere. Narrow frame, seat and tank. High clearance and light weight made it perfect to tear down a dirt road.
Of course to owners (I have owned two S1s) they were just badass street fighters. You may remember this promotional video from 1995 1996 time frame. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RW8tAKG4rr0
A bit of trivia. Ask your buddy why the S2 came out before the S1... Seems the S1 should be first. S1, S2, S3 ect but it went S2, S1 and S3...
The answer is they were already working on the S1 when HD bought into Buell. They needed something fast and the S1 would not be ready so they made the S2 which is very similar and uses many of the same parts as the Westwinds.
Our daughter told us that you logged on for her team to support the Multiple Sclerosis walk next Saturday we are all doing in Ft Collins. Thanks.
In all of this, she is learning about what real friends and solid people do to support others in need. Until now we have always been the ones giving support and it is reaffirming to see it returned.
U.S. Marine Corps Master Sgt. William Gibson Jr. helps fold an American flag after it flew over the World Trade Center construction site with a member of Rolling Thunder, a veterans motorcycle organization, in New York, May 4, 2010. Rolling Thunder riders will bring the flag to the 2010 Warrior Games in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The competition for wounded troops will take place May 10-14 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.
I have been going through some files of my Dad's. It has taken me a long time be able to look through his stuff without a tear.
I thought this was interesting.
TO ALL MARINES WHO SERVED UNDER COLONEL VAN D BELL, JR. USMC (RET) -KOREA 1951-52 Listen to me all you Marines I have a story to tell, It's about some warriors and their CO called "Ding Dong" Bell. The place was known as Korea a long, long time ago, Many of them came back from there, but some didn't you know. We had a job to do, you see that's what Marines are for, Our company would be assigned a mission; one hill, two or more. The skipper would lead his men realizing the going would be rough, But for us Marines we never shirk because we had to be tough. 1stSgt Skinner would say let's show them just what we can do, So off we would go just doing what Marines always do. Bursting shells and flying bullets zinging through the air, Kicking up the dirt and dust giving the men quite a scare. Most missed the warriors on the hill, others finding their mark, "Keep going, lads" the skipper yelled; We must take this hill by dark!" Then out of no where a weary, frighten lad began moving forward, Making a way for others so they could follow. With this heroic deed and the objective was now secure, As the skipper came upon him he said "well done" I'm sure. To all those who didn't come down that hill, And reported on that heavenly scene, I'm from A/1/7 sir, a United States Marine. A company known as "Stable Able" had done their job so well, The skipper and the 1stSgt were very proud as hell. LEONARD R. "SHIFFTY" SHIFFLETTE Captain, U. S. Marine Corps Retired 1 November 1997
Col Ding Dong Bell passed away shortly after my Dad. He was a very well respect Marine that I had the chance to meet in TX during one of the A/1/7 reunions. He, like many Marines, was a character and seem to get combat actions in Nam and Korea mixed up, my Dad would wisper to me what war he was talking about.. It was great stuff.
Capt Shiffty and I had a lot of contact as he lived an hour from my base in WV. He also is a great Marine but then again I do not know too many Marines that are not great.
That's pretty cool Frank. It must seem an honor to have known and spoke with each of them. I wonder if Capt. Shiffty got a lot of grief about his name? Probably not.
Chili, you found me LOL.... I try to see what is going on in the CBR and S2 section but that is about it. The BadWeb has lost some of its appeal for me, but the people are still the best...
I look forward to seeing you and Vamp at Homecoming. It is going to be fun and you two are going to have a great adventure...
That's really nice Frank. Being from the East coast originally and spending much time in NYC (used to live in the upper west side) I will never forget 9/11. I have a picture of the World Trade buildings on the side of my refrig.
Well, going through some old files I found a picture that a friend drew for me...
The EP3 is a Navy version of the USAF SIGINT Platform Senior Scout. While I was in Korea a Chinese fighter was messing with the EP3 as they did their mission. The mig pilot got a little cocky and actually hit the EP3 taking the nose off. (the pilot was killed and the Mig was downed) The EP3 landed the only place they could (China) the crew was held for a few days and the Chinese disected the spy plane....
Needless to say the crap hit the fan and within a week I was flying the same mission area in the Senior Scout (USAF Spy Plane and the best)... There is a lot more to the event that I cannot go in to but it is one of the highlights of my career.
Wow, I remember when that happened. We were still in a cold war stance back then. Very tricky situation. Of course there was talk about if the crew was able to scuttle the intel on board. I don't remember what or how much China may have gotten from the situation.
Ha, that is Colorado for you. I think it got down to the high 30s on Marshall Pass but I did not turn the heater on at all... Of course we have the heavy blankets and were cozy....
