I wish I woulda got a movie Charlie. I didn't wanna risk breaking up a potential $16,000 mating though so I left them alone. Took the girls up to the club today and they each made a capture of their own Ratsnakes. The youngest daughters was about 5ft and the oldest daughters was about 3ft. We then found a neonate Box Turtle and I had to give the "This is where God intended it to be" speech cause they wanted to bring it home. A few tears and 20 photos later I made them put it back under its shelter. On the way back in we rescued a juvenile Corn Snake off road so I'd say it was a very good day. Love all this rain man! It brings my scaly friends out in full force. Whatcha seing down your way thus far? (Message edited by luvthemtorts on May 26, 2010) (Message edited by luvthemtorts on May 26, 2010) |

A rare sight indeed. Over 30 years chasing reptiles and I have only been blessed enough to see a handful this size.

I rescued a 10lb snapping turtle from my driveway twice this week. I know why they're called snappers. |

Nuts, now there was a confrontation I would have liked to watch.I always preferred to carry a snapper swinging from a rather stout stick, they really don't like to let go. Jack, nice pic., I'll bet the girls had a ball...their dad too. Now I gotta go try and erase they vision of a Gila Monster smoking a marlboro from my memory. |

Nuts, I would like to see that one too. They can be a bit spunky can't they? If you have caught it twice crossing your driveway its prolly a female going to nest. Charlie, No wories buddy. The smokes were all there. They did drink all the champagne though and they are looking pretty hung over |

Tonight saw us pitted against the Patriots who was the team the girls unraveled against in my absence. I got the group together and made them watch our opponents, the whole time telling them that I want back what they gave away. We start the game with us up to bat and the first batter line drives to 3rd for a base hit. Next hitter up and we bunt which results in a runner on 1st and 2nd. My 11 year old daughter is up next and absolutely wails one into deep center field to bring in a run and leave us with runners on 1st and 2nd. Next my oldest daughter comes in and hits even deeper to bring in all runners. We then go through a series of 3 outs which was good fielding on our opponents part. They come up to bat and we never let them advance a runner past 2nd. Our turn again and we start off strong but their fielding is astounding and they manage to hold us to zero runs. They are leading off with their power hitter and dread is going through my mind but we fight hard and return the favor by holding them to zero. This time around we are in a favorable spot in our lineup and its on. Bases loaded and 2 outs and once again my little one hammers the ball very near the fence to bring in 4 for us before they shut us down. The girls are getting a little lazy now as our lead widens and gives up 3 runs far too easily but I manage to rein them back in and get the outs before anymore damage can be inflicted. The next inning was hard fought on both sides and resulted in 3 up and 3 down for each team. Final inning sees us scratch and claw for another run before they shut down our turn at bat for the evening. As they come up the tension is palpable and hanging thick in the air. I scream out "Start strong" and they scream back "Finish strong". Its over with their first four batters since my girls refused to allow another run. In the end we redeemed ourselves with a 9-3 victory and reclaimed our dignity which they took from us the first time around. I think the girls learned that there is absolutely nothing wrong with losing but everything wrong with not giving your all and giving it away. I hope they carry this lesson through the remainder of the season and with a little luck keep it with them as they go through life. All in all I'd say the Lord has blessed me with the chance and ability to work with these girls each year. I know I've complained about having to coach each year but I think I have learned from the girls and they have learned from me. As my time with the older players comes to a close I have come to realize I will miss them. I've been flooded with memories the past few days of when I first started working with them when they were 6 years old and eager to please. Nine years later and deep down through the teenage attitude I think they still really wanna make me proud of them. They have succeeded. |

Jaxson, I'm damn proud of you and your team of determined young ladies. Reading your recap of the evening and your thoughts brought a tear to my eye(just one mind you, not a boohoo) You know, you can polish the heck out of that V-Rod and buy all the fancy and sexy riding gear to impress the ladies but these young ladies are the one's that will always have a soft spot in their hearts for the "Ole Coach" that taught them how to tackle life as they grow older and move on to different challenges.Good job coach. |

Thanks Charlie! Its been a wild ride. 9 seasons, over 110 games total and less than 12 losses (gotta see how we finish this year). I've seen girls come and go but they still stop me in the grocery store so they can give Coach Jackie a hug. That made it all worth it I reckon. Now tell me all about what reptiles you've seen down there this year. |

Jack, Not much for reptiles this year, my gator still hasn't shown up.I really miss him. There's a lot of new const. very close to his access to the ponds, also the unusually cold winter may have caused him to relocate. Just don't have a clue. The only reptiles I see are the little lizards and they are everywhere. Bright green to real dark grey. Haven't done any fishing yet, but my grandson that lives in Minnesota will be here soon and then the fishing will begin. |

Man Charlie I was hoping the gator would show up. I know poaching them has some very serious reprocussions but do you reckon some a$$hat decided to kill it just to be hateful? In other news I finally got to ride today with the friend who bought the Honda Fury. 170 miles even and a total of one 30 minute pitstop for a pinch of snuff and a cream style rootbeer . The RoddyV is so much more comfortable than the Buell and it made the journey feel almost effortless. I'm placing my order for the Corbin touring seat on Tuesday and then me and the wife are gonna plan an overnighter. Prolly ride to the little town where I bought the bike, stay at a bed and breakfast and then scoot home the next day. You guys got any suggestions for a wireless communication device for rider to rider and rider to passenger? |

Good for you Jaxson, your racking up the miles. It is a smooth running machine. Haven't heard any reports on the Corbin for the V-Rod. But one thing is for sure, you take the wife for a trip with that stock seat and she'll probably ride the bus back. Don't know any first hand knowledge about wireless, just know they have them.$$ The Gator thing has me puzzled, the darn snappers are taking over the pond. Need the Gater, exterminator here to clean house. |

Congrats on the wins and the mileage Honky. The bike to bike comm stuff is like anything else. If you want it to work properly it costs $$$. It'd be much cheaper to stop every 50 miles and reminisce what you'd just experienced. You can look at Scala and Chatterbox if you are really jonesing for the tech though. |

How was the vacation Nuts? I only got this week and next week and softball is over. We still getting that fishing trip in before Summer is over? The water is nice. Went to Craigs last week and it is cold but tolerable provided the temps are above 80. Charlie, I bet even with the Corbin she rides the bus home. She ain't seen me drive this thing yet . |

Vacation was great, we had a terrific time in the Palmetto State. The new truck returned 22-23 mpg and my in-laws were in high spirits. Went out for a nature walk and were covered up in alligators. Must've been atleast 20 of 'em. There were little ones croaking and big ones with their mouths agape warming in the sun. Saw a softshell slider turtle too. But being Florida, that's all old hat. Sure is nice to be at home in the mountains though; cool temps and the welcome view of the various stages of blue these ridges get. Work all day Monday was a bit of a bummer but not too bad. We got to rescue a 250+lb dude who forgot he doesn't know how to swim. I swear I saw more prison tattoo's than professional ones on Memorial Day! With the weather reporting clear skies today I'm headed out for a ride on the motorsickle. It's been a while since I got out on my own and done some wandering. NUTS |

Nuts, Why didn't you bring Charlie a replacement gator'? You coulda shoved it right on down the briefs and no one woulda been the wiser. Give me a call if the work/wife schedule has an opening this weekend. I got Saturday and Sunday free. Next week is bad cause we are finishing up ball but after that my calendar is wide open. Charlie, She already has me insured for an insane amount. Sometimes I wonder if I need to be looking for a hitman over my shoulder |

Thanks for the kind words Charlie. I only managed 167 miles yesterday but I did see lots of wildlife including a grey fox on my circumnavigation of SML. My success resisting the urge to investigate dirt roads made for an easy clean up of the bike. While also leaving time to go cut the lawn at the old house. Honkson, I've got to work straight through the weekend but I should have regular days off of Fri Sat sometime mid-june. My route around the lake is a pretty good one with lots of chances to catch up, we need to plan to ride it sometime soon. NUTS |

I'd like to get a fishing trip in, you get the weather perfect and I'll get the time off. I'll be setting up my bow range in the next several weeks if you want to get some practice in. I find the remote control drifting toward the hunting channels a bit more often as the year ages. Would you believe we had to fish a man sized turd out of the pool yesterday? Then a girl ralphed up her strawberry shortcake and my day was done. The bosses are besides themselves with all the lightning, puke and baby-Ruth look-alikes. I told them tomorrow will be locusts. Jaxson, I just happened to ask my brother yesterday if he knew anyone who might be in the market for such an item. Give me until Tuesday if you would and I'll have an answer for you. I certainly would like to purchase the target off of you to add to my collection. How are those animals coming along anyways? Yesterday was awful, I'll be doing the rain dance all morning in hopes of precipitation to drive the maniacs away. NUTS |

No worries Nuts just let me know when you get a chance. The animals are doing well and it looks like two females are gravid. One is so heavy with eggs I'm wondering if she is gonna make it full term. I kinda figured the warm weather was gonna bring out the fruitcakes. I'm really surpised you haven't had to break up a Bubba and Jethro pugilistic exhibition |

We realized that the city pools haven't opened up yet and that might be contributing to our population issue. I'd like to keep the stabbing and shootings over on the Vinton side of town if possible. The only other exhibitions we're getting are the ones of the max weight capacity with cleavage measured by a yardstick. NUTS |
