I remember catching the lunker of the day at back creek whilst the turtlehugger was snagged in the trees. Landed a solid 4lb smallmouth and all the credit I got was "yeah right where I was going to cast." As for fishin time, I'm free thursday evening. I spent the day in the Roanoke yesterday. The other to clowns and myself climbed down the trail on the BRP by the explore park and began working our way down river looking for snakes and spiders. It wasn't too long before all three of us were being swept towards Rutrough Rd holding on to a log. Eventually one of us needed their own raft so he used an old tire on a rim. The really strange part happened when I lost my wedding ring in the river among the rapids and rocks and had my two friends collaborate to find it after I had given up hope. Close call and a great day. NUTS |

There ya go Nuts, kick the "Ole Turtle Hugger " to the curb. In a couple of years will make that a six pound Bass. And maybe he fell in the creek trying to get his line un-tangled. |

Was that the one we checked for eggs ? I have no doubts Charlie would have gotten a huge kick outta that one! Thursday it shall be my good man. I have to go too so I can prove to you once again that I am the fishing maestro. You have been weighed, you have been measured, and you've been found wanting. Take that mister . We played the dreaded South County Screamers tonight. Coming off of yesterdays practice I was scared that we were gonna have big problems. I warmed them up and then gave the girls the "We are the Lions and they are our prey" speech and we went to work. First inning saw us run a hard lead/steal game with some nice hits mixed in. 5 runs in and they take their turn at bat but we manage to hold them to 0 runs. Next inning they had wised up a bit to our steals so we started working in some fake bunts to draw the infield in and managed to get 2 runs in. They came up again and we once again held them to 0 runs. Third inning and back to the top of the batting order so we started to hit away and brought in another 5. Bring in my second string defense and they score 5 in return. Fourth inning with their third pitcher sees us bring in another 4 before they get their final defensive out of the night. Since it was the bottom of the last inning I kept my second pitcher in and she came into her own. Unfortunately my shortstop gets a big head and bobbles every play that comes her way which means 5 more for them. Final score 16-10 for us. A good spirited game but we have to work on the girls staying strong throughout the entire game. Highlight of the evening was our youngest player (my 11 year old daughter) catching a wickedly hard line drive and turning the play to 1st which resulted in a double play. Needless to say the game ball was hers Tomorrow sees us pitted against the South County Bullets which is another strong team. |

Jaxson, I'm glad when I was coaching I never ran into the likes of you. Most were either to old to care or not smart enough to see past the next two batters. |

What a beautiful night for ball. Got to Darryl Shell Park and it was in the low 80's with a nice breeze. We started warming the girls up as our opponents trickled in. With each girl I was getting more and more sick because they were all 15 and several travel players we knew. Coaches showed up and they were travel coaches as well. My girls played hard from start to finish and we managed to take home the W with a score of 15-0. I am so proud of this group of kids that I really don't know what to say anymore in the huddles at the end of the games. They had a rough start before the games and were 3 weeks behind the rest of the division but they really pulled together to form a family. Good stuff and I feel blessed to be able to be a part of it. I wish they would Charlie cause I get explosive diarrhea every time I see the other teams show up. My nerves aren't made to handle this kind of abuse . I think Nuts has abandoned me. Left him a phone message several days ago and ain't heard nothing back. I'm afraid he has given up on me. |

Well no game today so it was off on a fishing adventure. Since I can't sem to get Nuts on the phone I had to resort back to my only other friend. For something new we decided to hit the Blackwater River and wore them completely out. I caught 20 and he caught 18. Ran outta bait and made a mad dash all the way back to Roanoke for more minnows and managed to hit the river close to home for 2 hours. We caught a combined total of over 50 Smallmouth today! Another day to count my blessings. Game tomorrow against North Roanoke Red Sox. They are usually very strong so another night of worry. |

It was a mess. Took 3 innings to get them back to looking like true ball players after my absence on Saturday. We went into the fifth inning trailing 3-7. I ran every scheme in the book and got them up to 6-7 with only one out. My batter goes up and the bases are loaded. I tell her show a bunt and then pull back. She gets it in her head that she is gonna drive the runners home and swings away. Pop fly to shortstop and an out on 3 and we were done for the evening. Don't worry I didn't beat the poor girl but I was a bit upset and gave them the lecture about listening because I am thinking 5 steps ahead of them. Moral of this story is I can't miss another game cause they don't have the motivation to play to their ability when I'm not there. The bike will be coming out next week Lord willing. |

Thanks Charlie. I think the loss will do them some good and get their heads out of the clouds. The umpire stopped in the middle of the 3rd and said "What are you guys doing? If you were playing like I've seen you do they wouldn't have a prayer". I thought that was somewhat unprofessional as the other team deserved their win. He said the other teams in our division have mentioned they are somewhat afraid of us. I wish he would have kept all that to himself or waited until the girls weren't around because I fear that the girls will continue to think they are superstars. |

Nuts, The river is pretty funky from the rain but fishable as of 7:30pm. Don't know if it is gonna get worse since it is raining around us and supposed to here in the Valley later on. I guess go ahead and do what you were gonna do and we can try again in a few days. I don't want you to miss out on what you guys had planned and the river be a mess. I'm free Saturday if your not busy. Just let me know. |

Let me know what's goin on, I lead a boring pathetic life....I only have a litte excitement once a month, couple hours of racing and it's back to my rocking chair. |

We are still hanging in there Charlie. Had the one incident wherethe girls fell apart at the seams as reported above but they recovered well and have stayed on track. Got 8 more scheduled games for the season and may decide to do the state tournament since they have worked so hard and this is their last year together. Next game is tomorrow so I'll post up a report when I get home. In other news a friend of mine is curently in negotiations out at Star City Powersports for a 2010 Honda Fury. Nice looking bike but something very odd about a shaft driven chopper . Last bike he owned was a Honda CB450 back in 79'. Gonna be a steep learning curve but hopefully a safe one. Nuts is still alive and well I'm happy to report. He's been busy saving lives at the local pool and waiting impatiently for the grass to grow so he can fire up the new lawn mower. Never seen someone so excited to mow a lawn |

Glad to hear the team is still get'n it done. Look forward to your inning by inning recaps. Glad Nuts is still adapting to urban life and his neighbors haven't run him out of the community. As for cutting the grass.........well it has a motor and he's a motorized maniac. So as long as he doesn't take out the neighbors fence or rose bushes, he'll probably stay in their good graces. |

Went with my friend to get his bike tonight up in Christiansburg. He has to go back tomorrow because someone wasn't there to inspect it. Can you believe he's gotta ride all the way back up there over a $10.00 sticker? Anyways, if the roads dry up I'll probably follow him around some this weekend to make sure he keeps that long front end tucked underneath him. Heaven help him if he touches that front brake when he hits his gravel driveway Incidently, the dealer is going to be offering the Triumph line starting in June. Looks like I'll get that test ride of the 675 afterall (Message edited by luvthemtorts on May 18, 2010) |

Here we go. I think the only day you can get your bike out this week will be Thursday. That's my double lawn day and I am excited. I spent the day out yesterday adventuring with the-raven. Lots of critters out of the amphibian sort. He caught a garter snake up on the slope that was nice enough to poo all over him. Our group expanded to 7 without our control and we made sure to leave an impression they won't soon forget. Without going into details we had a husband/wife couple who went swimming several times unintentionally. A couple of serious falls onto rocks by another member. Plenty of poison ivy/oak/nettle exposure to the 4 irregulars too. I'm pretty wasted today with soreness everywhere and a bruised heel from running the last two miles of trail in my hiking boots. So it's ibuprofen and off to work at 10am. It sure is tough being the old man of the group. NUTS |

Nuts, old man of the group, please, I've got socks older than you. I was in Roanoke last weekend and got to see "the raven" and Zack, Travis and the rest of some old friends. Didn't know I was going till the last minute. Got to eat at the North Star Rest.(5 times) before having to leave. All that sure makes a fellow home sick. So, if your passing up riding your bike to cut the grass, must be some kind of souped up riding mower you got under wraps. How about a pic. so we can get a look at this new passion of yours. |

That Stinging Nettle is the bomb ain't it Nuts ? Gives me cold chills just thinking about getting a stem of it across the forearm. Now give me an amphibian checklist my good man. Charlie, Our pal Nuts got him one of those super duper, self propelled, high end walk behind mowers that you can put the little platform on and have it pull you around. I think I may have to go watch this thing in action tomorrow as I'm sure he uses it in a manner that it was never intended to be used . |

Well the rain let up so Roanoke County chalked the fields and let us do battle. We showed up after a 4 day hiatus and looked HORRIBLE warming up. Throws all over the places and catches being few and far between. After 20 minutes the girls seemed to knock the rust off and come together. We huttle up and I proceed to give them the "We have come to chew bubble gum and kick butt and we're all out of bubblegum" speech and the game begins. First inning and we head up to bat. 3 up 3 down and its their turn at bat. In the blink of an eye they managed to bring in 2 runs which took my girls by complete surpise. We managed to hold them there and get the 3 outs before they can score again. A quick huttle and a call to arms sees us score 5 runs using strong batting, smart steals and frustrating our opponents. Their turn at bat and we shut them down in a hurry. Back up to the top of our order and on a roll we bring in another 5 and exit the field to prepare to defend our lead. As luch would have it they are at their 2nd batting position which means we have to defend their power hitter and cleanup batter. They manage to score 4 before we shut them down. The innings have ran long so we take our last turn at bat and bring in 3 more to seal the win before they get us out so I bring in my outfield to play base positions fully expecting the other team to score 5. I stood there with jaw agape and a stare of amazement as my least experienced players held this mighty team to only 1 run before we put them away for the evening. Final score 13-7 and I am proud of all my girls. They gave me everything they had and left it all out on the field. It was one of those nights that a coach can reflect on in 20 years and smile as the memories of a hard fought game come flooding back |

Jaxson, sounds like another stellar win. Reading your recap had me thinking it was a nail bitter, then looking at the final score makes me wonder if it really wasn't a blow-out. I think you missed your calling.....should have pursued a career in radio sports casting. If it had gone extra innings I might have ran out of fingernails. Good job |

Charlie, It was actually a tense game because it could have went either way until the last inning when we laid down the final runs. If you woulda told a brutha' you was coming to town I coulda put together an exhibition for you but NO, Charlie doesn't tell his long lost buddies he's coming . Nuts, I'm wondering if fate is trying to tell me something. First I find out that there will be a Triumph dealer in Christiansburg and then I meet a guy today riding one. I was sitting at a stoplight and a Triumph Speed Triple pulls up in my lane directly beside me and starts giving me the thumbs up and talking. I couldn't hear a damn thing he was saying cause of the Ipod but he seemed to be nice enough so we rode a bit until we parted ways. In hindsight I guess I shoulda pulled over somewhere and got his name since he seemed to enjoy my kind of riding. It was a good looking bike for sure. |

Honkson, I appreciate the invite and I should've taken you up on it. Instead I spent an hour cutting the lawn and two more retreiving the mower from the creek. It started off innocently by getting it stuck in the mud next to the creek. I got the truck and tow strap and managed to pull it into the creek. Re-arranged the strap and was able to flip it upside down with another tug from the truck. $4k in orange mower, upside-down in the creek in my front yard, spewing oil into the water. Finally a neighbor stopped and assisted me to right it and drag it out. I should've just gone riding. Now the interior of my week old pickup truck is covered in mud and grease. I've still got to cut the other half of the lawn today and the old house too. Plus, Charlie was in town and didn't utter a peep. Dude was here and vanished like a fart in the wind. Whodathunkit? Sorry guys, I was just mom ma's chauffeur, kinda like driving Miss Daisy. But his cap was cooler than mine.I got to run to the Harley shop and North Star and the rest of the time I was on call. Nuts don't know how you handle your supercharged life, I would need a Valium just to go to bed at night.Don't you have a little push mower for trimming? Jack, would love to watch your team in action, but just didn't have the time. We have a Triumph dealer down here, I like the looks of that Speed Triple, but haven't been able to wrangle a test ride, guess I was drooling too much. I think we need to drive a big stake in the middle of Nut's yard and hook him and the mower to it to keep him away from the creek. It's kinda like the moth and the flame deal. |

We really gotta get a ride in or do some fishing so we can catch up on current events and swap lines from Blazin' Saddles. Charlie, I'm gonna forgive you this time cause I'm like that.
