Well, I do have nearly 47,000 miles on my 2008 Buell 1125R... I was told on Friday by a local independent tech that I go through belts about as often as chained bikes need their chains replaced. And we both agreed that a broken belt has far less potential to damage other things such as engine case, swingarm, leg, etc. |

Butttt.... you can fix a chain on the road and keep on keepin' on. A belt? |

Yes, you can replace a belt on the side of the road with only a few tools, mostly within the onboard kit as documented here by Zac4mac: Emergency Belt Abused belt is ON! Test continues... Abused belt - update |

I am at Duanes this evening and we are snicking over the chain/belt debate. Chains on the trumpets. I replaced the chain on my speed 3 at 23,000 miles and the sprint at almost 24,000. Debs bike has over 20,000 and shows no signs of wear. Duane has his Daytona 15,000 and no signs of wear. I am replacing the ktm chain at 16,000 miles due to dirt riding. I am not really dissing belts and can see the certain advantages. New chain technology is amazing. X ring chains are excellent. I personally just think that belts don't give you any warning when there going to brake. Thats a major let down before a trip especially when you have to order a belt. Stepping off the soap box now. Chris probly has the best setup on his BMW ..........unless it brakes....$$$$ Oh hell, I'll catch hell for that on too. |

Waiting for the Mojo lever http://home.comcast.net/~prestondrake/mojoweb.htm to get here and try my tire changer. This economy makes it fun to be cheap! Bob |
