Yeah... LOL. I mentioned it to my wife and the response was luke warm. I doubt she'll go with me and she'll be hounding me about spending the money and taking time off. Speaking of which... I better look at what I can get. |

After June and I will most likely be able to do this one as well. Vacation resets then. |

What do you have left now? You might be able to swing something with RDOs and personal days. |

Uh... 4 hours and 2 Personal days. After June 30 I'll have 10 days and 2 Personal days. |

If you save two personal days for April, you could do it. One Personal and two RDOs back to back would be six days off. Plenty. |

Hmm... Perhaps. How would this play into my current asking of a weekend off every month? |

I was talking to one of my guys (works for me ) who has done IBA rides... The speed and timing restrictions are strictly enforced. You have to show that you hit waypoints by documenting start, finish, odometer readings, and time. The IBA guys plug all of your data into their computer and validate your trip. If you are found to be under the time/speed expected for any leg of the trip you are disqualified. The proof is usually receipts for your gas stop at a particular town and/or affidavits signed by folks along the way. That means you have to do the speed limit...unless...You game the system by hauling arse (Buell style) and then killing time at a waypoint before you get any receipts or written/signed proof. In any case, speed is not encouraged and could disqualify you. There is time built into the trip for short breaks and gas. However, it is NOT just about making the trip under the overall time limit. Its all about time management throughout the trip. For some (like myself) this would be the big challenge. I have no desire to manage time that closely when I ride. |

Based on the IBA guy I know... if you exceed the speed limit for any leg of travel, you get disqualified - unless you game the system. Otherwise, making the basic qualification of 1000mi in 24hours is a piece of cake at "Buell pace." |

Ed, you couldn't do that April trip anyway. There's a race that weekend and you already planned on doing it. Nick, I guess I'm a little surprised that they are so strict about speed. I know it's not about hauling a$$ across the country, but they gotta know that you're going to exceed it a bit. I did my calculations based on miles needed to cover and estimating 70mph and it definitely leaves you plenty of time to be stopped. I read through the rules and while it didn't say "Don't Speed" it did say that you had to validate all your times/mileage. |

When are you guys planning on doing this? Averaging 70MPH is absolutely hauling ass. Long trips we've done almost always average out at 50-55mph when we run 70-80 most of the time and stop for gas, food, etc. Think about it- if you're going 60 for and hour and go 60 miles, then you stop for 15 minutes. You've just gone 60 miles in 75 minutes. What is that, an average of about 48 MPH? Time management is the name of the game. PM me and let me know when you're thinking of going- always wanted to do an IB ride. |

Well, I originally was planning to do a coast to coast in 50 hours from San Diego to Jacksonville. I still might. My wife has to be in San Diego for a week anyway in late June, so maybe at the end of that, I'll take off to Florida. Anyway, then Frank and I started talking about going to April Buell's Day in North Georgia not far from Deal's Gap. That's well over a thousand miles from here. There is a 1000 mile Iron Butt you can do (in 24 hours) and so we talked about that. You are more than welcome to come along on any or all of those. In fact, it would be more fun with company. |

I would go, but I believe the first race of the season is that weekend. |

Unfortunately, I couldn't sync up our days off this week at all. And it's going to be nice out, too. I don't even think I could bail early on Friday because it's relatively busy. Maybe when it peters out next week. Also, the week of the 13th thru the 21st, my sister is here so I'm taking off. May be able to get a couple rides in that week. |

Ed, these are the panniers I was telling you about. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54 9028&highlight=aluminum+panniers I could see myself getting something like this. Actually, since you don't see it too often, I could see myself getting some and getting them painted or anodized black. |

Interesting. They look pretty good. Anodized black wouldn't be bad, or maybe dark grey. |

Got my 1K service today. With my "15% off parts and labor" it came to $322. I got them to replace the plugs for free. Scott said they really weren't that bad. He flashed the ECM again with another update and reset the TPS. It ran really good on the way home. I switched it over to Syn3. I've really liked using synthetic oil on my Firebolt, so I'm hoping this makes this one a bit better too. I could already tell that it had a bit more responsiveness and power on the way home. Not sure if that's the flash, the plugs, or some combination, or what. |

Really? That's starting to be an epidemic. Angela and Anthony both said they called me on Monday and I never showed a missed call. Same on Saturday. Not that I could have ridden anyway because I was doing chores out the ying-yang. Thursday won't work either because we're all going to the zoo. And I run at 6pm. We'll have to see what other day we can get together. When is your race weekend? |

24th and 25th of April. Track day it the 24th and races are the 25th. You should come to the track, it'll be good fun and you know it. |

I'm going away that weekend. Since going to Georgia seems to far and expensive, and requires way more time off, I'm just going to go to Arizona for the SpringFast ride. |

Finally, got some a lot of track time with the new bike. We headed over to Willcox, AZ for TI2TT's track days. I was control riding along with Troy and Shana. I rode over 400 miles those two days. Dang, I love the new bike.

So, are the control riders supposed to wear their reflective vests? I wondered about that looking at your facebook photos. |
