Rasmonis how strong was your password? how many caps, numbers symbols you can PM me I'm curious. Everybody who got the e-mails from Ras and Peter Hackers should start changing their passwords randomly a lot right now to keep from getting hacked. |

I changed my password immediately after realizing Pete's email was a scam. It was strong, Caps, lowers, numbers and mixed characters. I changed it again yesterday and deleted all my mail and contacts. Not sure how they got in. I haven't seen any suspicious activity on my account since yesterday 8:02-05 am. |

damn I did the same and deleted all of the contacts after I printed them off on hard paper. So if they hack into my account they will have nothing. Wished those people would get a life. On the sunny side IT'S SPRING and I'm riding anywhere but to work! I'll be up in western Carrol County today on the ULY |

Well, the ones who hit my account sent a new mail from 'my' account after I closed it! So then took my info and created a new account.. Since finding 'help' at Hotmail/microsoft seems almost impossible, I sent them another 'comment' message telling them about it.. I'd gotten a new 'ad' from them on one of my other accounts.. LOL! Idiots didn't even know they were sending me mail from my account.. so be careful, it could pop up again without you even being aware... In a couple hours though.. I'm gonna have the 1125 fired up and try rolling around for a little.. Should be good therapy for what ails me.. I think.. Any one else gonna be out and about? |

Sunday is going to be my day for the Uly. I've been hanging out in the countryside of VA with the family. You wouldn't believe how many Hogs were out today...definitely not bad weather bikers. My Harley is actually having battery troubles. I need to post this to another forum, but basically when I try to start it it cranks and cranks and almost starts but the positive post and wire of the battery get so hot that they start to smoke. I'm afraid I might have fried the positive post of the battery, or at least the wire. Ugh. Any thoughts? The battery is fully charged and tended, but it had gone for a few weeks without running. |

Hooper, I would clean the connection from the battery to starter and the ground from battery and frame. After I would check for spark and fuel. |

Well I got out today for a short ride but it wasn't a smooth start to the 2010 riding season. The charging issues I thought I resolved last year with a new stator and fresh battery didn't payoff. I really don't get it. I had the bike stored on the basement all winter with a quality Deltran battery tender on it, but I had to jump start it. I know after I installed the stator I was getting 14+ volts back to the battery. Can anyone recommend a reliable, honest shop that does quality work? I refuse to give HD any of my business. I would trouble shoot it myself if I had the time. At this point I'm willing to cut a check and be done with it. |

Tony, check your voltage regulator before you take it anywhere. |

Tony, you can check all of the connections at the battery ,I mean disconnect at battery and clean ,same with ground to frame and starter. I use electrical contact cleaner and dielectric grease. also connections at voltage regulator. As far as taking it to a shop, I would guess Battleys or Fredneck or perhaps OG. Kathy always recommends B-mo and so does Brian. |

Sorry I missed you guys today on the ride out of Bowie. I have been on the 1125R all week and this weekend. I did do a very spirited pre-run for you guys yesterday on Pax River Rd and a couple of other roads on the way to Annapolis. Will get up with you guys soon to ride. |

Thanks Lars and Ramon! Maybe I will break out the multi-tester and put a little time into trouble shooting. A last resort will be Battleys. I'm thinking the battery is toasted again. The charger was connected directly to it and the charge light was a steady green all winter. I think it's just not putting out enough cranking amps to turn the motor over fast enough. Regulator should be good since I was getting a steady 14+ to the battery after the stator install. It's sitting over at my parents house so I don't have to deal with motorcrossing it through my backyard after days of down pours. It was quite an operation getting it over there. Drove the car over with my new carbon fiber road bike(lov'n it) on the roof, left the bike, drove home and got the Buell and rode it to the parents, then road the new bicycle back to the house. |

AlloyPony... Are you the guy I meet on Main St, Newark on Thursday evening? Good to see you found the website. Lets go for a ride sometime. Hooper... I had the same thing happen to me on Wednesday morning when I was going to take the bike to work (actually got hot enough to melt some of the terminal). I took the battery out, charged it, cleaned it, put it back in, checked the ground and cleanliness of the connections and reinstalled it. I've been riding problem free ever since then. It stays outside. I think moister buildup caused the positive to ground. Just a theory. |

Bizarre...I went outside tonight to clean the connections on my Harley, and ended up just re-tightening the battery wires. Bang. It fired up in one go. Bizarre. I guess it was ready for spring and was jealous of the road time the Buell was getting. Thanks for all the tips... |

I went out to my bike last night to go home from work, I turned the key and no reaction at all. No needles pinging, no lights, no noise. I came in today with tools to research with but the bike fired right up. Anyone know what that is about? |

For the intermittent-loose battery connections, use star washers between every layer (can't use loctite, it insulates). Put a star washer between the terminal and the first connection (i.e. tender wire), between the first connection and the second (tender wire and heated gear wire), between the second connection and the third (heat wire and main chassis wire), and between the bolt head and third connection. That locks everything in place nice and tight. I went through that with my S2. Ras - I also got one of your "I was robbed at gunpoint" emails...glad you made it home safe Tony - if you need a hand with anything, drop me a note. I'm not @ HDF anymore but I'll be glad to lend a hand or a tool if you need it. One thing to check is, does your tender/charger have a "float" mode? Or does it charge all the time? If it doesn't have "float", it could literally overcharge/cook the battery. I use Battery Tender Jr. models on our bikes here, they have the float mode, which is an internal sensor that tells it when the battery is "full", and it will cease charging until the sensor tells it "I need juice again", then it goes into charge mode again automatically. |

....oh, and if anyone in Baltimore (Baltimorian? Baltimoron? Never was sure about that....lol) sees a MD Motorcycle Direct Insurance TV ad with a Uly and an ugly lanky guy with it...I have no idea what the hell happened I got snagged by Johnny-O and his "Renegade TV" dealio yesterday and we spent the day working with this ad and a couple quick "Renegade TV" legal ID's - me/Uly, a guy with an Ultra, a guy with a Charm City Custom (pretty decent build quality, nowhere near my style but I was impressed), and a guy on a Duc 848. And some eye-candy-chick who wasn't familiar with the "underwear" concept An entertaining day, to say the least. And a good reminder of how much I **HATEHATEHATE** 695 at PM rush. grrrrr. |

Joe, I may break the shop manual and the tools out this weekend and look the bike over if I have time. My charger does have a mode where it scales back the charge to just keep the battery topped off. This is the model I have http://www.kneedraggers.com/details/Deltran_Batter y_Tender_Plus_12_Volt--56-DELTRAN-0210128.html . I appreciate the offer to give me a hand and I may just take you up on it. A second pair of eye and another person thinking through the problem always makes it easier. |

A more detailed description of my bike problem: I put the key in and turn it, the needles peg and the lights come on. I flip the kill switch, the motor light goes out in a few seconds. I push the starter button and for less than a second the starter gives an effort and then the electrical system fails and the bike is as dead as having no battery attached. I had this happen the time I previously posted then rode it all around all day yesterday, starting and stopping the bike on occasion. I went out to hop on it this morning and same thing happened as I described above. I came home from a four hour stint at work and tried again and yet again it was electrically alive until I pushed the starter. Whatever is happening is 'resetting' itself after a certain amount of time. Can relays 'reset'? Does this change anyone's opinion as to what might be wrong? Thanks for the thoughts so far. |

Puc_It check the starter relays. You can probably pull them and look at the pins. On mine that plastic around the middle pin was melted and it smelled burnt. Sometimes you can wiggle it enough to get it started. |
