I hope to meet some of these new people this Thursday! Bruce, you think you could shoot a group email out to everyone, just reminding them of the meeting? I'd do it, but I know a handful of folks have joined since I got the email list. |

I was looking at Samantha (2005 SB9Sx) and she is sad and lonely in the garage. I cannot wait for the first 60 degree day. |

Took her out for the first time in 2010 today - ahhhh, that felt great! Until I remembered...damn, I need tires. I don't think it's such a good idea to ride on the actual steel belt, is? DOH! :-p
So I put just over 7,000 miles on the stock Pirelli Diablo T tires. I really didn't have any problems with them until after a trip down to the Dragon last summer. After that trip it seemed that the rear tire wasn't quite round any more. I'm thinking the flat, straight up highway took a toll on the tires. I'm considering a dual-compound now...in particular, the Michelin Pilot Road 2. Anyone have any thoughts/suggestions? Stick with the Diablo's, go with the Pilot's, or perhaps look at something else? And yes, I've looked through the archives but just thought I'd get some opinions from our own group. For my 2008 XB12Ss by the way. |

I have Pilot Power 2CT. This is also a great tire. Dual compound, good durability, and great grip. |

After doing even more research I'm split between the dual-compound Pilot Road 2 and the Pirelli Rosso. The PR2 seems like it's a really good compromise between longevity (people are getting 10,000 miles or so) and performance. Some people have complained about a slight slippery feel where the compounds come together in a lean though. On the other hand, the Rosso gets about half the miles but raves about it's "stickiness" has me thinking seriously about it. hmmm...decisions, decisions...although I'm leaning towards the PR2. |

I'm impressed you got 7k on the Pirelli OEM tires. I had to change out at 3800 on the R. You need to ride harder! Actually, I got a major flat spot like you did which was leading to a lot of instability once I got back in the twisties. So, I switched to the Pilot Power 2CT to see if I could squeeze out some more mileage. I have to be honest, I like the grip on the Pirelli Corsa IIIs better. The PP2CT is a very good tire no doubt, but I think I will move it over to the FZ6R and go back to the stock tire. (More info at http://mccarthymotorsports.blogspot.com/2009/12/ti res.html) I have Diablo Supercorsas on the Daytona 675 and they are awesome for stick. Downside...not so good on wet surfaces. Thanks for the input Brian. Given that this was my first 7,000 miles ever on a bike, I was taking it relatively easy the first year. Then I hit the Dragon and the BRP and...well, no more chicken strips! haha I have a couple months before I buy tires (saving my nickels and dimes) but right now I'm leaning towards the Michelin...either the PR2 or the PP2. |
