OK, here ya go all you great guys riding and trying to get something together here in the great state of Utah. We need to help each other now that our one and only Buell dealer in S.Valley is gone completely away from Buell to HD only.

Bob Thompson here in Riverdale along with many Buellers who have stayed anonymous for so long. Lets here from you. Name(pseudo name), where you're at and what you ride.

Hope this thread continues at least for a while. Maybe a good time of the year for internet conversation. Stay safe out there, Bob

Thanks for starting a new thread Bob. I've copied and pasted a bit from the other thread, so sorry if there's duplication.

You can call me Mike, Bugs, Bug, or littlebuggles (it's a nickname that goes way back). My bike Started life as a 2000 M2, I've since made some mods, mostly to the chassis and cosmetic changes, only stage one stuff to the motor. I'ts all pretty well chronicled in my profile.

I am disheartened by the Salt Lake Dealerships closing their Buell sales line. Les advised me at the moment they cannot do warranty work but are trying to get that put back on line. They still have the same people working there, it's just a paperwork thing. Kelly is pretty good people at the parts counter, if anyone has trouble with him they probably deserve it. Scott in the shop had raced Buells for years and did well on the track and is a good mechanic, I trust him with my bike.

So it's time for Utah Buellers to pull together and offer each other whatever tools, garage space, mechanical skills, and shop lights to help keep each other on the road...

Russ you've gone the rounds with that motor and tranny, Bob is familiar with the M2 and now the 1125, we've got some dudes who know the XB's. I keep a lot of the old bike data bouncing around in my head(usually have the paperwork to refresh it too if needed, I'm more familiar with the tube frames than the others but love the bikes and the science so read what I can on them).

I've got room in the garage to work on a bike and a decent collection of basic tools, front and rear wheel lifts and good lighting, so if someone needs a place and tools to work on their bike they can call me and we'll make it work out. Also in my collection is a XB manual on the 'puter and M2 parts and service books.

I don't have a headstock lift or a overhead winch so pulling forks and steering head bearings and that sort of service will need some other accommodation. I'm in Murray, right off the freeway and reasonably easy to find with directions.

I work graveyards so am usually up by 3pm to get my girl from school and she's a pretty good shop helper.

It's probably time we got a club or "support group" of sorts together and keep our bikes on the rolling, and maybe even go for a ride every now and then.

-Mike

I think you guys are off to a great start. Just to give you an idea of what I did to get the word out about the Colorado Buell Riders, I posted on craigslist and I also carry CBR cads with the URL on it to give to other people I see on Buells.

Last year, in Aug, the Denver Thunder Club and the NM group did a three day ride and one day was spent in Gateway Colorado which is close to Moab. Imagine the shock of a lone S3 rider when he ran into 10 Buells in the parking lot of the resort LOL.

Maybe next year if you guys are up to it we can get together. I will post here when the next Buell Rally is in this area.

I looking forward to seeing some activity on this thread.

Frank

Thanks much Frank. The card idea sounds great. I'll work on that soon.

A get together next year sounds really good also. Looks like we're both into just short warmup rides now that 'ol man winter is knocking on our doorstep.

Like you I hope this does have some interest. I guess we'll see where it goes. The last Utah thread here in Storm Fronts did not have much success. Many of us here just ride in small groups or alone. And not all that many on Buells here anyways. Market wise probably why SV HD/Buell dropped Buell. But I'll stay positive. Bob

Bob, same thing here. Although we may have more Buell riders most are not interested in hanging out or riding with other Buellers. Like many places, Harleys are many and most people on a Buell are on it until they can afford a Harley. I am backwards, I had 25 years on Harleys then switched to Buell.

To each his own. I have met some great people in Colorado and NM through different Buell group activities.

The weather man said 60 degrees today but it was 20 when I got up, 21 four hours later and now it is 23. Looks like I will not be doing any riding today LOL.

I found Gateway Colorado through another Buell ride and Lynn and I fell in love with that resort. We usually head out there in May for a weekend getaway since it is warmer on the Western Slope.

The only way to make people aware of the Utah thread is to advertise. I am sure there are many Buell riders in Utah. It is a get location. If you come up with a logo maybe that will help as well.

Blake is very accommodating to the Storm Front groups and helped out group out by making the thread a sticky thread and attaching out logo to it.

You can also add it to the official Buell site with a link to this thread for free.

I'm still here Bob, and I'm still in Layton.
Any idea how Wolfcreek pass is looking? Supposed to be nice the weekend of the 17th-18th.

Brandon, glad your still around. I think I will reserve what Wolf creek will be until after this upcoming storm is over. Might just be some snow up there but will hopefully be gone by then anyways. Hows the XB's running?

Both are running pretty good. I'm not happy about having to return the '08 to stock, but nothing I can do about it. Sunday I ran big cottonwood, the Alpine loop and up to Sundance. There were 22 bikes. Only 4 of us were sportbikes though. We're definitely going to take advantage of the coming weekend. I will call Kendrick and 1 other to see if they want to alter their plans a bit. I'm sure they will.

Brandon, got your pm, have posted on the "ride on the 26th" thread about maybe (hopefully probably) riding to the factory... wondering if anyone from Utah can swing it. Prolly hook up with F_skinner and Zac4mac in CO on the way out. Will drive if I think my body can't handle the ride, my car has Buell stickers on it at least...

I'll call you Sunday morning regarding the ride on the 18th.

Mike and Brandon, how was your ride Sunday? I just did a short one up here of about two hours with a stop for coffee. I'll be looking forward to riding with you guys at least next year. Almost done for this year except for some short "warm up rides" with thermals on.

I would love to do the 26th ride but I afraid I can only be there in spirit. I really hope it matters. Should be great fun showing all our support for a great bike and great man.

If you do go Mike be sure to give a "hello" to Zac for me and be safe even if you go by car. Keep me posted. Bob

Sorry I didn't get to meet you Bob, I will be happy to pass on your greeting to Zac if I have that opportunity.

The ride Sunday was great for me, it was nice to meet Brandon and his friends and I really appreciated him bringing me along. He had to call me a few times to work out the details so it was really cool of him to put in the effort there. So we ran up Big Cottonwood and he and his boys set a fun pace. The curves were free of the leaves and twigs the deputies at the 7-11 warned of, but there was a fair bit of slow moving traffic. I don't do groups rides very, uh, well ever actually so it was nice to ride with others on sport bikes and enjoy the diversity of sound.

Brandon's trip report would be much longer than mine as it sounds like they ran the whole Wasatch Back before meeting me!

My bike's issues turned out to be only one small problem that was easily resolved prior to the ride, just a bad hose clamp on the pump end of the oil return line instead of a blown shock and the several clamps I suspected.

My wife and daughter met me at the bottom of the canyon, so I waved goodbye to the guys then parked the bike and drove up the canyon with the girls to see the colors and enjoy a brief hike around the Hidden Falls area.

For the 26th, it looks promising as far as getting the time off. Will need to work quickly on the details with my wife to decide on the trip. I Don't think the ride is necessary considering some of the other developments taking place, but would love to join in with all the other Buellers in a big "group hug" for Eric and the Elves.

Mike, thanks for the update on your ride. I too do not ride in groups very much. Its usually just myself or my son Mike and I. He is on a Suzuki SV1000 as we are both avid sport riders. It becomes his youth against my age, experience and H.P. It goes either way when we turn up the wick, albeit carefully and within our relative experience and only in areas where its sensibly practical.

We did however really enjoy a couple of rides with Brandon and his friend Kensick.

If you do not do the ride to the factory on the 26th I will understand. Family and work should take presidence. If you do, have fun, be careful and dress warm, its cold back east. Later, Bob

I haven't left the house all day. However, I passed Kendrick yesterday in my car. It looked like he was heading for the loop. I went straight home, grabbed the bike, and caught him at the top. I win!!! Haha... anyway, I refuse to believe the season is over yet. How was Weber canyon? It was pretty wet last night.

Brandon, Weber canyon was dry but you could see some dampness. Grip was good and Trappers and the rest was great! Didn't leave here until 11:30 so temps. were good. I agree riding is not over until there is snow on the roads. Hope all is well with you. Bob

Anyone considering Homecoming 2010? I'm negotiating with Sarah (the mrs) and trying to make some general plans for it.

It's a long trip so I'm considering getting a light trailer of some sort set up...

Mike, for sure now is the time to start talking about it and doing some tentative planning. My son Mike,(my riding partner),and I have talked about a small trailer to do distant riding weekends, like up to Idaho, down to Cedar city, etc. We would not like to ride all that way on the interstate but do the canyons in those different areas and motel it to rest at night. If we were to get a trailer I would think very seriously about homecoming 2010. I've never been to the factory so it would really be nice.

My wife and I do make a fishing trip to Minnesota every year in Sept. so we'd have to do some serious budgeting for another trip to homecoming but I like the idea.

I guess we will have to see how everything works out with BMC and all of us Buell riders. A lot of interest starting already though.

A small group trip from here to represent Utah would really be nice. Good thought. Bob

Thanks Bob! I've not ridden my bike in what seems like forever! I guess it's time to put a little Sta-bil in the tank.

Salt Lake is on the map as a servicing dealership now. No idea if South Valley is wrapped into that or just the SLC store.

Mike, good to see you are still checking here occasionally. I thought everybody was hibernating. Good point on the Sta-Bil, I've got some in all my engines for the winter and for years never had a problem with springtime fireups.

Also glad to hear SLC HD is a servicing dealership and probably OK for our M2's but I think I would be concerned with my 1125. Just not enough experience with any HD dealers, with few exceptions, but not here. SV HD did not even know that our tubers tensioned belts differently then hogs. I will continue to do all my own service.

By the way, if you ever have the need for a stock ECM or muffler I have one of each left over as I went to the race version ECM and my own exhaust. Free for the asking. Stay safe and enjoy the holidays. Bob

Bought a dinner reservation for Homecoming. My wife has a conference that same week so we've got to figure things out, but she is also supportive of me going, so we'll see.

I also have a truck now so may ride or transport the bike out there, not sure yet.

Hey guys! I just picked up (stole is more like it) an '09 1125R. I used to have a '99 S3T and ran it for 7-8 years then got a VROD. When the sad news about Buell came out and I heard about the great deals I knew I had to get another one.
I'm up in Ogden and once the weather gets better, I'd love to meet up with some of y'all and check out the lower Wasatch canyons! I'll be checking in here fairly regularly to see what's going on. I'm all for having some sort of more organized group...not for the structure of it, but for having "like minded" folks to ride with. It's not the destination, it's the road, etc, etc...you know...

Kerri, welcome to our little part of the Buell world. We started this site up again after a long absence to give any kind of support to other Buell riders now that we are lacking any dealer support. I live in Riverdale near the old Cinedome theaters so we are probably close. Brendon is also close. Most Sundays when the weather is good we north side riders meet at the Old Farm Sinclair station in Mountain Green to BS and plan our ride. Many really nice rides around here and toward SLC. I'm sure we'll also post upcoming rides here also. Welcome again and stay safe until we ride again. Bob(the old guy)

Well according to the bike finder, South Valley has five '08 1125R's still so if Bob want's one they should be able to offer him a great price with all of the current dealer incentives.

Bob can have any choice of color as long as it's black.

Kerri, have you been able to buy and get your new 1125 home yet? How about your friend Bob?

Anyway, its never too early to begin thinking about our upcoming season. Below is a link to a great website for some great riding for exactly what our bikes are about here in the west. Enjoy and LETS RIDE EVERYBODY! Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year to all. Bob T.
