Dragon III April 16-18, 2010 Come ride The Dragon, The Cherohala Skyway, Hellbender 28, (and other roads). We will be staying at the Ironhorse Campground www.ironhorsenc.com Everyone welcome Harley-Davidson may be able to stop Buell from making the world's greatest handling motorcycle, but they can't stop Buell riders from owning the corners. Keep the spirit of Buell alive!!! |

Well, looks like this thread went nowhere.... but that's ok... as much as I want to go to the Dragon, I don't think its going anywhere, and homecoming... well, that seems like the one not to miss this year. (Message edited by TwoWheelDream on January 09, 2010) |

This is going to be a great time. I believe there are 10 of us going so far. The Dragon is only one small part of an incredible area of roads in any direction. Plus Ironhorse lodge makes for a good place to hang out, eat and swap stories every night. See ya there. |

Sorry you feel that way Twowheeldream. This event has gotten a great response on other Buell forums (as well as here) and it looks like there will be a good crowd coming here to the Gap. I look forward to meeting y'all. Don't get me wrong, I'm 100% for Homecoming, and had a GREAT time there in '08, but The Dragon is 318 curves in 11 miles while southern Wisconsin has 318 bumps and potholes in 11 miles. |

Important Update How do you guys feel about moving this Buell gathering to a different, more convenient location? The Deal's Gap Motorcycle Resort www.dealsgap.com. Mrs. Dragonslayer and I spoke with MG (one of the managers) and he showed us their books for that weekend. They are booked up the weekend before and after, but have as much as 11 standard rooms the weekend we'll be there, as well as plenty of room for camping. http://www.dealsgap.com/motel.htm The Iron Horse, (God bless 'em), is a good place but there was a few things that I didn't feel was right. They said another group wants the area that weekend (a BMW group) and we were kinda put second place to them and only had availability to leftovers. The rooms were reserved for them although they hadn't made any official reservations or money deposits. I know most want to camp, but some would like to get a room. Also, to eat at the Iron Horse you had to let them know in advance so they knew how many to cook for, then you eat at their time. At the DGMR you eat whenever you want. The food at The Dragon's Den is the best. http://www.dealsgap.com/restaurant.htm The Iron Horse is 24 miles south of The Dragon, while of course the DGMR is right there at the state line where The Dragon begins. Can't wait to ride with y'all. |

Personally we prefer Ironhorse. As far as preordering food, you're only talking about that morning, before we head out. As far as location, Hellbender is in between Ironhorse & the Dragon, which is a great ride and a good warmup. Plus it's closer to the little dragon, US28. Just our opinion. Kevin & Kristen |

This was posted this morning by one of the managers at the Deals Gap Resort. It's official, I just got back from the state line where I spoke to a TNDOT employee. He said that they were going to set up steel barricade and a small living trailer so they could man it 24/7. No traffic will be allowed except TVA and Alcoa. This was put into place by the TN gov. He didn't want NC rescue services working in TN. Brad is working on getting it changed by speaking to the NC gov. I will keep you all updated as I find out, but if it does not change the DGMR will be closed until the road is reopened. |

NC is more than happy to provide the services. They had already worked out a deal with Blount Co. Governor's Office Tennessee State Capitol Nashville, TN 37243-0001 Phone: 615.741.2001 Fax: 615.532.9711 Email: Phil.Bredesen@tn.gov Please use this info to politely ask the Gov to reconsider his decision to close at the state line. |

We do have rides planned that include many other great roads like the Cherohala Skyway, Devil's Triangle, hwy 28, 441, and even 129 in Suches GA. Also, there will be a meeting Friday with TDOT, THP, and Graham County Commissioner Steve Odum. They're still waiting on some more NC reps. The DGMR and other area businesses are working every day to get The Dragon reopened. Keep your fingers crossed and pray that we get some good news. Either way we're gonna have a good event. |

From the Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort: "Ok folks, getting the issues at the Gap worked out. TN has almost finished the law enforcement plan, and Graham county just sent the EMS letter off to our state reps to get to TN. Hopefully we will have the gap opened up early next week." |

Guys, I am coming with a friend of mine - I have 2 bikes (Ully and Blast) and he is bringing a street legal on/off road bike or 2...) We are towing an enclosed trailer with all our stuff. I am really looking forward to meeting some/all of you who attend this year. We are coming from the Nashville area. We are planning to camp at the Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort. I understand that no reservations are allowed... we will be there early/mid Friday afternoon. I hope there will be plenty of space to camp. As for where we ride, it really doesnt matter to me...just happy to be going! |

Astroman, Just in case there are no available camping spaces, you can go to Ironhorse Lodge. They should have plenty of camping spots. We'll be there along with several other Buellers. www.ironhorsenc.com See ya next week. Kevin |

Not sure of the exact route we are taking yet...was gonna do some GPS and mapquest routes to see what is best/fastest way there... |
