I have to admit I don't feel real comfortable off roading the Uly. It's just so freaking huge, and dropping it costs too much money. One of these days I'll get a cheap dual sport and join you guys.

I agree however until I get a Dual sport I'm up for getting my Uly dirty .. Give me a ring next time. I'm up for some dirt riding.
If you think the Uly is big in the dirt try a full sized Ram pickup
Phil, how is an Erion Honda street legal? None of the AMA Superbikes are street legal. All Buell did was race prep a bike. They modified an 1125R with all the goodies that are legal to have so the racer wouldn't have to. Besides, all it needs to be street legal is to add lights mirrors and such.
I don't know enough about Honda to answer that. I do on the other hand know for a fact that the 1098R and 1198R are both production models that can be had in a road going street legal version straight from the dealership. Both bikes also include a full racing kit including exhaust and ecm. Race parts which by the way you don't need a "racing license" to obtain. I like the idea Buell has, they just should have brought this to the table first when they tried to launch this so called "superbike" in 2008. Where's the traction control? Ohlins suspension?(the XBRR had 'em.) titanium exhaust? These are all standard parts on ANY Ducati race model.

You can buy an 1125R at the dealership. To make the 1125RR street legal all you need is lights. Race parts which by the way you don't need a "racing license" to obtain. I never understood that either. Probably has to do with liability issues. Where's the traction control? Ohlins suspension?(the XBRR had 'em.) titanium exhaust? Don't need 'em. It has everything a racer needs to go race in AMA Superbike.
On another topic... Colin just bought a 93 Protege. Extra nice little car. $650!!! Pictures later, he's out learning the manual shift.
To make the 1125RR street legal all you need is lights. And that justifies a $40k price tag?
Don't need 'em. It has everything a racer needs to go race in AMA Superbike.
Then why do all the other teams employ it? They seem to win more races than Buell at the moment. Even the XBRR had those components.(minus traction control) So you're saying Buell is so good they don't need them now? At $40k I would think the price would justify having said components. Not left for a privateer to purchase on his own.

Awesome! Does he still have the s-10 too? Those little Mazdas will haul some ass and eat some tires!
And that justifies a $40k price tag? No, that's a whole different story. I said to make it street legal, not back to stock. The only thing is that exhaust won't make epa. Then why do all the other teams employ it? Sponsorship. Somehow reminds me of that failed XBRR Same here. That was IMHO too far removed from the street XB, way far! This one is different. It's nothing you can't do to a new 1125R, as long as you've got $20K or so to spend.
He still has the s-10. It's in my name though. It's for sale...cheap. It needs much work. But has good tires, with two spare tires mounted on wheels even.
That's awesome Matt, did the Pokey have anything to say?
Who is the local ECM Spy Guru? When is the next tuning day?
Aren't racebikes usually used for R&D? last year they learned that the belt wouldn't work on a race application, so they went to a chain, correct? I don't believe that any rules were broken or special consideration was given to Buell for the acceptance of the RR into AMA events, I agree 40k is a big price tag, but, it will get them noticed more on the world stage if they can become competitive. and that will hopefully get Buell into dealerships in Europe next to the MV. With that, more after market parts become available to the masses at a lower than custom price tag. Speaking of MV, I wonder if there is nay influence or trading of ideas going on between the two.
On another note, I'm glad to see its not just us stepkids that get the cold shoulder at our local dealerships. My father in law just purchased a 09 Tri Glide at Stone Mountain, and he got the same attitude that I am used to getting from the sales and parts force. Stone Mountain - Granite Mountain, if yall are reading this, you might oughta take a class in customer service and communication...EVERYBODY that works in the dealership should be there as a customer service representative, not just one or two folks. Maybe the ones that are customer friendly should wear a patch that states that and live up to it, and keep the rest of the "Badasses" in the back out of view of the public.
Granite Mountain- you might sell more Buells and Buell parts if you put a Buell sign out front, the little one over the service department don't count. Unless of course, you don't want to sell them to prospective customers off the street. It would be pretty good advertisement if someone shopping at Mountain Adventures could look across I 20 and see a Buell sign, you might get some folks in there.
Rant off, everybody have a safe and fun filled weekend
I have used ECM SPY On my Race prepped 05 XB12. I have a cable made up. I used a map from AL over at American Sportbike. It is tuned for a Micron system. The lap top I was using for the data logging finally gave up the ghost however. I really need to get some dyno time for any further advancement. Anyone know a good dyno guy?
If anyone has a laptop they want to use, I would love to help them sort it all out. You also have to download Mega Log viewer from Mega Squirt. It is the program that lets you view all the data logging and also has a nifty data analysis tool that makes map corrections based on the collected data. It's a free download.
I'd be willing to use my laptop, or maybe "borrow" my wifes new mini gateway. My bike isn't running bad, but I've done some things to it since I bought her a couple 2 or 3 years ago and figure a TPS reset and some fine tuning might be in order, certainly couldn't hurt. What all downloads do I need to look at? Mega Log ECM Spy? didn't see anywhere to download anything like that on their site....but I may have overlooked it.
The Boyz at Charlie's Buell Barn hooked mine up to a computer, did some stuff and stuff happened and now it runs better'n it ever has! No more surging at 3500 rpm and the idle is smoother. Want more info? Ask the guys that did the stuff. I was going to the bathroom.
