I went to Candy Kitchen, NM (SW of Grants near Ramah, NM) on Saturday. Also did ten miles of offroad... It was COLD and WINDY. Strong head-wind going west. Just cold on the way back... However, I had lots of wind power coming back - I just had the throttle cracked slightly and was doing 75+. At least the wind steady. BTW: I have a K1200S - nice bike - lots of power and long range comfort and convenience. I've had some problems with mine - German engineering and manufacturing are not perfect - clutch(es), brakes, coil pack, airbox, fire in the tailpipe (minor things...) Hopefully they've resolved some of these issues in the new K1300S. (Message edited by Buellnick on March 10, 2009) |

"Excuse me, sir. Your tail is on fire." |

Literally... One coil pack failed - meaning one cylinder stopped firing. The breather in the airbox started spitting out oil. The mixture of unburned oil and gas got pumped through the "off" cylinder and ended up in the tailpipe which has a HOT catalytic converter... which lit it up. I call the bike (affectionately) the FLAMENWERFER (Flamethrower). Its all fixed now it is an ass haulin bike. |

Holy shit. That's nuts. So was it on fire as you were riding it or did you notice it at a stop? |

It only caught fire when it was turned off. I saw the flame, turned it back on and off and saw the flame roll up from the tail cat converter. I started it again and took it to the dealer. When it was running, the rest of the cylinders were blowing all that stuff out. It was a very unusual problem to have two things go wrong at the same time like that. The BMW blogs indicated that one person had such a problem two years ago in Belgium. The K bike is awesome when in good running order. Great way to travel long distance and have some sport bike fun. However, the 1125R is even better because of the lighter weight and shorter wheel base. The 1125R feels just as fast accelerating to highway speeds. The K bike has more top end - for the autobahn... Well, it continues to be on my list. I've been pretty busy, so haven't taken any time to work on it. I'll bump it up this week. |

Hi NM Buellers. Kim, if you ever get a chance to get up to the new race track out in Byers, Co, it's well worth it. Was there yesterday thru the MRA race school. The weather was interesting but it is a FUN track. Only 2 fairly tight corners but it's 4.2 miles of fun. The straight away is about 1/2 mile and the guys were getting up to at least 150 mph. I only got up to 110mph cause the wind was almost as fast. Anyway check it out if you can. |

Kim, I didn't actually go out for a racing license, just wanted to get on the new track and maybe get some instruction. If I was younger and had gotten into this earlier in my life, I probably would have gone into racing, but not at this point. Also I hear it's a very expensive sport and I'd rather spend my $$$ on other fun stuff. Have a great racing season and let us know when you're up this way and we can try to get down and watch you race |

Julie, don't forget to tell Kim about your single friend when she is up this way. He might like to go riding with her, too. |

Julie, I understand. It does cost a fair amount, and takes up a lot of time. On the other hand it is a rush. I'm defiantly going to be there for the May race. I'm going to be in Denver on the Thursday before the weekend. We should round up a few buellers for dinner. |

Kim, which track will you be at? Definitely let us know when you're here. And, yea, I'm sure it's a rush. We're going to be out of town from May 13-15, going to Omaha to see my daughter graduate from med school. Crazy girl. |

The race is going to be HPR. I'm heading up on May the 7th (Thursday), there is a practice day on the 8th and racing on the 9th-10th. Congrat on the daughter! That is great. |

Good luck at HPR (you're going to love that track, I hope). Not sure we can make it. My mom's coming in on Sat and Sun is Mother's Day. Hope the weather is perfect for your race. |

Well the SF Harley track day was great... shame there wasn't more Buells out there. I received my new video camera on Sat. It works great, but I've only been able to figure out how to mount it backward. I'm also still learning how to edit. Once I get finished editing I'll go ahead and post up my illegal pass on poor Nick. In that group you aren't supposed to pass on the inside, but by the time I realized he was braking that much I didn't have much of a choice but to go. Where were the rest of the Buells? Kim, Video evidence of this gross violation of track rules...are you sure you want to self-incriminate? ...the truth shall set you free. No worries by me...it was a clean (illegal) pass... This track day was like no other for me... First time I ran counterclockwise at SMRI. Its a whole different track. All the left hand turns are decreasing radius in this direction. Much more technical than going clockwise. I had #675 show me around the track during the first session. Running counterclockwise was a lot more work. BTW: Let me know if you want track day pictures. A good friend of mine was taking pics. I'll pass you his email. |

Do we have a ride schedule yet? Has the Taos rally (or whatever we're going to call it) been nailed down yet? |

Yeah... where is that ride schedule??? :-P Nick, I was just out there with the purpose of videoing another guy on a Buell. He is married to a very good friend of mine. I get to take him to one track day a year. He wanted video footage and pictures of himself on the bike. I can change the title if you'd like. Just tell me what you'd like it to be called. It was 1 am while I was editing and post up the footage and I wasn't thinking up creative names. |

I am looking forward to seeing the ride schedule as well. I was not able to make the Taos Rally last year but should be able to make it this year no matter where it is held. It is not about the place but the people. I am not sure how many people from Southern Colorado will attend but can think of three off the top of head that may go. Frank |

Nick, I've got one of me doing the same thing to Murrea up on youtube as well. There is also video of the guy I was chasing down to video when I went by you. I'm working on pulling more off and I'll be posting those up as well. I'm planning on riding the Jemez this weekend, I've figured out how to mount it to my helmet.
