Warning: non-motorcycle content to follow ... Hi, Would any of you local folks have an automotive OBDII scan tool with the Ford/Mercury adapters? Hopefully one with a live feed to be able to read what is really going on. We've got a 2003 Mercury Sable that is giving us problems, rough idle and stalling at idle. Autozone free scan spits out a lean condition on bank two sensor one oxygen sensor. I replaced that but the problems continue. Last night I replaced the air filter and disconnected the battery for a few minutes, problem persists and the check engine light came back on today. Last Fall we replaced the two EGR lines due to decomposing rubber boots, but the car ran fine over the winter after that. I can't find any obvious wiring shorts or vacuum leaks. I'm running to the MenoFalls NAPA store at lunch today to price scanners, I suspect I won't like what they say for me to get what I'd want. So, anyway, anybody want to help scan our car????? I now return you to the regularly scheduled programming. (Message edited by mikej on April 14, 2009) |

Sorry, I don't have a scanner. I've always just used Autozone to scan my vehicles. It sounds to me like you may have some dirty, or partially clogged injectors. I'd do some injector cleaner on 'em. The kind you plug in to the fuel rail and spray. But, YMMV |

I've got a bottle of some cleaner in the gas tank now, just have to get enough miles on the car for the magic juice to hopefully do it's stuff. Is there an access hole on the injectors someplace to spray a cleaner directly in there? I'll have to look in the repair book at home. It's stuff like this that make me appreciate simple carbs even more. |

There is a shrader<sp?> valve on the fuel rail that you plug in the injector cleaner. It's put in under pressure. You can't just "spray" stuff in there. It's a whole system thing. I remember watching some car/diy show that showed how to do it. I'd ask the boys at NAPA. |

Wish I would have known about Autozone offering free scans. Just yesterday I drop $250 at the dealership to replace my o2 sensor in my Jeep. $100 just for the scan. This is my second sensor in 10,000 miles! Im sure I could have done it all myself, but I just came off a 16 hr work day and said F it. Just wanted to go home and sleep. |

Sensor was about $60, slotted deep wall socket was another $10. If I'd had my crowsfoot wrench head I wouldn't have needed the socket. The gal at NAPA gave me a price of about $70-80 for the idle air control valve (IAC) which is supposed to be another potential suspect. Looking at their catalog it looks like the scan tool I'd want is about $329 on sale, don't know what the regular price is. A guy here at the day job might know someone with a tool. If so then I might be able to get a more complete scan run for the cost of some bottled bubbles (beer or soda maybe). I guess I should unbury the Buells and start charging their batteries. |

Fbodies is having a track day tomorrow up at Road America. I will going up to visit my brother from up North. So if anyone is interested in heading up that way tomorrow morning from the Brookfield area, let me know. Departure will be around 10am. I haven't decided on a scenic ride or a fast ride. Also, if you want a ride in a car around the track, that might be arranged. |

Heading back to good old Fort Atkinson, the place where I grew up, to ride with a fellow Bueller and to see if Ecmspy will hook up to my bike and work. I just heard that there is a Ecmspy2, that may work on certain 08's. Have fun! Edit: So I guess I'll ask if anybody wants to roll along with me, let me know. I'd be leaving Milwaukee around noon. Toni and I are most likely headed down there on Saturday. If we get enough interest, and the weather holds out, I'd be happy to lead a ride down there. It's $25 to get in there for spectators. On another note, I ended up re-doing our Rustic Road Route #1 to avoid the 2 flooded areas. It now contains 15 Rustic Roads. http://rideplanner.harley-davidson.com/rideplanner/share/209456 This is An ALL DAY ride. According to our last meeting, We'd like to do this route on May 17th. I think we should start this one at 9AM. I'm going to sit down, and route out another 10 routes, so we can get the 25 for the state certificate. It takes 10 to get the patch. I've also Attached a GPX file for anyone with a GPS.

Yo Steve, I know that 36 between Burlington and Hospital Rd is closed because they are connecting the other half of the bypass to 36. It will be shut down for the summer. Not a big deal (10 min detour through Lyons), but maybe look into it. Good route! I'll be going around the block (long way home) all day. I'm right in the middle of everything! |

Hi Guys, Got a chance, for first time, to run the Firebolt up against a group of riders with mostly 600's and 750's rice machines on the road today. What an experiance, I was right there and more with the 600's. The GSX-R 750 did pull hard over about 80 mph though. When it came to the curves, PLEASE, the rice was all over the road with brake lights a tapp'in. My Bolt was SOLID. My machine now is the best handeling bike I've owned or ridden but I didn't really know for sure. When they say Buell owns the corners thats not bullshit at all. Later, all that the other chaps could talk about was how shocked they where how well the the Buell performed (there is a lot of unfounded crap being bad-mouthed about Buell's out there in greater sportbike land). They are considering buying Bolts and 1125R's now for the first time.-WOW |

Good job Jason! Spec Sheets don't always tell the whole story. Tell those "Chaps" to come to the Hals demo days on May 22nd and 23rd. |

So I went on a ride yesterday on my Blast that amounted to roughly 100 miles. I shifted my weight into a few positions based on my speed but at about 50 miles my butt was really feeling it for some reason, and when I got back I literally couldnt sit down on a regular chair for awhile, my tailbone was bruised that bad I think? I don't remember it being that much of a problem last Fall..ha maybe I'm just not in shape yet. I have the low seat on it but I'm 5'-7" so its not like I need it but it came with the bike when I got it. Anyone know if the taller seat provides that much more cushion? And if so is it possible to try and get a badweb discount at any of the dealers or is Ebay my best bet? Thanks, Josh |

Yeah, the taller seat does have A LOT more cushion. Go to Hals and sit on one of their blasts just to try it out. Then I'd search Ebay for a tall blast seat. |
