So I couldn't wait until July and had to test the course out this past weekend. All I can say is "Wow, these guys run WOT on this"? Of course the surface is a little more favorable in July...I hope. My visor would instantly fog up after the half way point so my eye lids kind of froze open. Nothing a little coffee and four donuts couldn't cure. The old XB9 didn't like to run after cooling down at the top, something about 13 degrees and 14K feet above sea level. I wonder if I can get some riding tips from Joe Kopp or Brian Anderson on how to handle the hairpin turns and the loose gravel? I spent a lot of time in first and second gear with a tight pucker.

FWIW, one of the young Trachey bros that raced m/c's in 2008 had an incident coming down on one of the test & tune weekends. Mind you, this is not racing up, but going down the mountain after time trials up it. He lost control and went down in one of the dirt sections, and lost a digit to an impact with a rock.

So that is how it happened. I remember the announcer saying something about him loosing part of a finger...and racing anyway. I'm not sure that I'm that tough, or crazy, any more. Still a smidgen crazy, though.

I'm psyched and can't wait to see the updated Buell entries this year!

Just to stoke the fire a bit:

A friend spoke to me today about some information on some new car entries to the hill climb. A very high placed executive was told that 10:00 flat or less was certainly possible by his companions...from Europe.

Add to that the bevy of bikes that High Country will field and that is enough for me to not get bored. Last year it was Ducati in the 1200 class, the year before it was BMW. This year: BUELL!

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Supercharged versions of the new Ford Fiesta will make the line's U.S. racing debut at the 87th running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on July 19.

The Sweden-based Olsberg Motor Sport Evolution team will bring two Fiesta Rallycross cars to Colorado to try to break the 10-minute mark in the race's unlimited class.

Ford is bringing the Fiesta to the U.S. from Europe next summer.

Thirty-five-year-old four-time Swedish rally champion Andreas Eriksson will race one Fiesta and 41-year-old Marcus Gronholm will race the other.

Eriksson manages the team. Gronholm is one of the most accomplished drivers in World Rallying.

Pikes Peak has 11 classes in this year's race. It is the second-oldest motor sports race in America behind the Indy 500 and has been conducted since 1916.

The 12.42-mile race begins at 9,390 feet and finishes at the 14,110-foot summit.

High Country H-D/Buell will be at Fan Fest on Tejon St Friday nite and mounting two Buells with racers in their first Pikes Peak International Hillclimb next Sunday.

We hope to see some fans down there. If interested in staying the nite before camping, give me a call.
