I just bought a 2009 XB12XT and it does not come out of the corner like my Triumph Tiger does. Is there many mods I can do to make this bike a bit faster? I have just over 500 hundred miles on it. Is my gas mileage going to start improving? |

Welcome to the PBR livnloud The mileage should improve as it breaks in some more. The other thing I found out is that the side bags reduce your mileage by about 5-7 mpg (still under testing). So if your not on a trip it may be worth removing until you need them. They cause a lot of wind drag. As far as pulling out of the corner the Buell has the TQ. But it's main power is up in the 4000 rpm range so keep the revs up (once broke in). The TQ is pretty flat so it may not feel as fast as it really is. With only 500 miles you probably have not been able to get on it yet. |

One of the biggest reason I bought this type of bike was for the bags. I need room for a laptop and a gym bag, and I love they are waterproof. That's a bummer deal, specs show that these new XB12XT's are suppose to get 61 on the highway. Would they do all of their testing with out bags? |

61 seems a bit steep, MOst of us get between 45 and 55 on the Highway (Sorry Pod, you aint "most") The Xb, with the exception of the 80's does get very good mileage, but it takes bit to learn how. Like the sweed said, get it up to 3500~4500 RPM and keep it there, it's where these things are happiest. That means riding the slab at 55 MPH in 4th gear, not 5th. Lower RPM bogs it down and it wants more fuel. Once you get done with break in, take it up to 3500 RPM and hold it steady there for about three minutes (Let the ECM learn the altitude, etc) then go get on it and see how it pulls out of the corners. |

I thought 61 was kind of high too so I double checked Buells site. On the spec page it says: Urban: 51 Highway: 64 http://www.buell.com/en_us/bikes/adventure/XB12XT/ specifications.asp |

64 MPG! Maybe down hill with a 150 lb rider. More realistic is possibly 55 on a straight with consistent speed and 47 with mixed riding. My best so far has been 52 MPG. But I am sorry to say it wont happen with the bags on. Too much wind drag. |

I am out in North Plains, so I would be down for any West side rides. I will keep watching this site to see when you guys are hooking up for a ride. I would like to meet some other Buell riders and talk bikes. |

The performance has improved quite a bit, but my gas mileage is still in the low 30's. I had 1468 miles on it when I grabbed gas this morning. Great day for riding. I will probably throw a pipe and screw with the ECM next summer. It will be fine for riding through the winter. This is the address right? 7421 NE Beech St, Portland, OR I will try to make it over there, weather permitting |

Yup, welcome to the 30s club. I get mid 30s MPG , downhill in a hurricane, uphill in a hurricane, sideways in a twister, pushing, pulling, trailering, etc. I haven't found a way to improve it, yet! Hopefully the new mapping software will help. |

I've been thinking of a new XB12XT but when I hear of XB12X's only getting 30 I get real concerned. I always get over 50 with my XB12R. Hell, I can get 29 with my Ford Ranger. How can a XB12X only get 30? Should I start looking at other bikes? |

I have almost 1700 miles on it now and I am still getting low 30's. Usually 32 or 33. I am really bummed about this, but Paradise say it will get more as i put more miles on it. Duh what else are they going to tell me? And they still say it will do better with out the bags. I bought the bike to have the bags. So I don't think they should put those kind of specs out if they are selling this years model with the bags. I will keep this updated if mileage starts improving. |

Yes, please keep us posted. I just got back from the Seattle bike show and I almost bought the XB12XT. I just don't understand how a 400 lb bike can get that kind of mileage. |

I talked with a couple of my customers with X/XT, they are getting high 40 low 50mpg on normal riding. Some of the bikes seem to need to be recalibrated. Waiting on more miles to cure the problem??? Saddle bags shouldnt hurt much. Keep in mind our local fuel supply is crap. You should contact one of our service writers (@Latus)to check your bike. |

I have been running all week without bags. If the next tank or two do not make a difference (which I do not think it will) I will take your advice and take it back to get re-calibrated. Thanks, |

Well running without bags for two tanks did not make one bit of difference so I took it back to Paradise last Tuesday and they re-flashed the ECM, which I never did any changes to it. But they said that is about all they could do with out calling and talking to Harley. Anyways they filled the tank and took it out on a 30 mile test ride then measured the tank and said that it got 50 MPG on that ride. I have not quite gone through another tank yet so I do not know for certain. I am gonna give it a tank or two and I will re-post and give y'all the results. There was a brand new red one at Paradise too, good lookin bike. Other then the MPG I am really enjoying this bike. |

Well I went through the tank that I had in it when I took it to Paradise and figured that tank was 60 MPG, but that is a bit misleading because Paradise topped off the tank and took it on a ride. I was going to try and get through the next tank this weekend but my boy came over and hung out with me so I did not get to do any riding this weekend. I'll get through this tank and let ya know. I am very curious as well if this did the trick. |

Well I just got through another take and the verdict is not good. I got 34.7 MPG which is the best I have gotten yet. I knew the 60 MPG that i posted prior was a bit skewed, cause Paradise had filled it for me. I went to a different gas station today then I normally do and I am going to go through one more tank, if it is still in the low 30's I am going back to Paradise. I am really not happy about this AT ALL! |
