Oh man, this weather.... Went outside for lunch yesterday while at work and nearly left the job.... Today I locked myself in the plant to avoid that horrible torn feeling.... What a gorgeous day.... Burn more coal, I say....

Hey Caboose, can you donate your bike to the booth before you bugger off for a few days? How bout you, Chris? A Blast'd be a good addition. Let me know what you guys think....

I *may* be able to help transport them if you can't get them there.... WE NEED BIKES....

We've got a 10x50ft spot to fill.... So far just my S1 and S3, Brett's S3 and John's X1....

Kahoona, are you reading this?!? Another X1, S1 and XB9S'd be a perfect way ta round this thing out.... I've got the trailer to move em....

Or ya'll could just ride down in yer shorts if this weather holds.... :D

What'sa buzz, lads?

Ho ho ho,
L

Puslinch Lake is Just off the 401, maybe 3 mins.
heading westbound from toronto take the Cambridge town line rd exit #286 (right after the McDonald's. Turn Left onto Townline Rd. Your FIRST lights (the lights to get back on the 401 eastbound) turn left, this is lake road. Keep an eye on the right for a big billboard that advertises "Lake alive" or "McClintock's". These mark the entrance to the lake, make sure to take the right entrance (there are two) This will take you to the marina restaurant, which also backs onto the lake (Make sure to have a Puslinch burger!). I am skeptical about what they will think of loading bikes onto the lake, So I will see if any of the old "Alternate" entrances are still Accessible.

I made a note on the map that I am 5 mins from the lake, I can't provide an abundance of tools, but The barn doubles as a great work shop, so if repairs are needed, head over.

Lornce,

Yeah, I can get the Blast down there, It needs a major cleanup & polish (I'll try and hide the duct-tape and aluminum foil that I'm using as a signal relay). I'll get back to you as to which time I can get up there.

Anyone have tips on detailing a buell? Trust me, I need em!

Hey Snotires, how bout' an Ice Report for Puslinch Lake? I think with this cold snap there should be enough ice to get out.

Lornce, what is your schedule like. My weekend is pretty much shot, but I work steady afternoons so weekdays are good for me. Let's get out there Lornce. Besides, its always more fun for me when I have someone to lap . Let the bench racing begin!

So did you sell the KTM and get the Cannondale? Is your bike ready for the ice?

My friend Kent who lives in Rockwood (he'll be ice racing as well) is checking the conditions of Guelph Lake. I know rider's are out on Lake Scugog, but its about two hours away.

I saw the photo of your S3T at the International Supershow. Had I'd known there were going to be umbrella girls at your booth I might have passed on the ice fishing trip to North Bay!!!

Kept the KTM, the Cannondale had importation "issues" I didn't wanna be near. Too bad, that was a neat bike.

Did you take yer Hooonda out on Lake Nippissing while you were ice fishing? I've got a funny story I'll tell you some time about Lake Nippissing, my old 250 Can Am, a 25 ft channel of open water.... and a freaked-out ice fisherman. :D

Gonna look around this pm for ice studs. Give that a whirl before springing for full blown ice tires.

Are you going Super-Moto racing next year? Just realized I could run the KTM. How about it?

Lornce, I think I'm gonna pass on the SuperMoto thing this year. I had a lot of fun with it but.....There is much more time spent preparing, traveling, etc than time spent racing. A good part of your week involves getting your bike and gear in order, then you've got 1.5 hour plus drive to the tracks, another two hours signing in / tech inspection and setting up your pit, all for about 50 min of track time. A few other things pissed me off last year too. Like last minute race cancelations and (this is a big one) the lack of a warm up / sighting lap. The track changes so much between heats and the promoter expects you to go out there full blast into the unknown. Other highlights included waiting in 30 degree heat (blazing sun - full leathers) in the staging area for a horse race to finish. The majority of the races are held at Casino's / Horse tracks. I ran in the Lightweight class, but to truly enjoy yourself out there you need to spend $3000 on a wheel and brake-set. Well maybe not a wheel set, but definately brakes. The rotor and disk that are more than enough for dirt use quickly show there limitations on pavement.

Don't let my comments stop you from giving her a try. I had a great time and would do it again if there was more track time and a place to practice.

Jason,

Your comments sound consistent with everything I've ever observed at amateur motorsport events. It's why I've always stuck to the simple riding fun of track days. Tell me we aren't running a race pace at Cayuga? Riggghhtt. Guess we'll just have to do more of those, eh? Yourta been there with us in August, Kahoon was absolutely smokin.

Gonna pick up ice screws for the KTM this afternoon, should be ready for a ride later this PM. Just say the word! -37C with the windchill today, orta be tracks available everywhere.

Newfie,

There's always something fun going on with the Airheads. This coming Thursday Stacy (who's a fire-fighter in Toronto) is hosting a 4-Alarm Chilli night. Orta be a rippin good time.

Zing me a ping at lawrenceh@golden.net and we can talk about the S3. ;)

ciao lads,
Lornce

I just got in from a tour. Here is the long and short of it. Puslinch Lake, although ideally suited, will probably not work out. It is surrounded by private property with only one access point. Its the above mentioned trailer park with a boat launch. The owner (if he lets us) will likely charge $10 per bike to get out on the ice. Once on the ice you'd maybe get 15 minutes of riding done before the cops show up. Its a pretty ritzy area.

Guelph Lake, I was on the east side, looks good. The conditions are perfect for givin' er. Just a few stumps to look out for. Problems there are, nowhere to park close to the Lake, and its surrounded by swamp. I found a trail that leads to the Lake from a side road, about a two minute ride. It would be a real pain in the ass if you wanted to warm up in the truck for a bit. I'm not sure what the west side looks like. I was running out of time and didn't see any close by access roads, no map in the car of course. So your not confused, the Guelph Lake is split by County Rd.124??? I think, smaller half on the east side.

I think Lake Erie at Turkey Point is the best option sofar. Wide open ice, drive the truck and bikes right out there. I will continue the search for suitable lakes.....would have been a good idea to do it in the summer....D'oh!!!

laters...

Trackdays are the best way to go. Tonne o'fun and you can do you own thing out on the track. Take a few hot laps, then cool down for one. Whatever. You just have to watch out for the....er umm, "over excited" kids on their crashed out gixxer's and R6's.

The only Buell guy running a race pace at Cayuga was Big K. He's got the scar's to prove it!

As for your tires & studs, get the 6-pack chilling and the cordless drill charging....it takes a while!
