Mookie, Yea, there's an Octoberfest in Kitchener, though I've never been. Rocky's in London and Thunder Road in Windsor both sell Buell, though I can't vouch for their service etc. Have a good trip. Lornce |

Lornce, I was reviewing some e-mails (on my mother's computer, as I'm still without one) and I noticed some airhead talk of ice racing. I'm going to stud-up my CRF450 this winter but I know nothing about the sport. Are you knowlegdable about bike set-up / places to ride / etc. I figure I can ride on Guelph Lake, or Lake Erie down by St. Williams. It looks like a tonne o' fun sliding around the corners! |

Hi Jay, We're thinking of putting together a team for a run at the annual Numb Bum 24 hr endurance ice race in Northern Alberta. It's hosted by Fairveiw College's Motorcycle Tech program. Haven't done it before, but I'm working with a guy who's done it three times... once on a scooter! We're thinking three riders, minimum. Four's better... hint hint. I'm still searching for a bike, apparently big bore four strokes are the rig to run. Just missed a good deal on an XR600R am currently following up a tip on a KTM.... We'll see what we end up with. Saw a view of the circuit and it looks pretty neat. Not an oval but a 14km "road race" looking serpent. I haven't played on the ice since the early '80's. Basically, you need to drop the forks in the tubes to quicken the steering (shortens trail) and lower the suspension front and rear. Not too many triples on a frozen lake. Sean's our man for set-up. You can reach him at bigdyno@hotmail.com he's happy to chat and share info. Should be lots of local options. Guelph Lake, Puslinch Lake, Orangeville Reservoir, Lake Simcoe, Erie, Grand River? etc etc.... Have also heard of a local group that run on a pond near Brantford. Let's keep in touch about this. To roll off the gas in that situation would mean certain doom. I watched a few club races last year on Lake Scugog. There were some crashes, no one got run over by the many "rotating buzz saws", seems the worst that happens is you crash / slide into a nice fluffy snow-bank. My CRF is just about ready to go, jetting remains to be sorted and the tires still need to be studded. Good news....I buying a new computer this week, so I'll be back in the loop. |
