Kathy: HERE it is. Be sure you order the 1050 (unless you are installing it on a boat. The 105 has a remote indicator which installs in your dash quite easily. HERE is the thread that has the instructions and details. If you're not comfy doing the install, let me know and perhaps we can get some help. There is great peace of mind in knowing what's going on when you are running lots of goodies, I KNOW I have more stuff than the bike is designed or capable of powering sameultimeoulsy, so I wanted the monitor to allow me to make informed power management decisions. |

Court - I'd be very interested in learning about your switch pods, and the bar-mount flashlight setup. Also, curious why 2 different back-off units? Our XP still hasn't come in... I agree on the voltage meter, I caved and put a Kuryakn meter #4218 (http://www.kuryakyn.com/products.asp?bn=harley&ci= 2695) on the top tree, between the bar clamp and instrument cluster. Peeks out just enough to see at a glance...and according to my Fluke, it's actually surprisingly accurate At least enough to be useful... I use that gauge on both my S2 and the Uly, since they get the most use in heated-gear-weather (and the S2 has PIAAs; soon to come on the Uly, I suspect). |

Court, Thanks for the information. I know what you mean peace of mind knowing how much you are using I've always wondered ,and I was always conservative with how I used my add-ons. Rat, sometime in the near future I would like to see your Uly and how you have it mounted. I was considering using Bob's BMW to mount PIAA lights. Next question is what is your suggested mounting position, on the forks near the hub, or up near the head lights? K |

For lights, I prefer on something sprung, as opposed to unsprung (near the headlights, not the caliper or hub). It cuts waay down on bouncing that filament around - all that vibration can lead to drastically shorter bulb life. I've also found on some of my cars' foglights (and from doing stage/concert lighting for years) that the higher the light source is off the ground, the better visibility you get. If it's real low (like near the hub), you get long shadows off road level changes, rocks, potholes, etc. A higher light source lights down into those areas and more accurately duplicates the angle from your eyes to those items, giving better visibility to the driver. If you want to visually seperate them from the headlights so you have a larger "face" for oncoming traffic, use fork clamps and put them just above the fork seal, on the upper half of the fork legs. It gets the new lights out of the headlight area, but keeps them mounted to sprung parts of the bike. I'll try and get a pic today of the gauge on the tree, and post it here. |

Wow very good information thanks. I've seen them mounted in these two spots but never thought about the difference. If I get the PIAA lights and LED monitor how much more can the ULY be hooked up with goodies I'm almost at 10,000 miles on it and haven't past a year yet, I new record for me! K |

I used the GME light bar from Badweb sponsor/member Gary. The thing is elegant in it's simplicity, installs in less than 5 minutes and just simply "works". It is as if it were made for the PIAA 510 lights, I suppose it is. I haven't made the leap to HID yet but my worries about being seen are rendered moot.

Very nice. I know it's not 'heated gear weather' just yet, but have you had a chance to fully load the system? Just curious how it handles it all... |

Here's the meter, mounted (with supplied doublestick tape) to the upper tree. Wires coming out of the top left go to a tap on the lead for the accessory outlet (anything in the 12V system will feed it). I "modified" it by putting a piece of scotch tape, colored with a black sharpie marker, to keep it from blinding me at night (homemade "tint").

I'm playing with it to find out what it likes and doesn't like. It's kinda like I used to do when I flew a lot . . . I always like to have an idea of what works and what doesn't and to have the execution drill practiced prior to needing it late at night. So far . . . with the things I'm running. . . I can "go amber" only with full heat and full lights. I'm not touching anything else until I get 500 good miles under various conditions on this and validate both mounting and operation. |

Ah, OK. Thanks. I'm trying to compare. My S2 (same gauge) is around 10v at idle with heat and lights (PIAA powersports 35W bulbs) on; cruise is 13-14v no problem. I know the charging systems are drastically different, just wondering if the Uly will "like" some extra lights to go with the heat this winter |

Gang I wouldn't worry too much about the draw. I have a digital voltmeter on my Lowrance iWay 500 GPS that reads in volts and tenths (lower right in this terrible picture - BTW this was with the engine off). If the figures from your voltmeter link are correct ( and I totally suspect they are - - Flashing Green - Voltage Above 15.25 VDC – This prolonged over-voltage condition can destroy batteries, especially gel-cells. Steady Green - Above 12.9 Steady Amber - Above 12.6 Steady Red - Above 12.1 Flashing Red - Below 12 VDC – During this condition, if the engine is running, do not shut down until service can be provided. Restart of engine is unlikely. Reduce electrical load. The Uly seems to handle it all well. I've run FULL heated gear (socks, pants, jacket liner, gloves) cranked all the way up with the GPS going and it never went into the amber range. I just got done independently hard wiring the high and low beam HIDs from VVME. When they are first switched on the voltmeter drops 0.1-0.2 Volts but comes right back up. In fact, the only time I've seen the meter drop is with the little mini PIAAs I put on some time ago. When I switch these on the voltage drop will stabilize at about 0.3 V less - but still above the amber range.

Don, What series of PIAA lights are they? The mounting bar also looks different did you make it, were did you get it from? Do the lights do a good job lighting up the road? Thanks K |

Kathy The PIAAs are the 004XT model. Yes, they do a great job of lighting up the road - but since I installed the HID kit for the regular hi/low beam all I notice now when I switch them on is a wider light pattern. I figured I'll still keep them, though, as a back-up The light bar was manufactured by a fellow badwebber and called the Ulytility. I believe he no longer makes them. Pretty psyched about the total control course at HCC this weekend. Thanks for the referral for that one D |

Thanks Don for your information. You are going to have a blast with Total Control. The exercises are fun but challenging. And I have to say welcome back to the States! I have to go to Harford CC for state work this Saturday. I'll try to pop up to meet you at TC. K |

Don...I *thought* those lights looked the same as what's on my S2 Good to know the Uly doesn't mind the draw. |

Ras I know longer work for Old Glory I had to let them go after I got hired by the state, 4 jobs is way too much! Today I'm going up to the Trap shoot for Breast Cancer Susan G Komen. Its located off of Marriottsville rd and Wards Chapel road in southern Carol county. If anybody wants to ride up and watch another Buell rider take out the compitetion and have lunch up there and ride a little after. I'll be there around 11:30. I'll be on the X1. K |

Don, it was nice to meet you at Total Control. I hope you liked the class. I had been out all day on parking lots and was a little worn out and the suspension part would have put me to sleep, even though it is interesting. We'll have to go riding on the ULYs and compare bikes. K |

Man, I gotta get my legs back in shape so I can take a couple of these classes. I'd hate to have something buckle under trying to do a course...but since I have all this free time, I should do something constructive. AND, I still have my temp. handicap parking tag - I can display that in my map pocket during the course, just to freak everyone out |

Hi Kathy Sounds like a plan! It was nice to meet you too! I probably should have waited a bit on taking the class - still a little rusty after all my time out of the saddle. Still well worth the time - I know what I need to practice and how to practice it. The exercises are so quick they're tough - my old brain needs a lot more repetition. The throttle is so sensitive in first gear on the uly - today I'm, wondering if I should have tried a couple laps in second Joe - I've got the Total Control book if you'd like to use it |

Don, Total Control is tough, I struggled with some of the riding exercises as well. The metric bikes are a lot smoother than the torque monsters we ride. You looked good riding the exercises on the ULY. I have cones for parking lot practice. I set up a fun one for Smileyeye on day, he said it was like riding a mini dragon. K |

Hey! I know a 'mini-Dragon' type run.. Right out near where I live actually.. Let me know sometime and I'll show it too ya...and anyone else that's in the mood for a few miles of twisted back roads and a bunch of 'bob 'n weave' kinda riding, without going too far from all the comforts of the city... Sort of. |

Took a nice ride today - no place special but great weather and light traffic. Got to work on a couple cornering techniques. Concentrated on getting my CoG inside the bikes, creating the "V", etc. Stuff really works - I found myself making tighter turns at higher speeds ( at least it felt like I was going faster ) - only problem was initially I was turning so much tighter I was headed for the inside road shoulders and had to back off a bit. |

Remember to be the invisable guy on the bike first! My hardest time with the V thing was getting the inside shoulder from dirt bike mode to leaning out more. So when I was leaning out I found more steering inputs in The turn and going inside faster too! I have a lot of steering inputs trying to adjust to the Total Control way. Then Tracy told me line up your inside shoulder, elbow, and knee and go in and it worked. You can't do an early APEX when doing this otherwise you will go inside faster! You have similarities? K |

Just wanted to share a road with you guys- Rt. 216 off of 83 in PA- it's exit 8- hang a right (east). The corners are amazing- a lot of them are blind, though, so don't go flying through there until you learn the road =) |
