Vashon was great, the variety of bikes is what makes the event. old Guzzis. two stroke Yamahas, a diesel powered Suzuki and several Buells! The good weather is bringing out the Buells. I saw two Lightnings, an S3 and a Blast on my way back from visiting the Trev Deeley Museum in Vancouver BC. The Harley exhibit runs through December when they are replacing it with British bikes. About 60 Harleys and a single Buell. While I was there several Harley purists expressed disgust for all the Aermacchi bikes, they area significant part of Harley Davidson history. |

Well... It's about to start; the Dirty Bastards pull out fri. morn @ 6 am. There is a foreign observer riding with us this year, making this the first ride of the International Dirty Bastard Expeditionary Force. Our weather forecast calls for blistering 80 f. days intermittent with patches of shady road that have never seen the light of day, ferget about feeling any warmth from Old Sparky. I'm told the temp. drops close to Absolute Zero in the spooky night, so we're fairly certain some one of us, at least, will freeze. As for the spooky part, I am also told there have been several sightings of the dreaded Chupacabra! in the area. I know, I’m freaking out just sitting here! Hopefully Snail will be packin’. More as it happens... |

Hey, Sorry I missed you dirty bastards! Especially since you were riding in my backyard. Hope it was good! We were off in NoCal at Earthdance for the weekend - great music but too much smoke & dust! I'm interested to know what roads you took and what you thought. Hope you're up for it again next year. We'd love to host and join the ride. Later, MG |

Exciting news at the Wood house.... this weekend Cody Wood took a podium finish at PIR in the 500 Vintage Class aboard his 1971 Honda CL175. It poured like a mother and looked like he might not finish as his bike sputtered along trying to breath as the airfilter took in a little wet stuff! He securely had locked in a 3rd place finish with only one lap to go - we were thrilled. However the two front bikes were battling it out and one ended up losing the front end on the last lap and Cody scooted on by taking a 2nd place finish. He was all smiles when he came in - but was even happier once he realized by staying up right he had earned 2nd. Kimberlie (Message edited by kimberlie on September 22, 2008) |

Seems a bit of a ghost town around here these days. Not too much moto chat going on with the group. What gives? Mike, the dirty bastards ride was fantastic. There sure are some great roads in Oregon and I pledge to ride more of them soon. Looking over the maps reveals what I’m sure are popular motorcycle loops in and around your neck of the woods. It total there where 7 of us and the camping added a nice relaxed atmosphere to the group too. We had been expecting Ron, his wife and his son to show but I figure the 5000’ elevation and sleeping in tents just didn’t sound too cozy. Maybe next year. Kimberly Congratulations go out to Cody and the family. That is awesome news. He must be so proud of his efforts and in the rain too. It freaks me out to ride fast in the rain. I have a lot of respect and admiration for the racers that can. Don’t forget to post podium pictures. Cheers from the frozen north |

Hey it's not frozen yet!!! I get my crash bars off this Thursday. I'm looking forward to being able to ride but not the process of removal so much. I have most of the new parts I need to fix Speedy but I haven't decided on handlebars and grips yet. Jimmy, don't put the bike away yet. How do you like the Rizoma grips? Hopefully, you, Eric, Marc and I can make at least one more run to Baker or somewhere. Harv |

The secret is out! Duane, Funjimmy, and I railed on the street, dodging cows, deer, chipmonks... ate fresh trout for breakfast. And man did it get cold at night! Lucky for me Jimmy likes to snuggle! I don't know what roads we were on... seems like they all revolved around the name "John Day". And then there were two. Some how we missed a turn off that Jimmy didn't. When he didn't show at the spot WE thought we were meeting Duane and I started looking for skidmarks and broken bits. Nope. I was afeared Jimmy might be stuck under a log, and freeze if he was out all night. Little did we know... So Duane and I head back to camp, but we screwed around so long looking for our third, that it was night now. We were dressed in warm-weather-day type stuff, and we started to freeze bumping around on some cattle trail we found ourselvs on. We found a town finaly, and spent the rest of the night in a hot shower together. So it turns out we putted right past the little turnoff we were looking for. opps. The fellas in camp were worried about us, and were a little testy when we hooked up... So anyway I learned sumpin. I have honestly, always just folowed Bob. I generaly have no idea where I am... it hadn't been an issue for the last eight years. But I see I need to take some more responsibility for myself... Hey, guess what broke this time... the motor mount! Just the tip that holds the breadbox... just snapped in half. At least she brought me home. New bike is in the future. There, I said it. I'm gona have to retire Betty. It just wasn't designed to go as fast as I want to go. So it goes. __________________ |

Sounds like a nice trip. Galen: The 1125CR looks much better in person. Saw one today at Legend HD in Silverdale. Destination still doesn't have any, but I hear Downtown HD in Tukwila does. |

So many of us where early supporters of Buell back in the tube frame years. That era of Buell was plagued with reliability issues and if pushed like these guys push bikes, will fail. With the exception of the water cooled bikes, Buell's are engineered with limited and out of date technology at a premium price. The sporting rider needs and deserves a better product. That can't be offered with air cooled engines! With water cooled technology, performance and reliability come together. It's unfortunate that the combination has to comes from Austria. Are we really supporting a US sport bike or just a Red White and Blue Aprilia?

Ditto on what Jimmy sed. I ride the holy livin' shiznit out of my S3... the pegs are shaved off on BOTH sides. The bike handles like a dream, and has brought me to a higher level of riding. But the freakin' thing has spent over 2.5 years of it's 8 year life with me BUSTED, SITTING IN THE BLOODY GARAGE, PISSIN' ME OFF. It is the most un-reliable machine devised by the twisted mind of man. I don't want a bike with elephant ears that BOILS the fuel in it's tank. Sorry Eric. Me, I'm lookin' for a used Almost-Anything befor next season starts. Honda, Krakasaki, Spluzzuki, Tripump... power, handleing, no paint-shaker are on my check-list. Hey Cap! Long time brother. The IMS is getting closer. Perhaps a Club meeting is in order. And PS to Jimmy, my Outland VVP is almost together! New cables this weekend, and I'll be pedaling along. Thanks Pal.

I don't want a bike with elephant ears that BOILS the fuel in it's tank. The 2009 R & CR should not suffer from the boiling fuel issue that some people have experienced due to the inclusion of a heat shield and better fuel map (map available for 2008s and it does also make a big improvement). Personally I never had the fuel boiling problem... And I don't notice the radiator pods as I'm riding either. |

When Rocket Ron on his 1125r and I were in Ca. and he filled up... fuel came MORE than dripping out of the overflow. Quite a puddle. For some reason sitting on a can of boiling gas gives me cause to pause. I love Eric Buell for pounding his way through and creating his bike. I hate Hardly-Abelson for running Erics ideas through commitee and then building a bike that is not sorted out. I guess I think they should never have releast a bike that has a boiling fuel issue. |

fuel came MORE than dripping out of the overflow. I did have THAT happen to me once and only once when I kept putting gas in above and beyond the fill line in the tank. |

I have'nt abandoned my s3t yet. It has been 100% reliable, just change the oil and tires. But lately I'm getting tired of the paint shaker. I've been eyeballin the Triumph Sprint st and the Moto-Guzzi Norge. I definitely like the underseat triple exhaust of the Triumph. I think in the spring I will go down to British/Italian motors and test them both. |

Were all still here Cap. Same Gang as usuall and just as crazy. This has been a weird year, Deb has been on crutches for a complete year now with a few more months to go. Mike and Kim have been up to there ears with the boy's sports and Cody's racing. Mac Track and PIR. Fun Jimmy's took a world tour. Galen's finnishing School and starting to work. Duanes working but on Strike. Lorain,s got a bike now but Don doesn't. Shooter............Who know's Harv had a mishap at Splash along with another Canadiac. Steve is still great. Huh? Ron Crashed the supertanker beemer but has recovered nicely. Chris and Loni are just fine. Huh? Mr and Mrs George are doing well. Huh? Ok, I'm tired now. Oh, Why Triumph? Power erupts from the very depths of the rev range and never fails to impress or, indeed, almost overwhelm. More power, better brakes. A social misfit that defied definition Hard as nails. The definitive streetfighter. So you see, There just the Sheeit!

Galen, The fuel issue in Cali was pretty obvious. Topped to the max, hot motor, 100 degrees out, park the bike.... get lots of fuel expansion and it comes pouring out of the overflow. The same thing happened the other day in Ideehoe on the Katoom and many moons ago in Leavenworth on the Uly. I have had zero... count them, ZERO, actual issues with the 1125. I am a lucky SOB, but this 1125 has been problem free and a blast to ride. Sorry, but I just hate to see a bike bashed for a problem I have had on almost every bike I have owned. 23,465 motorcycle miles in 2008.... so far, and that includes a full on crash! Woohoo! Cheers all! Ron |

Ron, how many miles on your 1125R now? The 12,400 mile service is quite expensive if you have the dealer do it; I'm doing it myself next time for about 1/7th the cost. |

Oh, the 1125 is my new garage queen. She only has ~4,000 miles on her. I've got a long ways before I have to worry about that 12K service. I see you are definitely pushing the mileage on yours. Ron |

Yeah, I just didn't want to let it go back to the shop after it was fixed, so it went in about 804 miles late for that service. |

Jimmy, I beg to differ on the origin of the powerplant for the 1125s. It's a Canadian engine. Yes that's correct. Rotax is owned by Bombardier which is.....Canadian. I think the technology and components of the 1125s are great. It's the look of the new bikes that I can't get past. The Speed Triple seems to do everything well, is reliable and looks BADASS! Mine's all fixed and I'm going to try to go for a little scoot today. It depends how many clutch pulls I have in my arm. It's been an off year, no doubt. Can't wait to see everybody at the IMS. We were Just talkin' about why people are switching from Buell. I wasn't bashing Buell like Cecil. (sacborg guy...) Just saying why I think I will probably expand my horizons to something from foreign shores. I liked the cute name I made up for the Triumph the best... Tripump. I crack myself up. Harv, didja get out this past wkend? Hope so... it was nice. sooner, Galen |

I can totally understand why a lot of people are moving away from the Buell line.... looks being one of the major reasons. The 1125 is a gawky looking slut. Personally though, I think the 1125 is and was as ready for prime time as any other new bike out there. My view may be tainted because my bike was sorted right off the showroom floor but I'm sure there are many more out there without problems. That being said, I'll probably sell the 1125 next spring sometime as I am beginning to realize that my preferred rides are more in line with this: Or this: Or even this:
Cheers all! |

I got out on Saturday and the Speed 3 RIPS just like I remembered...actually better. Great sound too. I had about a 45 minute ride and my hand was getting pretty weak. Weather was beauty! I even found a few turns. I'd love to get out for one more ride, I hear Saturday is going to be nice and that's the last day of my insurance. Harv |
