Settle down!! Change your fluids, pull your battery if you're worried and dig in for a boring ass winter! Go to some shows (Chicago Feb.6-8) and dream of spring. Have you changed the oil in your car? Same thing but on a smaller scale. Even you owners manual walks you thru it. But a service manual would be better. Good reading over the winter and by spring you'll be helping out everyone else with your new found knowledge!! Enjoy it, don't "STRESS" on it!! |

Have the 1000 mile service done BEFORE you put it away for winter. That way, nice clean fresh fluids will sit in your bike over the winter. Ride to the edge! Dave |

Have you changed the oil in your car? Nope, nor changed a flat, nor even opened the hood of my car ever (can't do anything, why open it ?), except to push the button for the quick lube guy !! I did change the windscreen on my Blast and stressed over it, but Blastin of BCB helped me out with advice there ! Also learned how to take the battery out of the Blast and will attempt to take it out of the XB !! Your never too old to learn and I will, but I don't think anytime soon I'll be much help to anyone with any of MY new found knowledge !! LOL CJ |

CJ The battery tender doesnt spark you can short out the terminals to the charger no spark. It is usually on sale for about 35 dollars . I have seen it at the bike shops for about 80 dollars so it pays to shop. Check this link out http://www.batterytender.com/ There is some info here hows and whys. Good luck. |

Will someone just please send me a copy of Fuell!!!!! Or scan and post pictures!!!!! Hell, someone ship me to Wisconsin so I can winterize all yer bikes - seeing ya got CJ all worked up over nothing. I could sign your magazine for ya too CJ. I am doing a major service on mine because of the miles I put on it this past summer - I gotta make it to Wisconsin and back again next year. If I had not put that many miles on it I'd change the oil, fill the tank with gas, drain the carb and put the battery on a tender. Tenders around here go for about $70.00 Canadian. Tragic Story - A good friend has a 2003 BMW R1200c and went to the BMW reatiler for the battery tender that is specific to BMW Motorcycles. This tender had to come from Germany and took two months to get here. Last week he plugged it into the accessory socket on the bike turned it on and POOF the main wiring harness went up in smoke. The BMW has roadside assistance - a flatbed truck was dispatched less than 30 minutes, picked up the bike and its now undergoing a total wiring harness replacement under its three year warranty. |

A carburator often has a float bowl that holds some small quantity of gas that is siphoned up into the venturi when the engine is running through the jets. There are two ways to drain a carb, run the bike with the fuel petcock turned off until the bike stops running, or remove the float bowl or drain plug if it has one and drain the gas manually. In Wisconsin I don't drain my carbs, in California I always ran them dry, it all depends on your local gas and how long it will be before you run the engine again and where it will be stored at. |

Wait, did I just step into a trap? CJ_XB, I plum forgot and was thinking Blast. Man, got to watch it around here sometimes, all sorts of boobytraps scattered about. I think I'll go drown my embarassment in a cup of coffee now, poured, not stirred, gulped, not sipped, hot, not cold, black, not creamed, and sugar free, for this cup anyways. I have no idea what I'm talking/typing about. |

A fuel injected bike has a small quantity of fuel in the injectors that needs to be cleaned out with a very fine needle and absorbant thread when the bike will be stored for extended periods of time. There, I feel better now. |
