Slimy Crud Run Report from Sunday, 05 October 2003:

1. Great weather. Fall colors are just starting to appear. Not really too different than around here. But I'll be damned if they still don't have flying bugs!

2. Good turnout. Much to see......new, old, custom, exotic and more. And that's just the people, same holds true for motorcycles :-)

3. So many great roads, light (if any) traffic and opportunity to run at whatever pace you like. Too much fun railing through twisty after twisty after twisty......

Well worth the trip. Karl and I rode together. Did anyone else make it?

Hey Windy City...

Check out the S.E.W.E.R. thread in StormFronts.

We are starting to get some interest and have a tentative meeting/ride scheduled for next weekend.

Read the posts, and respond which day would be best for you. Then during the week, jot down your thoughts on the venture and bring them with you to the ride.

Oh yeah, and don't forget to bring a friend regardless of brand. All we ask is that they be good safe riders and be Buell Tolerant since even Buell admits we can't keep up in the straights. LMAO

For your info: I confirmed the reservation on Sun. 10/26 @ 1:30 for brunch. This should give us more time to enjoy the ride, without worrying about losing our reservation (they won't hold it for more than 10 mins)Let's hope the weather holds out!! Hope to see some significant others along for the ride.

The weather reports keep changing daily, but current forecast for Sunday is partly cloudy, 0% precipitation and mid-40 for high. Although cold, at least no rain!

The route includes the most twisties, scenic diversions and fast sweepers I could find. It roughly parallels Route 6 and I-80, so we can always jump on the big roads to make better time, if needed. Route 6 along the canal/river is decent and might be a good return route back to Joliet. I will have some route maps available on Sunday.

Bomber and everyone,

We had a great, albeit, cold ride yesterday to Starved Rock. By 0800, the weather was actually looking pretty good. 40+ degrees and sunny. We figured it was only going to get nicer....WRONG! After we got around Joliet, 'Ol Sol hid and we actually saw some flurries.

The group started out with me and Paul from Lemont. He just happened to see the posting on BWB and decided to check us out. Ray and Nancy stopped by in his van to say he was feeling under the weather. Then they went home. Then Fly came.

Well, we decided to ride around Ray's house, waking up the neighbors until we shamed him into riding with us. It worked! The four of us left around 0830 and proceeded to get cold. That's not true. One of us had a heated suit.

Paul had to leave us at around 1030 because he had to work. Then there were three. We did some exploring, ran into a dead end or two and otherwise had a great ride.

Vicki and Nancy drove in my car and caught up with us just as we were pulling into the Lodge. Brunch was delicious...Thank You Windy City.

There was only one other bike there, a Sportster. We took the Super Slab home. A little colder then we started out, but that's why we're on the BAD WEATHER BIKER board. Wish more could have joined us.

Hope to see everyone on the 6th.

Some news updates,

Buell stunt rider, Craig Jones has set a new world record
distance of 873ft. for a rolling stoppie on his modified
Firebolt XB12R. Jones grabbed the front brake while
riding 130mph. How COOL is that? Sam

Buell Racers Capture Championships Around the World

Milwaukee, Wis. (October 27, 2003) – Privateer Buell roadracers won series championships around the world in 2003 with titles earned in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada.

Adrenalin-Moto’s Jonathan Harrison, of the United Kingdom, won the Auto 66 Sound of Thunder Series aboard a Buell Firebolt XB9R. Harrison won the championship in the final round at Carnaby, U.K. and finished 15 points ahead of second place rider Keith Pringle and his Aprilia RSV Mille-R.

In the U.S., Dave Estok of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., won the Formula USA National Road Race Series Thunderbike championship aboard his Kosco H-D/Buell-Innovative Motorcycle Research Buell Firebolt XB9R, the fourth consecutive F-USA National Thunderbike championship earned by a Buell racer. Estok dominated the series with four wins (Daytona International Speedway, NHIS, Heartland Park and Summit Point) in seven events and Buell racers rounded out four of the top five positions in the championship.

Roadracing World.com endurance racing teammates David Swarts of Lake Elsinore, Calif., and Paul James of Waukesha, Wis., captured the Formula USA National Road Race Series Team Challenge Championship in the GT Lights class. The duo rode a nearly stock Buell Firebolt XB9R to a class win at Mid-America and second place finishes at Virginia International Raceway and Heartland Park to wrap up the championship with two rounds remaining. They also finished on the podium at the Daytona International Speedway season finale.

At the Championship Cup Series 20th Annual Race of Champions held at Daytona International Speedway, Jeff Harding of Corning, NY, (Harding Harley-Davidson) clinched the CCS Lightweight Superbike National Championship and Darren James of North Vancouver, British Columbia, (Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada/Innovative Motorcycle Research) won the CCS Thunderbike National Championship. Both riders won their championships aboard Buell Firebolt XB9R motorcycles.

In addition to his U.S. championship, Darren James (Harley-Davidson of Toronto, Heritage Harley-Davidson/Buell of Edmonton, Deeley’s House of Buell Vancouver) repeated as champion of the Canadian Thunder Series as well. He wrapped up that title before the last race of the season by qualifying on the pole position at Mosport aboard his Buell Lightning X1.

Damn right we should, and I have been. Plan to get out a little more this evening.

Anybody dislike strong crosswinds and gusts as much as I do? That's my only complaint this afternoon. (That and I can't do the mods that DaveS is doing right now.)

Hit Sheridan Road from Evanston to Lake Bluff (and back) last night 9:30 - 11:00pm at "brisk" speeds. Great night for a ride, but I have never seen so many deer along the way. Several mult-point bucks and packs of does running in every direction as I rounded several different corners. I think I ruined their party.....although I must say they ruined mine because I was always worrying about slamming into a deer around the next corner. Made me turn it down a notch or two, which is actually probably a very good thing. Enjoy what is left of the mild weather!

Something to do in the winter.
There is a new indoor go kart track in Buffalo Grove. They have a bar and a resterant. Karts are 200cc honda motored, pretty fast, 2 tracks.
A little pricey, but worth it. The are going to be setting up leagues.
I went last night and had a blast.
check them out at www.chicagoindoorracing.com
It was nice to know I hadn't lost my touch.
Won both races.
We ought to get a crew together and go racing!

Mark,

That go kart web site looks very interesting. Definitely not your typical outdoor kart track located next to a miniature golf or batting cage. The place is elaborate. I like the ability to drop in any time and get on the track within 30 minutes.

$25 per race. This is 25 laps on 600 ft track or 20 laps on 800 ft track. Depending on the slowest driver, a race usually takes around 8-12 minutes to complete. You're right, it is pricey....but I'd be willing to join a league. Do you have a roster?
