They say they're sending me home on the 15th - one week and counting. Hopefully I'll be standing/walking/transitioning well enough to take care of myself when I'm there and the wife's at work (the transitions are the worst, from sitting to standing and back again). Stood again and walked today - thanks everyone for the good thoughts, it's really helping more than you'd guess. |

well, To quote Jose Q....What a day! Yesterday, Paul (Pellis) stepped up in a fine way and helped me get my new purchase home from Ft. Washington HD/B (oops! No longer Buell). Yes, I bought the last 1125r from them at a smoking deal. I thought that I would have to wait until the middle of Aug. to pick it up because of work issues and work travel. Anyhoo, Paul and I are traveling to my house and half way there, the 1125r sputters a couple of times at 45MPH and then settles out. Stopped at a light, looked down at instruments and see blank digital speedo, tach needle on zero, and odometer is not counting miles anymore. Bike seems to be running OK and idling normal. Rode it the rest of the way home (another 20 miles) and put it away with a big gasoline smell coming from engine area. Oh, also on the digital display there is a message about COMM FAILURE. Called and revisited HDW later same day and talked to Phil, the Buell tech. He thinks that maybe there is a loose connection between the instrument cluster and ECM or loose conn. at ECM. Got to take it to a dealer to get in fixed. Ft. Washington (HDW) cannot work on Buells anymore because they are not a dealer for Buell anymore. Great! Thanks again to Paul for the help. Thanks to Jose, Paul, Sebastian, Dan, Lars, and all others who threatened me with bodily harm unless I bought this bike. Damned peer pressure! I think I might nickname the new bike "Lucky 13" because guess where the odometer stopped working.......You guessed it..13 Miles! You can't make this stuff up. The motto for the 1125r should be; "Alway an Adventure" Ratbuell (Joe), Glad to see you last week. We all hope to see you with a rapid recovery and back on a bike very soon! Brian |

Brian - give our guys at Frederick a ring, and see what their schedule looks like. I'm sure we can get it taken care of - loose connection sounds plausible, its just a matter of "where". And I don't know about back on a bike (it's DEFINITELY on the list and something I'm not giving up), but I'll be happy to not have to plan ahead for standing up and walking across a room. LOL. |

Tony, there are no re-test on driving unless you have had it taken away for a while, to the best of my knowledge. When you take a BRC2 or ERC Motorcycle safety class there are key points in the stuff you learn about older people and how age effects your mental and physical skills. One of the reasons why I like teaching MC safety so much is the only time a person comes for driver education is when they are ordered to or they want to ride, I get a chance to re-instate safe driving for a little bit of their time, since the last time they took drivers ed. MSF has a campian going on with a training segamant called Intersection this is geared toward car drivers and other road users to make them aware of motorcyclists. Go to MSF-USA.org I did a breakout session for the instructor update this year, to MC instructors on the TA Intersection. K |

They say they're sending me home on the 15th Great news Joe. Glad to hear up and walking. Driver awareness is severely lacking in that dept. We live in a Me society and until we have a national policy that changes the way driver licenses are issued, nothing will change. The AMA is working this issue from a different direction. See there "Justice for All" policy. http://http://www.amadirectlink.com/justice/index. asp (Message edited by pellis on August 10, 2008) |

Thanks for all the congrats =) I will have to see when I will be around- kids going back to school; things tend to get busy! I appreciate you both (K & C) being willing to ride with such a newbie! The DC VA MD area of this site is so dead compared to the other areas. Is that always the case? Where is everyone? Hey Joe, hope you are still on schedule to go home today- how are you doing? |

Hi Kyri.. No, we're not always so quite around here.. But I think we've just all had a lot going on, I'm just back from an endurance charity event.. and my muscles are telling me I may have over done it a little.. I also killed another set of tires on my 1125R. Oh well.. Stay tuned, I'm sure you'll hear more and more from us local folks as we get a bit more free time and a bit more time for riding and socializing... and what not.. Sooooo.. Stay tuned and be ready to ride sometime soon.. And once again, welcome to the madness and I know you'll enjoy the bike even more as you get to spend a little more time with all us maniacs on two wheels.. |

Hi everyone, no, still not cut loose. They decided to keep me until Weds to make sure my endurance is up for stairs (since I have half a flight to get into my split level home). Either that, or its my sparkling personality that made them want to keep me. Yeah, right. So, Weds is the new "day". Things are going well enough, though - done a flight of 12 steps up and down 2x at a stretch, and walking a couple hundred feet at a time (with a walker) with no issues, so I think household mobility will be a breeze. Can't wait to get home and sleep in my own bed again! |

Joe- even though you really want to go home, it's great that they are keeping you longer if they think it's best for you- too often hospitals send patients home too soon. It's awesome that you are regaining your mobility so quickly. Keep it up and you will be riding again in no time =) Speaking of riding- I just took my bike out for the FIRST time alone- my neighbors are going to love me- rode my 'hood for almost an hour. |

It's the "off-season" for the web forum. You can accurately anticipate when the BadWeb will be busy. It is directly related to the weather; the amount of traffic here is inversely proportional to how nice the weather is for riding! Speaking of which... I'm outta here!

Either that, or its my sparkling personality that made them want to keep me. Are you kidding me? You keep playing with those girl's emotions and you'll never get released! The last time I was there, I thought I'd have to break your legs just to get a word in. So let me know when you get paroled and I'll come over to the house to help you get settled in. (I'll buy the beer this time) But you're paying for the entertainment... } |

I bought outside of the fold... if only Buell could make something in this line of bikes...
This new bike is fun in its own way with a 250 series rear tire. I still love the XB12 bikes. I keep scraping the darn pegs... how funny would it look to lean off the bike and scrap my knee puck, I wonder? |

Cool looking bike for a cruiser! That seat isn't looking much better for the wife than your 9r. Do you still have the 9r ? |

Victory, yes? I really need to remember that other companies still make bikes too. Won't get any crap from me about your not-a-buell. Didn't slam BluXB9 for buying a Triumph either. Go out and get what you want. Slick looking ride BTW. |

The 9R still lives on in the XB12R that I still have. The motor went on the 9R and I used lots of the parts on the 12R. Yeap a Victory, I did order the touring seat for it, which came with a backrest. Time to mount some hard saddlebags and such. Smiley - Do you know anyone local that does welding? I need to fab a bracket for the saddlebags. |

It has been great... folks don't know what a Buell is and just as many think that the Victory is Japanese if they even know what it is also. My wife has had to school some guys at her work that ask what kind of motorcycles we have. It is great! |

My welding contacts are flakey at best. Sometimes you can sweet talk the guys over at the weld shop on base into a "project". I know two guys over there, a guy I was stationed in Germany with and a guy that had a Buell for a while. I'll ask em. |

I went to the VW Buell Rally this past weekend and had a great time. http://http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messa ges/37/328370.html?1219187039 If you didn't go, make sure you do it next year. You couldn't ask for better people or roads. |
