Knot sure if this is the right place to put this so I will put it in a few spots. I am being transfered (for work) from Dirty Jersey to California. Since I am senior of the losers being transfered, I have my choice of cities to work out of. I will be commuting in a company pick-up truck so lane-splitting is not an option. All I do when I'm not working is ride / race my Buells and ride my road bicycle. The cities I get to choose between are San Francisco and Los Angeles. I am basing my decision on distance to racetracks that have trackdays and racing and work commute time. I am searching Roadracing world & motorcycle technology for track riding groups and racing groups. Any info/advise that helps me make my decision would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Jump up a few lines to the Southern Cal section and post there and see if the track guys like Slaughter can fill you in for the south land. I do know we have some great roads, racing, and track days out here. I know some Bueller's from Glendale are regulars up here at Willow Springs. Good luck to you and welcome! |

PM Sent. You are transferring into a hotbed of local activity. The LA Area has Willow Springs, California Speedway. 5 hours away is Las Vegas. For track days you have the above PLUS Spring Mountain (Pahrump) and Buttonwillow (Bakersfield) Much to choose from. Weather up North is iffier. Laguna Seca has terrible noise restrictions and HUGE fines if you bust a black flag - and during the off month, weather can be crappy (coastal conditions). Thunderhill however is probably one of the BEST tracks in the Western US - except Miller. Sears Point/Infineon is great. I think ALL the tracks have regular operators who run track days. |

(from my other posting about living in the San Diego area) California Speedway (Fontana) http://www.fastrackriders.com are the usual track day operators. Awesome facility but a bit pricey (high overhead costs - not Fastrack but the race track itself) Willow Springs (Rosamond) Official site http://www.wsmcracing.com/ Willow Springs Motorcycle Racing discussion site (unofficial) http://www.ducatitech.com/bbs Post up there as a newbie. It's not as hostile as the typical sportbike board. We have a few folks coming out to race once or twice a year. Also, just this year an operator started renting 250cc Ninja for the Ninja spec class for $250 per day - all inclusive (tires and fuel) - heck, your racing license might transfer and if nothing else, the race practice day (Saturday) - all you need is a license to get out and practice. CHEAP track day that way. Check first to make certain your license transfers and you don't have to take new racer school. http://www.RaceBikeRentals.com Many track day operations at Willow that offer track days. WSMC is the only regular racing organization there. Laguna might be too far - about 8 hour drive from Sandy Eggo. It is obscenely expensive and the noise restrictions are oppressive. For the length of that drive, there's Las Vegas, Spring Mountain (Pahrump) and Reno Fernley. Fastrack Riders also do a few days in Vegas. |

I also am moving back home to the LA area (Riverside) after living in Ohio for 11 years - the weather here sucks. I am going to ride at Mid-Ohio June 2 before moving! Thanks guys for the track info - will be at the Femmoto weekend in Vegas this October! |

Sunny normally does Femmoto but with WSMC race AND Inside Pass - that would mean 7 days on track for us in October... and that just gets pricey. Not such a bad area to live down here. We're desert rats though. |
