I'm back from a couple weeks vacation. K, I think we saw you in Parry Sound during the "Thunder Run". Were you riding your S1WL? The racing went as well as could be expected. I placed 8th out of 15 riders, racing with the likes of pro's Linley Clarke, and similarly fast guys. Last weekend was better, I placed sixth. The next round takes place on August 10th at the Fort Erie Racetrack / Slots.

Who's up for a ride this weekend?

caboose, welcome back. hope yer well, and congrats on the fine racing you've been doin

that wasn't me on the S1W? must have been another fine lookin bike i never was able to make it up there, and also couldn't find anyone to ride up with. hopefully we'll ride down to watch you go at Fort Erie. is it on the canadian side?

btw, lornce is organizing a nice ride through northern ontario (aug. 22-25) tobermory/manitulin/sudbury/quebec. would be great if joined as well. lornce can fill you in on the details.

cheers budd!

The race is on the Canadian side. What the organizers do is make a SuperMoto track using the parking lot, part of the horse track, and part of the infield. I'm not a 100% sure where the horsetrack / slots casino is, but I think its pretty close to the border and quite some distance from Pakistan (sorry Lonce).

I'll prolly be in North Bay for the week of the "2003 Moose Dodge". Sounds like one hell of a ride. Lornce, when you get all the details sorted please let me know. I may be able to slip away for part of the trek.

Kahuna, you've got bar end mirrors on your X1 right? What type are they? Where did you get them?

yes, i used to have napoleans on, but hated them. bulky and they vibrate alot. American Sport Bike carries them and they looked this:

napoleans

the best ones in my opinion are the CRG aluminum ones, but are very pricy. over $300. American Sport Bike carries them as well.

CRG

i've discovered through this board that you can get mountain bike mirrors, the best i could find are the Third-EYE brand and they are $12 each! you cant beat that and they work great. i now have them on the X1 and S1.

3rd

i got them from a cycle shop in florida, couldn't fin them in toronto. http://www.bikepartsusa.com/product_info.phtml?p=01-167630&large=1

cheers

Airhead Friends, (and Buellers)

It appears this weekend's ride will happen beginning Sunday morning from Hamilton's West Town restaurant.

Meeting for breakfast at 9:00 at the West Town. Depart for ride at 10:00 with a quick stop at the popular motorcycle gathering point in Cambleville, formerly known as the Ice House, around 10:45 - 11:00. This *could* be a good meeting point if folks would like to join us along the route. A stop in Belfountain at the General Store on the Forks of the Credit Road would allow a similar opportunity an hour or so later 12:00ish (though this begins to risk structure and complication, to which I'm averse).

Weather permitting, a stop at the swimming hole in Hockley Valley is a must do. Lunch in Creemore and a brief tour of the Creemore Springs Brewery ought to add nicely to the trundle. More backroads and perhaps a swim in Walters Fall's mill pond before the ride home through Southern Ontario's beautiful farm country.

I can't wait.

The West Town is easy to find on Locke St. in Hamilton. Exit the 403 at Main St. East and follow Main two lights to Locke St. Right on Locke and a few blocks later you'll see the West Town on your right. Near all the cool bikes.

Cambleville's west of Milton just south of the 401 at the Guelph Line exit. You can't miss the gas station ~ restaurant with dozens of bikes in the lot.

The Forks of the Credit Road heads west off hwy 10 about 15 miles north of Brampton. Belfountain is at it's western end, maybe 5 miles from hwy 10.

Hope to see many of you somewhere along the route.

best,
Lawrence

Hi All,

Thanks for the ride ! Sorry Kahuna, Rog and I got stuck behind traffic as soon as we hit Airport Rd. and never saw the rest of you again ! Stops along the way at lights got interesting towards the end as larger quantities of oil made its' way onto my headers ! I will call T.O. HD/Buell tomorrow and if they have the gaskets in stock will pick them up and get started installing. This is the only likely source of my leak, correct ? Any tips, hints, special tools needed to do the job ? I don't have a shop manual yet. Will check out the knowledge vault for instructions. Want this bike oil tight asap- have big plans for the next few weeks...
Cheers, Brett

Geeeze Foggs, musta bin some kinda traffic jam that held you up. I mean, we never broke the speed limit even once.

OUCH!

Wow, my nose just hit the wall.... :)

99X1, you're a credit to the human heard. Now tell me where you're sister-in-law's staying.

Dr. K, your enthusiasm knows no bounds. Keep on doin it.

Caboose, why don't you just get a uni-cycle? :D

Great day lads, thanks for the ride. Haven't had that much fun since the last time we did it. We should do this more often....

The images of that bike will haunt me forever. Great ride yesterday, when is the next one?

Brett, I've got the shop manual for my X1 if you'd like to flip through it. I re-placed the rocker box gaskets on my Buell at around the 9000km mark. It's real easy to do(on my bike at least)the most difficult things were wiggling the front rocker box though the frame, and scrapping the old paper gasket off. My tips, I carefully used a razor blade and "goof off" to remove the old gasket, and make sure you have a good torque wrench. If I remember correctly the gasket kit, with metal gaskets was $65.

Hi Caboose, thanks for the tips- where did you get your gaskets ? Were these the Cometic ones you mentioned ? Have a part # by any chance ? Just called Toronto HD/No longer Buell. They are out of stock on the rocker box gaskets, and not ordering any more Buell stuff- getting out of Buell entirely ! Are they the same for all bikes so I could get them from Jacox HD(if they have them) ? I know Jacox doesn't carry Buell so they might not know. Looks like I will be doing the internet parts thing for the Buell now as well as my other 2 bikes ! Know any good mail order Buell parts dealers ? So much for getting it back on the road quick ! Cheers, Brett.
