Funny, it didn't hurt and still doesn't... but it went from this
to the one above over night. The only really sucky thing is that I can't but my contacts in and I can't use my glasses cuz the frame hits the cut. (Message edited by buell_nm on December 19, 2007) |

Sounds like an excuse for some recuperation. Just got your email- I'll reply as a PM. Nick- There were indeed some issues with early oil pump gears- same with the tubers. All of the XBs got an upgrade in the 2006 model year and the part fits back to'95. Your new XB is fine, the R could probably use it if you're concerned. You need to lower the motor, relieve the spring pressure on the pushrods, remove the cam cover and cams, then install the new pinion gear. Part Number for the gear is 26391-06- $54.97 |

CJ, I'll be down that way on Friday. I'll give you a call and see if we can meet. Murrea, Nope, they weren't buyin' my I need time off for this act today. Besides, it really doesn't hurt anymore. I just have a little headache. |

"You need to lower the motor, relieve the spring pressure on the pushrods, remove the cam cover and cams, then install the new pinion gear." That's what I was afraid of... This sounds like a big project. Any idea how many hours the shop will charge for dropping a motor and doing the work? At $84/hour, this could turn out to be a really big bill. I will probably just leave it alone since the bike runs great. If the upgrade was easy, I would do it to improve the longevity of the bike... |

I'll ask, but I have a stock 2001 oil pump in my 2000 S3 and with all the power it makes I've had no issues in 40,000 miles. If you were banging it off the rev limiter on the track on a regular basis I'd say install it. There is no job time in the rate book for replacing the pinion gear. The closest is replacing the cams since you have to remove them to get there. Josh says that if you add time for removing the old gear with a puller and installing the new gear it comes to around 7 1/2 hours or $637.00 plus the gear and gaskets. If you're interested, get it here before the end of the year and save 20%. Personally, I'd leave it alone- I've only heard of one street bike having an issue and it was a '99 M2 that the rider beat on continually without mercy. JMHO. |

I figured it would be labor intensive. I bang the rev limiter on a regular basis but I'm just going to leave it alone... |

Yeah, I bang the rev limiter too. Both on the track that day (a whole lot that day), and on the street. I'll just wait for it to break. If Murrae has 40K on his, I'll take my chances that I can go that long, too. |

Hey Nick-Paperwork indicates that your bike has a VIN, was built on 12/19 and should be on its way here. |

Thanks for the info Murrae...John L. sent me an e-mail with the VIN. I'm not sure if it ships late next week or arrives at the dealer late next week. I am definitely "stoked" about this... A Happy New Year indeed - although it was supposed to have been a Christmas present. CJ... yes indeed. I put a deposit down on an 1125r shortly after the Taos Rally. I've been waiting patiently. Anybody interested in a 2003 Triumph Sprint ST or a 2003 Buell XB9R? Well maintained...! (Message edited by Buellnick on December 30, 2007) |

Nick- I saw the Manufacturer's Statement of Origin and the Pre Delivery Inspection paperwork today so the bike can't be far behind. After it arrives it will need to be set up, test ridden and detailed. I would expect it sometime this week- probably in transit with a holiday schedule twist. |

Murrae, Set-up, test ride, detailed... Maybe the shop should do the run-in/break-in and even scrub the tires a bit... There was a magnanimous offer by Josh to perform these services - no extra charge... CJ, You sound serious about the XB9R... Looking for a wife or son bike? I intend to be very reasonable on the price. I want to clear out a bike or two from the "fleet" and the insurance bill... Lets discuss with a PM or phone call. N |

Nick- I may take it for a short spin Let me know about the 9 if CJ isn't interested- I'm thinking about a track bike. |

Murrae, I realize the dealer owns the bike until somebody buys it... let me know what you think. Most importantly, make sure it's absolutely perfect... As for the 9R, I also thought about using it as a track bike but I'm starting to have second thoughts about the size of the "fleet." Besides, this may clear some space for a dual purpose bike... SO MANY DIRT ROADS and nothing to ride on them with.... I gave CJ a price... Not sure what any of you might want to pay. I don't want to give it away. BUELL 1125r: I finally got it... I put about 80 break-in miles on it today. First impressions are generally all positive. Only complaint so far...the FI/Induction system doesn't like rapid throttle movements from idle when cold and even sometimes when warmed up. Steering is precise and intuitive as would be expected from Buell but it goes beyond the XB in this area. Even though the front geometry is the same as an XB, steering is noticeably lighter and quicker. A testament to the overall engineering of the bike. Very nice handling. The motor...146HP and 82FtLbs...nuff said. It is linear and pulls steady (just like they say) but I haven't gone beyond break-in RPMs yet. It doesn't seem to have the near idle grunt of the air cooled engines but when it passes 3000RPMS it pulls very hard. BTW: The overdrive 6th gear gives you about 60MPH at 3800RPM...5th gear gives you 60 at 4200. Brakes... Even more powerful than the XB but the initial onset of brake force is gradual and more controlled. You can feel the front brake better than on an XB. The 1125r feels non-linear and when you really put on the "habeus squeezus" on the lever you start to feel braking power that simply does not exist on the XB. I recommend this brake system as an upgrade to any XB. Generally, it is better than the XB in handling and feel. It is definitely more powerful. I could not go riding for too long today... more riding impressions to follow. I think there is less of a reason to keep my XB at this point... I can't see riding the XB when I have one of these... I hear ya on the brakes. I can't tell you how many times I've wondered if I was squeezing hard enough. I'll be curious to see how you like all that power and sixth gear when the break in is over. I'm obviously jealous! |

The power doesn't feel overwhelming but I haven't turned it on all the way (yet). I can tell there is lots of power to weight. Thankfully the throttle is smoooth and linear. Just like my BMW, I will have to be careful with the power coming out of turns with this bike. This motor can easily spin a rear tire. If any of you are interested in an XB9R, I think I'm going to drop my price expectations... |
