Last weekend I rolled over 12,600 total miles on the new bike. That was kind of a milestone number because the dearly departed M2 was on its way to the shop to have its second set of replacement rocker box gaskets installed when it turned over 12-6. The new bike has had absolutely no troubles so far. No leaking shock, no dead speedo sensor, no electrical gremlins, no busted muffler strap, no nothing. I jab the button, it starts, I ride. Maintenance is pretty much confined to washing, waxing and changing the oil every 6,000 miles. Even the original tires lasted longer than the ones on the M2. Pretty cool, huh!

Spudman to the rescue. He did it. He resurrected Buella. I stopped by his place after work and there was a M2 in his driveway with orange fenders, tail and flyscreen, black tank. I look again and realize it's my Buella. What a pal. He rode it over to Destination where my Magnum 44 Blast had just been dropped off. I changed into bike suit and we both rode to my house with his sons in a chase car. A quick fix of a vacuum leak on the M2 with a Bic pen stuffed in the line and we were flyin, baby. The Blast is the 1st bike I've heard that is louder than my M2 (not including Roadrash S1). The M2 rides as good as before and sounds better with Spud's old intake on it. Still needs one mirror, one turn signal lens, and one flyscreen support, but wow o geez! And I've still got the insurance check in my pocket! Ok, so WWBD? What would Bob do? choose one of the following: 1. Spend the money on a wild paint job for the M2. 2. Buy a 3rd bike before the wife figures it all out. 3. Hide the cash. 4. Return the excess money to the insurance company who will no doubt think twice about raising your rates. My inclination is to go with a combo of 1 and 3. Bob?

Galen, I'll help you hate those bastards! And if you need help shopping for used bike, I can help. Let me know what you're thinking of, and a price range, and I'll start searching. Having been through the whole thing, I can say its nice having a reliable bike. Period. End of story. Next topic. At great personal sacrifice Guy, Will, and I are going to dedicate this week end to riding the Willamette Nat. Forest in search of the perfect road for the FourPlay/Splash event. We will be forcing ourselves to visit hot springs, lusting over and perhaps copulating with numerous nubiles. Drat. Its going to be a horrible week end but someone must do it. We'll probably end up camping around Kitson Hot Springs, near Oakridge, or perhaps over by McKenzie Bridge. Or maybe somewhere else. If any of you perverted sloths are going to be riding in that vicinity this week end let me know, we can exchange cell phone numbers and perhaps overlap our rides. We'll be leaving Ophir OR early tomorow morning, wish us luck. Paul |

Galen, If you're serious about buying a used bike maybe our go kart racing friend Scot still has his Yamaha FZ-1 for sale. Ultra dependable, lots of accessories available, it's hard to go to far wrong with 130rwhp, and there are even a couple of pretty good web sites dedicated to the bike. edited by ray_maines on June 20, 2003 |

I'll vouch for that Ray. Have had my FZ1 for over a year, 22K and no problems, just a hell of a lot of fun! It has to be one of the most versatile bikes ever built.

Shotgun, No givin No money to No insurance Bastards!! Period!! No spending money on a Bike that has the potential to cost you money! (sorry) The KISS method works best here and fancy paint just complicates the deal. I would make the Buell a part time track bike and add to the stable with a Bike of your liking so long as it doesn't cost you an arm and a leg. It has to be dependable, Fast, Handle like an 18 year old (no what I mean?) Expanding horizons where two wheels are concerned is a wonderous thing. It's like gettin some strange stuff without all the mess. Wutayasay Dog, you down wit dat? no what I'm sayin yo? In The Rain Forest, Enthusiastic diversity and true two wheeled harmony can only be reached by expanding ones horizons on two wheels, Bob

So, OK. Galen wont be buying Scot's Fizzy One. It's easier to finance a new bike anyway. edited by ray_maines on June 21, 2003 |

Yo Galen Dog, You needs ta jump in yoe hoopty an buss a move to da dealahship dog! No what I'm sayin dog? Right now Kawasaki will loan to a junky prostitute down on her luck with no job one leg, balding hair and bad breath. Hell, if thats the case you might stand a chance of gettin a new two wheeled hoopty. All kidding aside, right now is the best time to buy a new bike. Sales are not going as well as the manufactures had hoped for and there moving Bikes at unreal low prices and financing deals that have been unheard of in the past. How do I know all this? I'm a freakin geni-us In The Rain Forest, Bob

From the Bad News, Good News Dept.: I just spent two hours changing the front sprocket, adjusting the chain slack, and aligning the rear wheel. The Bad News: I spent two friggin' hours doing it. I don't remember the M2 being this difficult. The Good News: I've got proper chain slack and the rear wheel points in the right direction. Cool! I dropped from a stock 19 tooth countershaft sprocket to a 18 tooth. That's about a 5.5% drop. Lubricating the chain every 500 miles is a bit of a pain but the ability to fine tune the gearing is a big bonus. I'm hoping that by lowering the gearing, the New Bike will now be a little easier to ride at parking lot speeds. Well, that and second gear power wheelies.

Keep that chain lubed up, cause it loses efficiency very fast as it gets worn and dry. Just rubbin it in, I'm actually a little envious of your triumph. Must be nice to have motor. |
