Another Sunday ride to Charlotte tomorrow. The ritual is to go up Hwy 21 early all the way slow through the forest, past all the bicycle riders, park on the side street in Charlotte a couple blocks South of Suntrust main bank, hike up to the noisy Barnes & Noble for a coffee, then hike just before noon down to the Malaysian restaurant for some most excellent food, hike around some more, then pack up and ride back in the shade of the trees. The Uly gets 63mpg on this trip at 60mph in 4th, and with clear mirror vision; amazing. A nice stop is to dirt bike up to the hydroelectric dam. You have to hold the handlebars steady over the larger rocks, esp. when riding two-up. So far not boring, and worth it for the food. |

I know I technically live in Aiken, which is part or CSRA or low country but for what ever reason, every other weekend I end up in Anderson. Beside that point any of you guys ever ride Caesar's head on 276. That ride looks pretty intense, I have a buddy who drives a modified Lexus IS300 and he says that ride is a blast. I was wondering how a Buell would handle it. One of these days I gotta take a trip up there, as well as a trip up to Deals Gap. |

Drfudd, I've done 276 up to Caesar's Head several times. It's an awesome road but traffic tends to be pretty heavy with slow-moving tourists depending on when you hit it. You can make a great loop by starting out at the bottom of the mountain at the intersection of 276 and SC 11. There's a filling station/convenience store nearby that makes a good meeting point. Take 276 up to Caesar's Head and stop at the top of the mountain at the state park. There's an awesome overlook that's easily the best view in SC. Continue on 276 up to Brevard, NC. It's a nice college town with plenty of good places to eat. Take 64 south/west out of Brevard to Rosman, NC. Take 178 south back into SC. 178 is an even better road than 276. There is a narrow bridge with a hard turn at each end about half way down that will scare the crap out of you if you aren't ready for it. At the bottom of the mountain, hang a left on SC 11 to go back to your starting point. Here's a ride report I did a couple of years back: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/681 7/159242.html?1132372050 There are other very good roads around Brevard; it'd be a good place for a Buell gathering sometime, especially with cooler weather approaching. Any of you SC Badwebbers interested in riding to Buelltoberfest at T.W.O. in the north Georgia mountains next month? More info here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/37/ 269970.html?1189779780 I've been to March Badness twice, and it's a great Buell meet. T.W.O. is about 350 miles from Charleston, so many of you will be a lot closer. You can camp at T.W.O., motels are available in nearby Dahlonega, and cabins are available in the area. Anybody interested? |

Hey, Guell- were you riding your M2 in Summerville yesterday about 1:30 PM? I think I saw you at the intersection of Berlin Meyers Parkway and main street (highway 17-A). (I was in a car at the time.) I'm not gonna be able to make it to Buelltoberfest either. A fall SC meet sounds like a great idea. Over the last couple of years, we've had one meet in Columbia and one in Orangeburg. A Buell meet somewhere in the northern/northwestern corner of the state would give us access to some good twisties, or we could have one in the Charleston area so us lowcountry folks don't have to ride so far. Any thoughts? |

Hugh, Im in favor of something close for a change. Although don't know how many we would lose in the process. Might snag a few closer to Savanah having it here. Pro's and con's anyway you look at it....Charlie |

I can meet anywhere, Charleston would be good, I can even do Savannah. The more miles the better. One thing I've noticed is that this engine is better with age, than when it was bran-new, anyone else notice this? I still gotta find out when it is but I'll probably be doing the toys for tots ride in Anderson SC, I think its the week before Thanksgiving. |

I sent an e-mail out to everyone on Buellistic's SC Buellers e-mail list tonight to see if we can drum up some interest in a lowcountry Buell meet. Hopefully we can get some folks to ride down here in the near future. |

"As far as a date, would next weekend (October 13/14) work for any of you? Things are starting to cool down enough so it's really comfortable to ride." A meeting posting received from e-mail today. This would be fine with me, actually anywhere in the State. I'm new, so just exploring this area of the country. |

Looks like we're getting a consensus on Sunday October 14th, which works best for me too. We'll probably meet at the Cracker Barrel in North Charleston at the intersection of I-26 and Ashley Phosphate Road. Matt- sorry I missed you on the e-mail. I'll send you a PM to make sure I have your e-mail address on the list. |

LaFayette, Want to shoot for meeting around 11 AM? I think that's what we did in Orangeburg. That gives us a chance to BS for a while and then get inside and seated before the church crowd hits. I'll try to work up some suggested rides for the afternoon. There are some very scenic roads in the area (but not much in the way of twisties). Francis Marion National Forest (about 30 miles away near Moncks Corner) has an extensive network of well-graded service roads and paved secondary roads if any Uly riders would be interested in hitting that. Actually I haven't really seen anything (as far as roads) in Francis Marion that you couldn't ride on any Buell apart from an XB-R. Now, they do have some designated OHV trails that I would NOT venture onto with anything less than a full-tilt dirt bike. There are actually some nifty paved roads through there with a few decent curves. It's a good place to wander around just enjoying the ride. Here's a map of Francis Marion:
Charleston is just off the map to the south. This map shows only the major paved roads. If you go to Google, you can see the extensive network of forest service roads there, although for some reason, they show the boundaries of the national forest to be MUCH smaller than they actually are. |
