Welcome Patrick, I'm in Greer and own a yellow Firebolt, but it wasn't me on that run. I was up at the "Gap" Saturday. Way too many bikes for my liking. I was stuck behind a lot of Harleys that were fast on the straight away's and slow in the curves, made for a long day. Yeah, sounds like a good time. I’m on the email list, just let me know and I’ll be there. The more Buells the merrier. Gary |

LaFayette, Good to hear your going to get us SC guys together again. Orangeburg is a good choice. I have a race Sat.nite(jun9) at Neese's(Rt.4 outside Orangeburg)if I can recoup from that, I'll be there.Should have a bunch of new faces.Charlie |

LaFayette, I received 3 emails from ya today, I know Gmail has some issues with the "." in my name, apparently removing the "." sends it to the same email address. I have tried this and it works. It'll only take me at most 1.5 hours to get orangeburg. Probably less than that, I think I can make it, depends if I have my grand-daughter or not. Dr.Fudd |

Dr. Fudd, I don't know if you've ridden down to Orangeburg often (or at all) but highway 4 is a nice route. Look around in the town of Springfield (about half way between Aiken and Orangeburg) and you can find a huge Continental Gin Company 2-cylinder diesel engine on display (look for an old fire engine and a shed over the engine). I took this shot 3 or 4 weeks ago:
Come to think of it, highway 4 might be a good route for a group ride on Sunday afternoon. Hugh |

I've ridden from Aiken to Springfield before on my bike, only took 30 minutes. that was ok, not as good as wire road - 391 up to batesburg. I'm hoping Springfield to orangeburg is a pretty good ride. I never noticed that diesel engine on display, I got out of Springfield pretty fast because the single police officer was eying me pretty good. |

Nick, Thanks for the info on 391; I might try it out sometime. 4 is not that great of a road, but there's some pretty countryside alongside and it sure beats the interstate. I had been through Springfield previously 10 or 12 times, but arrived via a different route (39 from Williston) during my last trip and spied the engine. It's pretty cool. Looks like the site was formerly a cotton gin and they demolished everything but the engine. Nice to see somebody thought it was worth putting a shed over. |

Yea, I'm talking about the Hess on 17-A at I-26. Take the 17-A exit towards Moncks Corner, turn left immediately at the first red light. Hess is on the corner. Charlie, it'll be good to see you. John, you've got another Bueller you're bringing? Wow, 4 Buells in one place in Summerville. That'll probably be a record. |

Just to let everyone know, Next weekend is also the 1 year anniversary of Thunder Tower Harley. They are having a bunch of events, bands etc. The wife wants to go Friday because of a tattoo contest. Saturday they are having a frozen T-shirt contest and a parachute drop. & sunday a bike contest. Also it looks very likely I'll be able to make the meet Sunday |

Thundertower might be a good destination (or at least stopping point) for a ride after lunch. It's not far off of 601 headed north; it's about 50 miles from the Cracker Barrel in Orangeburg. |

601 doesn't look like a bad ride either, 601 up to 268, Screaming Eagle Rd (none other). That'll take you right in. According to this little newsletter I got, Sunday, 12-1 Registration for bike show, 12-6 Children's Carnival, 1-3 Music preformed by "Full Throttle", 1:15 Bike judging, & 4-6 music by "Tokyo Joe" I'm looking forward to the ride more so than the dealer events. |

601 is a very picturesque road from a few miles north of Orangeburg until you cross highway 76/378. From there to Lugoff, it is mostly as straight as a freaking arrow (no turns) but it goes up and down like a roller coaster. It's dead straight for ~7 miles before the Screaming Eagle Road turnoff and there's a longer straight stretch after that. Oh yea, my Dad helped build several miles of 601 near St. Mathews during WWII. He was a motor grader operator. |
