We had a fun weekend. We drove up to Fancy Gap VA with the M2 in tow on Friday night. We stayed at my in-law's cabin. There are two cabins on the three acres, the main cabin and the guess cabin. I worked in the yard on Saturday while Kristi and Carlee drove down Winston-Salem to shop.
As I was working on the creek bank on the left of the picture above, it started to rain, so we took an hour break. Cooling off from the work and having a talk with my father-in-law on the porch of the guess cabin I heard Luke screaming at the main cabin. I as I got into view I see he is playing in the rain. He is soaked but having a ball.
I finished with enough time to ride down US-58 passing Lover's Leap and riding down the mountain, turning around riding up, turning around riding down, turning around riding up. Well you get the idea as did the State Trooper I passed twice, luckily both times I was behaving. On Sunday, I got up early and sat on the porch drinking coffee. I heard something hit the creek so I popped up to see what it was. Standing in the yard was a wild turkey. The bird saw me and started running away using the yard as a runway to take flight. That joker was huge, stood 3' tall with twice that as a wingspam. Later Kristi and I left the kids with grand-parents and met some Fancy Gap neighbors, Jerry and Denise. We met up at Meadows of Dan and traded loads. We were at a disadvantage trading with a guy on a Road King when you are on a M2. We had a great day to ride. We rode the BRP taking a couple of detours to ride down the mountain and back up again. With Kristi on board I had to set a comfortable pace, but have to admit, it was a bit hard getting outrun by a big Harley on a mountain road. That said Kristi actually settled into the terrain and really rode great. We were really clipping along and I never noticed her back there after the first sharp curve. We reached our destination, Station's Inn. Mile post 258 BRP and US-18. The place had cold beer, a live band, lots of bikers and cold beer. The four of us had lunch and a great time. I was wearing Buell apparel and riding pants so I fit in great. I love to fly the colors. After lunch and a few beers we loaded up and headed back up the BRP to Fancy Gap. I got the usual confused looks as the M2 talked HD but didn't look the part and FB&D practiced their impressive peg to peg u-turns.
On Sunday, Carlee and I headed out exploring the neighborhood. We rode down US-58 to Meadows of Dan and went north on BRP but only for a few miles. We spent most the day riding roads most bikers don't. We turned off the BRP on VA-799 and headed north to US-221. Then a quick jaunt over to Indian Valley Rd. These roads had no passing zones, constant directional and elevation changes with at least three decreasing radius turns. We then turned onto VA-693 which skirts Claytor Lake. We turned onto VA-100 and headed south toward Hillsville and the cabin. We stopped and got lunch at gas station that served good pizza. We took a quick pit stop on Indian Valley Rd VA-798
Carlee and I got back to the Cabins and Kristi and I have got the bike trailer loading down pat. As I was climbing one ridge heading back, I could see rain on the other. Back at the cabin we had the bike loaded in five minutes flat. It was a fun weekend. (Message edited by Ulywife on May 29, 2007) |

...and FB&D practiced their impressive peg to peg u-turns. i'm blaming that on the Corona... Carlos and Kristi, we had a MOST excellent time with you guys! we were BS'ing there when we first met in Meadows of Dan like we've all known each other for years, and it just got better from there. thanks again for the great camaraderie, and for our new friendship.
