Heres a early early shout out to anyone interested in a after easter ride.

My parents and some friends are coming down from michigan April 7th and are staying at a cottage right on the beach in Folly beach. My father used to do alot of riding in his hayday and when he comes down here him and his buddy plan on renting a couple of Harleys from a HD dealer in Charleston and Us riding from Folly beach to Aiken SC on Monday April 9th. I plan on riding down to the beach April 8th.

I was looking for a good back road from Folly to Aiken. so far a good shot is to take 61 from the island and take that all the way to 78 and into Aiken. Any body know of any good motorcycle roads in the low country?

If any body is interested is joining the more the better. We plan on making a day out of riding and Cooking some Hamburgers and Brats on the grill during lunch in Aiken and then heading back to the beach later that day. If any body knows of a good 4-5 hour route from Augusta area to Folly I'd be interested in exploring the low country.

Nick,

I live in Summerville which is about 20 miles northwest of Charleston. Thanks much for the invite; if I can make it I will.

I don't recommend highway 78; it gets a lot of traffic and there's not much to see. Here's my suggestion for a decent route from Folly Beach to Aiken: Take highway 61 out of Charleston to highway 27 which leads to the small town of Ridgeville. Continue on 27 through Ridgeville to highway 78. Turn left on 78 and go a few miles. Where the road forks, bear right on highway 178. 178 goes to Harleyville which is good for a photo or two, and they sell town signs if you want one. Continue on 178 to Orangeburg. In Orangeburg, pick up highway 4 west. Highway 4 is a nice winding fairly low-traffic road with some nice scenery and a few small towns which are good for rest breaks. Follow highway 4 back over to 78 just east of Aiken. Take 78 to downtown Aiken.

I know several alternate routes down around Charleston but unless you've got a GPS they might be kind of hard to follow.

Hughlysses,

Highway 4 does look pretty good and shouldn't take up much time at all.

By the way my family is highly sailing oriented so yeah, we do have GPS's. although none that can mount to a motorcycle. I'm getting really used to driving my motorcycle it's unbelievable how easily it'll take corners with out flinching. In march I'm going to take the expert MSF course at Aiken Tech.

I've also learned that they lowered the tax rate from 10.5 to 6%. Thank god, I should be getting my tax bill soon. The county office actually called me asking for the phone number of the dealer I bought it from, they said it was so new it wasn't on the tax books.

Oh one last thing I've also learned that they removed the restriction on handle bars, effectively legalizing ape hangers in SC. I wonder how long before we see those all over SC.

Not to highjack the thread, but more of a plug. We should all thank abate of sc for the tax reduction, and new handlebar law. Its good to know someone is looking out for us at the statehouse.

Duely noted Fourfourtwo. Thats where I got the info from, I'm glade they convinced those southern gentlemen at our state capital that some people actually use their motorcycles as their primary mode of transportation rather than a recreational vehicle. I know I do, at least when its not raining.

Gemini, welcome aboard. I live in Summerville which is fairly close to you.

Just wondering if any other SC Buellers are headed to March Badness IV this weekend at T.W.O. in Suches, GA. I will be headed out early Friday morning. Hope to see some of you there.

hey guys and girls. wanted to put this up for those who are a little closer to some. my wife and i had our baby yesterday. young stewart phoenix was born at 2:26 at 6 lbs 8 oz, 20 inches long. mostly healthy. breathing is still a little fast. but the doctors have no worry about it but they will keep him in observation as standard procedure until it normalizes. he will be ready to take over the world once he can see over the handle bars. lol!

Hello,

well its been a fun few months and this bike as not let me down its great.

now I have 1400 miles on it, and am overdue for a 1k service interval. Called the dealership and holycrap! 270 dollars!, or just 70 dollars for a TPS reset, which is what I really need. Or I think I need it, when the bike is warm and I twist the throttle , the bike takes it time getting back down to idle, which is around 1000 rpms.

Anyway, does anyone know of a good place either in colombia or the augusta area to get your TPS reset and it won't cost you 70 bucks. searching for TPS on this forum suggests that some dealerships (of course none in SC) will do it for as little as 30 dollars.

OR does anyone have the software and cable needed to reset it yourself? or know a good place to buy one for less than 200 dollars?

Thanks for any help!

Thanks Buellistic,

I'm definatly considering doing that, it would always be good to have that on hand, and I'll also be able to help out other Buellers in my area.

In the meantime I start doing some of the 1k service work myself and I just posted a step by step how to change your oil.

Charlie,

Sorry I haven't checked this thread lately. I'm only up to about 2600 miles on the Uly now, but I'm really enjoying it. I rode it to March Badness IV; it's much better for long distance rides than the S3 and was awesome in the twisties. I still have the S3 but it's for sale and listed in the classifieds. Two different BadWebbers wrote me asking about it right after I listed it but I never heard another word from them.

Soooo, if anyone's in the market for a decent S3 for a good price, drop me a line.

Hugh,
Glad to hear the Uly is doing well. I'm sure the S2 is feeling a bit rejected.LOL You might want to take her out for old memories every once in a while.
You haven't had any of the PINGING problems that a lot of Uly guys are reporting? A friend of mine in Va. had the top end of his redone by Buell because of pinging and now it's back. Buell Rep. coming in for a look see. That 12 motor has been plagued with detonation problems since the Thunder Storm heads came out,but not as bad as the Uly. Maybe it's EPA induced. Just seems like it ought to be an easy fix(timing)but they seem to be trying everything but that..........Charlie
PS That little 9 motor is looking better everyday.

Charlie,

I took the S3 out for a ride last weekend; it was the first time I'd been on it since December. It is definitely a "rawer" motorcycle than the Uly. The S3 (with race ECM, your air filter, and Drummer exhaust) seems a little stronger as the RPMs climb, but the Uly is SO much smoother riding and rolls into curves so much easier. The vibration isolation is also a lot better.

I haven't had any pinging problems whatsoever with my Uly. I did have to get the transmission output shaft seal replaced under warranty last weekend, but that's the only problem I've had at all (and even that was a very minor leak).

It is awfully odd that some of these Ulys seem to be plagued with spark knock. You'd think they'd have conclusively diagnosed the problem by now and come up with a universal/permanent fix. Hopefully the 07's are immune.

Hugh,
Glad you are liking the Uly, it's always more fun to ride them than work on them. The S2 is like my M2, I love riding it, but it seems like there is always something that needs attention. With the XBR I just ride(knock on wood) and don't have to stop for little repairs. The M2 is more temper mental in traffic and traffic is something this place has too much of.LOL
I have been making a lot of trips to Summerville lately. I have a friend that owns a machine shop(SMC Racing) out on 17A. He helps me with machined parts and I help him turn wrenches on his bikes. Were both a couple of old guys, just having fun.....Charlie

Drfudd, i don't think you have an tps problem. it sounds like your idle is too high. drop it just a little and go ride. spec is 1050. side note, any one in charleston or anyone who wants to make the short drive, i just bought a vdsts and might be able to help out.

Gemini,

I'm not sure if my idle RPM is set right. When the bike is warmed up, running idle, the rpm dial stays at 1000 rpm, of course I don't think I could tell the difference between 1000 & 1050. Every few seconds it jumps to about 1200 for a 1/2 a second then drops back down to 1k.

Does that sound like its running right?

Thanks for the Info

Maybe I can meet with some of you guys/girls and ride in the future.. I saw the posts about the riders in Charelston area.. If I'm ever down there I will try to find some of you all.. Also I've got DL if anyone needs to use it in my area.. Take care and ride safe
