My XB screen is only useful if I put my feet on the rear pegs and lay across the tank( not the most comfortable position for any amount of time).As for the cost as the saying goes" I'm going to Disney World".To join the Iron butt club you just have to do the 1000 miles in a 24 hour period , so we could get a stop in somewhere.Anyway we look at it , it should be an adventure. | ||

Hey guys, I went to Homecoming last year and I'm planning on going this year. As for your travel times, I'm curious. Have you guys done that kind of miles before? I did it in the truck, Brewerton NY to Hals in New Berlin WI in 12.5 hours, 3 quick stops doing 80-85 through Ohio and Indiana. I hit Chicago around 4PM to stop and go construction. We'll have to talk more. | ||

No , I have never ridden more than 300 miles at once but have driven Ny to Fl non-stop over ten times. I do have a F150 and a 14' dual axle 10 ton trailer if we need to go that way. Riding sounds like a lot more fun though. I am willing to go with the majority on what ever is decided. | ||

Yeah, i'm with presky... never ridden that far but i think it would be a good time. There is another thread where people recommend taking a ferry across to WI and bypassing chicago. It actually looks like it would be faster to cut across Canada into Michigan then ferry over. | ||

What's the deal getting in and out of Canada? I know you now need a passport to fly in and out, but I'm not sure about land travel.If we think this is going to be a done deal let me know and I'll book a hotel for us once we all decide on the dates. I'd bet they fill up pretty quick. | ||

However, with the Buell people, their individualism led them to blow off host hotels and scheduled gatherings, come late, leave early and so on. She said that Eric told her she needed a "Cat-herder's license!" I love that line  It should find it's way to a T-Shirt. I hope the weather improves soon. I spoke with TrapperJohn today and said he was in if would could do the 5th-8th.He also suggested a camp site( I can do anything as long as there is running plumbing). Trapper has been on long rides like this before. What does everyone think? | ||

you guys still up? I've been looking at threads for the lake express and think you may have a great plan to ride through Canada and hit the ferry. Leave crazy early to make the 4:45 ferry, you have to be there at 4. Get off in Milwaukee around 6:15 about a half hour from the plant. Stay near New Berlin the first night, then up near Elkhart Friday and Sat. I made it a 4 day trip last year. I would also be into riding it. Steve | ||

Silenc3r, I loved that line too. Peggie was saying what a PITA it was to get people to all do the same thing...go figure! I think the Cat-herrder comment was Eric's way of telling her tough beans! After hanging around him at the races, I couldn't get over what a regular guy he is. That's what makes it hilarious, I can picture Eric laying it on her! In light of what's happened to BRAG, it makes me wonder what she knew then. All this thinking about the trip last year and the ferry and getting together with a few of you has got me stoked! The only hindrance i see to camping is the fact that we would have to bring all of our gear, etc. which wouldn't be so bad if one person decided to drive and we could throw the gear with them. Otherwise, if we did hit some rain on the way there and then had to camp in the rain it would make for some unhappy campers! Plus the bikes would get muddy depending on the site. What would you guys think of booking the hotel and then waiting to see what the weather is going to be like? Most hotels let you cancel by 4pm the night of your stay. Just my $.02 Matt | ||

I haven't been a camper in a long time, and I second Carpedium's comments on gear space and the rain. I'll ride in the rain, but want somewhere to get dried out when I arrive. Personally I was thinking about trying to get a room near East Troy on Thurs night and one at vicvil.com for Fri and Sat, and here's why: Last year I didn't know about BadWeb. I trucked the bike and picked a place to call basecamp near Milwaukee, so I'd be closer to home on Sunday morning. However everybody who rode stayed near the factory Thursday night, then up near the track on Friday and Saturday. Friday when the open-house was over, I asked what everybody was doing. Some guys, said "party at Appleton's". I had never heard of Appleton's, but it was something to do. Then I remember thinking about 80 miles into the trip "we're going where for a free hot dog?" Of course I found Appleton's was the best stocked and friendliest Buell dealer I had ever been to. They fed us, had tunes and let me ride a Uly. When it was over, the regulars had rooms nearby and I had to ride all the back to Milwaukee. Here's the best part. Talking to Eric on Saturday at the track, and he's like Man, so much going on, get to get our gear up to Elkhart because my wife booked "the band" to play at the tiki bar after the race! So I hooked up with some folks and went to VicVil. We had a beer and a burger while Eric Buell and the Thunderbolts played at the tiki bar! I told the squids at the next table, "Hey, I bet the president of your motorcycle company can't sing and play guitar..well neither can ours! You never now what will happen this year, as Buell says there will be more details to come. I don't believe the tiki bar thing was advertised, but I really wished I had a room there! That's what I've got in mind. | ||

Hotel is fine with me if that's the way everyone would like to go.If we get a rough count on how many people are going and where everyone wants to stay I'll book some rooms on my card. Let me know. On a completely different note my bike is going to the airbrushers Tuesday and I can't decide between two different themes the 1st is the Buell pegasus logo with flames coming out of the bars . It would be done in a ghost red to match the cherry bomb wheels with a little yellow to bring out flame tips.The other idea is a skeleton reaching out with a knife cutting into a corner of road( corner carvers )with would be done in a ghost pearl. Both designs will be cleared in a matte finish to keep the original look of frame(I don't thing it would look good gloss). Anyone have an opinion or idea? | ||

Carpedium81 and I discussed Homecoming on the phone tonight. Last I checked, we had Fpresky, Trapper, Carp and me? Any others? I think we should get it together and nail down some reservations, for hotel and especially for the ferry. The other outstanding issue is 4 day trip..blowing off the Sunday race, or come home Monday and make it five? Trap? did you recommend 4? Are you ok with hotels? | ||

I agree with Ricochet's idea of staying around the plant the first night then up near the track the rest. Victorian Village looks like it would break down to like $60 per person per night (worst case... high weekend rate) With a 2 room suite with 2 queens per room. I guess it all depends what you guys think about bunking with each other to save $$. Vicvill seems like the place to be. I wouldn't at all be opposed to staying where its most convenient, it beats having a long ride back to home base and having to count the beers beforehand. As far as timing, i strongly agree with Ricochet and Presky about nailing this stuff down now. its already looking hard to find availability at some of these places. For the first night near Milwaukee there are some starwood properties that i could likely use some points on. In terms of the Sunday race, i am cool with whatever you guys want to do. I'm not in a huge rush to come back, but if nothing else we can play it by ear and see what the weather says when the time comes. The Trip: (adventure, as they call it) All in all its about 8 hours from Rochester to Muskegon thru Canada. About 2.5 hours on the boat and 45 mins from Milwaukee to East Troy. (11 hours total) The other way, would be to go under the great lakes up through chacagoland and to East Troy. (11.5 hours total) This does not take into account Chicago traffic that starts at 3:00 and lasts till 7:00. Throughout the forums people have stated that the ferry is the way to go, even with the added cost. I dont know, but idling in traffic after a 10 hour ride and dealing with stop and go seems less than tempting to me. As far as the route, it looks like its about $184 round trip for the ferry from Muskegon to Milwaukee including taking your bike and you. The afternoon run leaves at 4:45 (ET) which means that you syracusers would have to leave at the crack of dawn to meet up with me to head out. Carp, Canada sounds like the way to go .I'll probably grab a room in your area the night before we leave ,I'd hate for something to go wrong in the morning and miss the trip. Bunking up sounds good to me .If you let me know exactly what area we want to stay in I can check and see if there are any "RCI" properties near by and use some of my points also and usually get e better rate. | ||

From what i understand, i think we want to stay around east troy - or even milwaukee the first night, then up by Elkhart Lake the rest of the trip. I need to confirm that there are 2 beds to a suite. I will call today. | ||

I just called Victorian Village and she said that she was booked for that week, then i mentioned that we were coming out for buell homecoming. Apparantly Buell reserved 27 rooms for the event at vicvill first come first served. She paused a moment and pulled up an email from buell requesting the reservations... I guess so that people vacationing from the fourth of july would not take all the rooms for the event. Apparently I was the first to call regarding the event and she agreed to 'hold' two rooms till i called her back. She took down my name and number. The lady said that the rooms had a fridge, coffee, etc. and had 2 double beds. The special rate is 152 + tax for buell riders only. I spoke with JeriLynn at Victorian Village. She ended up reading the email from buell, and i guess they are going to publish the room availability in their 'upcoming publication' and on the website soon. That rate is if we stayed from friday through monday. | ||

Carp, that sounds good to me, let me know if you need some cash or if you want to do deposit I'll do payment there(or I can do deposit on my card). Whatever works best for you is fine with me.I was afraid most places won't let us book single nights during the event period.I'm not much of a drinker anymore(it cuts into money for my toys) so I'm not really concerned about the commute between room and track. And if someone gets that bad we can find a secure place for bike and I'll ride them back two-up. I don't that will happen though must Buellers I know are very responsible riders. | ||

I think down by milwaukee its not as effected by the races and the single night thing. Since we will be staying near the race (if we decide to stay till monday) we will have 3 nights up there. I'm not a huge drinker myself either, but it would be nice to be near the action and hang out with other buellers. If i get an OK from steve (ricochet) and Trap... i will see what exactly they need to reserve the rooms. (probably 1 night deposit) | ||

I'm checking with RCI also, they have a 5 star resort in Elkhart Lake with suites up to sleeping 8 with privacy . Also full kitchens and laundry. I can usually get some pretty good rates. Sharing a room is cool. I'd like to stay at Vicvill because that is where Erik played, and now that you tell me Buell secretly put rooms on hold...I'd say it's on! I can put one on my card. |
