No drastic measures required K, there'll be other rides. Hope to see you tomorrow.

:)

RA Ride for Cancer

Today's poker run to benefit Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation was a complete success. Not certain on total numbers, but it seemed there may have been as many as 70 bikes at one point. Quite a crowd. Lot's of fun and some great folks. Even ran into the previous owner of my '98 S3, stylin on his Road King custom trike. Talk about a paradigm shift! Don't normally participate in this sort of event, (averse to group "parade" riding) but the card stops were so much fun it was worth the "train ride".

Hats off to Dennis and Dianne of RA Clothing Store 411 Roncessvales Ave in Toronto for a great event and a staggering array of generous poker prizes. Some beautiful high quality leather apparel was very generously donated by Dennis and Dianne. My two pair netted me a tres cool Indian Motorcycle Co. shirt. :) A great ending to a fun day!

So what's the plan for the up-coming Mosport trackday? I'll be heading up Friday evening, prolly' leave Burlington around 5:00. Traveling together would be nice. Everyone staying in the same area of the campgounds / pits even better. Team Buell against those evil Italian bikes!!! I'm taking my Jayco pop-up trailer, it sleeps six very comfortably. You guys are welcome to join me. Lornce, is there still a spot available on your bike trailer for my X1? If not, no big deal, I'll just throw it in the back of my pick-up.

Hey Caboose,

Sounds good, we should all camp together.... Communal beer cooler etc... :) Would be glad to have your bike on the trailer.... *but*... a buddy *may* (if US customs clears it in time) have a new to him Ducati 900SS that'll need bringin'.... And I'd sorta like to maybe bring the Suzuki 7/11 along if it's still around (you can run anything on the Monday, even Japanese iron... even silly, overpowered streetfighters :))... So, not to be un-neighbourly, but if ya got room on yer truck.... The more bikes we can get there the better.... I'm happy to help load and unload... Have good expanded metal ramp etc.... My phone number's (905)529-1351 and John's is (519)654-9883 we should keep in touch to hammer out details.... I'm gonna try and borrow a paddock awning tent top thingie from another buddy... Team Buell needs to look the part... :)

Later budd,
Lornce

Where does everyone camp at the DOCC Mosport rally. Close to the pits?

I've got a "paddock awning tent top thingie", if you can get another thats great. The more shelter from the elements the better.

Sturgis has got a good deal on Michelin Pilot "race" tires. Nice and sticky, not good in the rain though. I'll be waiting for the long-term forcast before buying any. On the other hand, I still haven't scrubbed my new BT-010's all the way to the edges yet. They work pretty good on the track as long as its not to hot out.

Get there early enough and you can camp wherever you like. Not too too close to the pits is likely best. The awning'd be well appreciated for sure, especially if it gets hot.

What's Sturgess's deal on the Michelin's? I'd be interested if the price was good enough. A buddy picked up a set of 010's from Parker Brothers yesterday for $320, we'll put them on his 900SS when he gets it cleared through customs....

Tires not scrubbed to the edges yet?!? Whadda ya bin doin on that thing, fetchin groceries? :)

What time is your crew heading up? A buddy of mine is coming up with me. He rides but won't be participating. He'll be our camera / video man. Camping together will be cool, not that we'll need to attract any more attention to ourselves??!!

$425 for the Michelins.

I haven't put many kms on this spring, cold weather and dirty roads have left me with many cob-webs to dust off!

What time we're leaving? Hell I don't know, that's nearly two weeks away. I'm not even sure what time I'll go into work tomorrow...

Camera man, eh? Has he got a video rig that'll attach to a bike? I can get a clamp mount that'll hold a video camera to a handlebar... or footpeg... or????

Cob webs? I figured the Supermotard woulda cleared those up. :)

I think we need to have a little friendly S1 ~ X1 lap time competition at Mosport. $1/tenth of a second.... Whadda ya think? :)

Ahhh....the life of a single guy. Must be nice eh Lornce? Lemme know when you nail things down.

Tvrtko (Turko) will be using my Camera's. A Minolta SLR with 300mm zoom and a Cannon super 8 video recorder. Bring the mount if you can. It would be awesome to show a lap from a riders point of view.

Just spooned on some street rubber onto the CRF. Now I need to find a parking lot to practice "hacking" (the art of sliding into the corner) Know of any?

$1/tenth eh? At first I thought I'd take you up on that wager. But then I remebered you saying something about a larger rear pully on your S1. I know my X1 will be running out of steam on the back straight. You almost got me you old dog you!!!

A larger rear pulley on the S1 would have me running out of steam even earlier than your own X1. But.... it's got a 61t rear cog.... just like yer X1. :)

Not sure about finding a lot where they'll like a bike slidin around with a crazed loon at the bars.... How about tryin to get in on track days at Mosport's Rider Development Course? It's pretty tight, must lend itself well to Supermotard type riding. Check their sched, it's pretty reasonable track time.

I'll keep you posted re Mosport as the weekend approaches. This orta be fun.

best,
Lornce

Oops...brain fart, meant to say smaller rear pully.

As far as the track sched (Sat&Sun), there are five classes, each running for 15min. The fun starts at 9:00am and ends at 5:00? with an hour break for lunch. Saturday evening there is a dinner that Lornce can tell you more about. Plates are limited though. Beer and bonfire to follow dinner.

Kahuna,

You should come on out to Mosport.... and participate. Riding on the track is safer than anything you'll ever do on public roads. I'm serious. There's a class for every level of skill, speed and comfort. Don't sweat it, you'd have a blast and enjoy your bike more than you ever could on the street. Did my first race track weekend with the Ducati club in '89 and my only regret is that I didn't begin doing them earlier.

Was it Barry Altman you met in Toronto? He used to be the club prez, think he still is. Nice guy who really loves his bikes and riding.

Here's a pic received last night from an Airhead buddy in Toronto.... Says it's a spy photo taken along the New York Thruway.... Brett hasn't been the same since he sampled my own S3T on an Airhead club ride last fall.... :)

brett's new bike

Let's all join in welcoming Brett to Buelling.

:) :) :) :) :)

Errrmmn, okay, so the image file won't fit. It was a pic of a nice respectable Volvo wagon pulling a trailer loaded with a loverly green '98 S3T Thunderbolt.... Coming from PA to it's new home in Toronto.

Welcome to Buelling Brett!

lornce,

oh trust me i know! i'm trying very hard to retire early so that i could race on a full time basis. i've done shannonville a few times (in the fastest class), but i tend to beat the crap out of the bikes on the track, and i really want my X1 to live for a long time! its my pride and joy!! the 9S is still not broken in, and that has all to do with the fact that the X1 is WAY more fun! i never thought i'd say that. especially that i just did with my V&H slip-on in favor of a buell full race. WOW! totally different bike. totally awesome!

i'm not sure what the guys name was, but he had a BIG grin on his face! very nice bike. he did mention that this was the first year that they are not full, and that i should defintely sign-up. we'll see...

cheers,
K

way to go Brett!!!

and i'm not surprised. just this past weekend, a friend of a friend came riding with us, and at the end of the day, he's going on and on about my X1 and that he really wants one! and this is not the first time its happened! buells, IMHO, are the most underestimated bikes. people look down on them until they see one in the flesh, and then its a totally different story. asides from the fact the you can ride with anyone. harley guys get a huge kick out of the sportster on steroids, and the jap daddies are always curious!

welcome Brett!

K

You nailed it Kahuna.

The guys who ride their Harleys seem to dig the Buells while the guys who ride their Japanese sport iron.... learn respect.

These really are hugely entertaining motorcycles.

Recently hung a Vance & Hines can on the S3T.... Still need to rejet to suit, but an observable increase in stonk is already apparent.... Man it's LOUD though.... To my taste, anyway.... I'm gonna tone it down, pack the can full with rockwool insulation.... It's my "touring" bike fer cryin out loud. :)

Welcome to the dark side Brett.

If you think your V&H is loud, wait till you hear my D&D. The performance is great, but its way to loud, really have to troll around in the residential area's. Got to admit though, it sounds cool.
