Here's the info on the 1-14 ride: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19 1753 I've got no desire to ride the interstate to get there so I'll probably trailer. It sounds like a nice time. There's a girl I've been teaching to ride who also might be interested in going. If she does go it would be a very relaxing ride for me as she is cautious. I know that area pretty well and if the weather is good it would be worth the trip for me. |

Carlos - 16 was a blast! The great thing was that 52 north of Wytheville is the same sort of road as 16. So you get a big circle with that kind of twisties on both sides. I found a couple more roads of note. 621, is a well paved but unpainted road about 1 1/2 lanes wide that runs over a mountain and connects 42 to 52. It is an absolute blast, but the turns are sharper than on 16, so you (I) can't run it as fast. Then there is 623, which is the road I went up to see. The end on 42, which is where I started, lookes like a driveway. It's a single lane hard packed gravel road, with 2 tracks on a clay base. It goes over a mountain, so it's switchbacks with a cliff on one side. There was a little bit of snow and ice thrown in to make it exciting. The view is stunning. It goes on like this for several miles. Then you get to the town of Burke Garden and your back on pavement. Then you have several miles of very twisty road ahead of you. Since the end is unpaved, these twisties are essentially a dead end as far as most traffic is concerned. In fact, I was struck yesterday by how little traffic was on any road. Except when I was in Tazewell, there were almost no cars. I passed 3 bikes. I'd love to go back up there. |

I'm in for a ride there after the mid-February SandBlast Rally. I would prefer to go up one day, play around, stay the night, play some more, and come back the next day. (Message edited by rubberdown on January 04, 2007) |

I finally figured out how to make google maps display the route I actually took:
99.9 Miles. I told you it was 100 miles of Deals Gap. So I was off by 528 feet. Rubberdown, sounds like a plan. |

Hey all, I work in Marion, VA (live in Abingdon)...and you're right 16 is a thrill ride. there are several great roads in this area that rival the dragon...16 as you talked about, 58 from Damascus to White Top, and of course 421 from Shady Valley to Mountain City,TN...any Sunday any of you C3'ers want to head up this way let me know I would love to ride with some other Buellers...and Jim i am the guy you all ran into at the Shady Valley country store a few months back, that has the black firebolt. and Rubberdown i saw you there and at the Dragon at about 1am that night. |

Hi Brad, Happy New year to you and yours. I'll never forget you pulling up on the 'Bolt in the middle of the night. I was just heading to my tent to turn in when I heard a Buell pull in. I yelled back down to the others "that's a Buell" and just had to head back down to meet you. I look forward to riding with you in VA. Mike. |

Okay, when the time comes let me know. I found US-52 north of Wytheville trying to stay off the center of the tire coming back from Cincinnati last year on the M2. I was trying to stay off the center because I was showing cord and it was Memorial Day weekend and I could not find a new tire. The black top was so new the day I went, they had not yet painted the lines on it. Great ride. I found 16 looking for US52 coming back from Indiana after helping Dave move, but missed a turn. On the little map I had 16 looked straight, boy what a great surprised. Brad - I hope we can all get together and ride. Jim & Mike are top notch riding partners. hey fellas...good to talk to you guys again. I will be making the trip to MBIV and doing the Friday Cherohola-Dragon loop as well, so hope to ride with as many C3ers as possible then. any Sunday before then that you guys are going ridin, let me know when and where and I can try to join you. and even though i ride a firebolt I am by no means a serious knee dragger so don't think you will slow we down, in fact it may be me that does the slowing unless its a road i am used to like 421. Mike, I was actually thinking that night that if anyone was tent camping i was ruining it for them, and at any moment i would be adding deer antlers as a fairing ornament. |

What beautiful day. I left the house late because the ground was still wet early and I thought it was going to rain again. As the afternoon came and turned into a warm beautiful day, I decided I had to ride. So leaving the house at 2:45pm, I head south to Old Maple Hill road. I had a lot of fun getting there though. I took all the fun roads including Vine Swamp Rd. that Webe's BG lost it. You know that intersection still has sand in it. I entered the first curve too fast. When I realized where I was I started trail breaking as I crossed the bridge. Good thing too because I hit the sand and the bike bobbled. I ran wide on purpose because I did not want to push on the bar. As I came out of the second curve a young woman was getting the mail out of her mail box on the outside of the curve. So I had to re-direct so I did not scare her. I had a blast pushing it for the rest of that road. I don't know if I had the wind to my back or what, but the bike was ready to go! Top end was very strong today. After a fuel stop in Richlands I rode down Richland 258 to where the Jacksonville Airport is and turned down those backroads to 53. I turned down Haws Run Road to Maple Hill. I get to Maple Hill and have the sun in my face on the way down so I ride easy on the way down. I u-turn at the other end and have alot of fun on the way back. Hanging off the bike in the tightest curves and impressed how good the Continental Tires are. They really instill confidence. After I get to the other end its time to get home before it gets dark and cold. I can not believe I was out riding in January in my Joe Rocket mesh coat, a t-shirt, and shorts under my First Gear over pants. |

It was a beautiful day. Had a bit of excitment when my buddy Pete lost it on an incredible road I found. He slid 105', trashed the bike, but never lost his sense of humor. We got the bike ridable. He's fine and ready to fix it and hit it again. I had the street wheels on the bike for the first time in a couple a thousand miles. Sweet! I can't wait to take it to a track day sometime after the Rally Moto on 2-17. Rally On! |

M2nc... glad you had fun today. Also very glad you didn't lose it in that curve. As I look in the building at the Uly and the Blast... I'm struck by how much smaller my tires are than the Uly's... Now I really think the nickname ya'll gave my bike fits.... Minnie We picked up the Uly from Goldsboro today and Webe got a short ride in before it got dark. Later, Webe's BG |

Glad Pete is OK and has a sense of humor! I think sometimes thats an essential part of owning a bike. Better to laugh than to cry! Are you all planning to ride or trailer to Suches? Kristi |

It's alive! It's alive! he, he, he. Got the M2 started today. I took out the spark plugs and realized that the 6R12 were out of the bike and replaced with 10R12. I replaced them with new 6R12 and also removed both spark plug wires. The back cylinder wire is chaffed badly. The wire was bare in various places but the dealership did not have one and they are now obsolete. This I believe was the root of all the problems. I tried taping it last time but never removed the cable completely to inspect I believe after looking the routing over that the cable was not routed incorrectly the last time the wire was put on by the previous owner. While I was inspecting things I started a list of things I want to replace to get the bike back to riding condition. A fuel line, three gaskets, two catch cans and that should do it. It was good to hear the gal running again. |

Congrats Carlos, both on the bike and for marrying well. the dealership did not have one and they are now obsolete. Court was just saying in another thread that you can still order any part Buell has ever sold. So you should be able to order your wire. |

I was going to ask Daves to see what he can do. Hey the local dealer did pretty good. They had the coil, the spark plugs, the front plug wire, the enrichener cable and the oil line in stock. Okay all that stuff was cross-over Harley Sportser parts but they also had two Stow-n-go bags in stock for Ulys. One big advantage to the tubers is that they used a lot more Harley parts so they are easy to find. |

I am glad to hear Pete was able to get up and brush it off. How is he doing now? Usually the soreness does not kick in until a couple days later. I hope the Warrior will be ready for MBIV. |

M2, Pete's fine. I saw him yesterday. He's a blacksmith and is as tough as an anvil. We worked on his bike and he had some spares so now he just needs a tank, some paint, and he needs to fab a piece for his lower left controls. |
